I've been blog hopping tonight and was thrilled to see so many Dottie and George cards appearing. I noticed a few people on here have started using them too so I thought it would be a good idea to start a Dottie and George thread so that I can see all your creations in one place.
Bring em on girls!

Here are a few of mine.

I am very tempted to get some of these, but I have no idea whether I should be getting the white or the transparent, I know on the site it says what the difference is but I still don't actually get what the difference is LOL

Also what can I colour them with? will watercolour pencils work, or prisma with sansador? I am thinking the outline won't be waterproof?

sorry so many questions, they are very cute images.

Hi Darcy,
Whichever type you get, they will print out onto plain or patterned papers. The idea with the transparent ones is that you can also play about with them on your computer - adding backgrounds and other effects before printing out.

As for colouring in, some people have trouble with the ink 'bleeding' when colouring printed images whereas others don't. Personally I have found that if you use good quality paper and give your ink plenty of time to dry before colouring it's fine to use brush markers or paint. As for Prisma colours and Sansador, I sure hope so because I've just bought some especially to use with George and Dottie and as you'll know, THEY AIN'T CHEEP!. I can't wait for them to arrive.

I hope this helps.

P.S If you do have any trouble with the ink bleeding there is a fixative you can buy and hairspray is supposed to work to.

:lol:he he, nor am I, I tried to make Dottie more quirky than cute, I hope it worked. I think she's quite cute but she definately has a mischevous edge to her, especially when she has her hands on her hips in defiance:lol:

Some people think I based her on myself, what do you think?

OMG, I am in awe, I had no idea it was you who designed the fabulous Dottie & George its great to be able to put a face to the designer! I just hope I do your creations justice. I only have Dottie at Home and Sporting George at the mo but I definately intend to increase my collection.

Here are my 2 creations so far

Forgive me for being simple but I don't see the point in having transparent images... Printers don't have white ink anyway so the white bits would always end up "transparent" when you print them. Is there any other reason for this?

Some graphics programmes dont always colour in right up to the edge if there's already a colour there.

Hi Kevin, if you look at my bathtime Dottie card in the post above yours I was able to resize and then print Dottie on to my patterned paper to give me a different background, which I believe if I had not got the transparent set I would not have been able to acheive (I may be wrong though but that was my understanding which is why I went for them also so that I could colour and fill with texture too) HTH

kevie192
27-04-2008, 10:58 AM
But that's what I mean... It would have printed the same if you had the white image. The printer doesn't contain white ink so it would not have printed anything but the outline - the same as the transparent set. And you can add effects to the white ones too.

Maybe I'm missing something :D

Just wondered, thats all... Perhaps it's "cleaner" with the transparent background but I can't see how :S

Louly
27-04-2008, 12:48 PM
I totally agree Kevin, that's what I thought at first too. But like Caroline said, the idea about patterned paper is for when you add a patterned bckground layer on the computer before you print. Does that make more sense? If you layered the jpeg image onto a patterned background on the computer you'd have a white square blocking it. Of course if your quite good on painting programmes you can still get around that even if you purchase the jpeg image.

kevie192
27-04-2008, 12:59 PM
Ohhhh, I see now! What I was thinking is that it would be easy to just delete the white or fill it with the pattern. I guess sometimes I forget that not everyone is as au fait with the graphics programs as us techies are!!!

Fab! I'll look forward to seeing them. I've been working all weekend on the Dottie at work collection, I'm just adding the finishing touches so watch this space. I'm quite excited about it, we have teacher and Lollipop Lady Dottie for those end of term thank yous there are eight other occupations too, including a vet and a nurse.

craftymama
27-04-2008, 07:52 PM
OOOH Louly now I'm getting all excited, great idea for teacher cards and the vet one will be fantastic as DD so wants to be a vet and she loves George and Dottie, she has pinched my sakura pens and is on a colouring in marathon!

I wonder if anyone can help me! I purchased SportsGeorge and DottieatHome this morning and when I print them out I'm losing the edges - so poor Knitting Dotty only had half a cat and no ties on her hammock etc. Am I doing something wrong??? I opened the file and pressed "print" and just OK'd everything but even on the print previews the edges are missing!! Getting VERY frustrated as I can't seem to rectify it! Hopefully someone will know what I'm doing wrong! Thank you!

craftymama
28-04-2008, 04:09 PM
In your print program does it have a box marked crop to fit and then a tick in the box, if it does you need untick the box then it should print fully HTH

Jane Toomer
28-04-2008, 04:15 PM
Thanks Jac - will give that a go now!

Jane Toomer
28-04-2008, 04:20 PM
That worked - thank you - thought it would be something easy like that - duh!!!

Louly
28-04-2008, 05:00 PM
Glad you got sorted:love:
For future use you might find it easier to try it thew way I do it.
Open a new Microsoft word document and insert it as a picture from your file. That way it's easy to resize it and to put more than one on a page.
Be sure to put your finished creations on here so we can have a look.:D

Jane Toomer
28-04-2008, 07:00 PM
Well I was trying to do it that way too but once the microsoft document was opened and I was "inserting", I couldn't find the files - goodness knows why cos they are definitely there!! lol I might try saving one of the pics in a different way and then I might be able to do it this way too! Thanks for all your help

This one is based around an idea I saw in simply cards & papercraft mag using cd's as gifts but mine isn't removable! liked the idea though and then along came Dottie too!:P TFL

(ps have downloaded the fabulous Dottie at work too, I am becoming seriously addicted to these!:lol: just need more hours in my day!)

Louly
01-05-2008, 06:08 PM
Cor that's fab! How did you get that effect on the CD?

craftymama
01-05-2008, 06:20 PM
Thanks Louly. The effect is made with alcohol inks and blending solution just dabbed all over the cd til I was happy with the depth of it. Used colour called currant, I only have 3! currant, slate(grey) and meadow(green) still very new to them, but I do like the effect.

Louly
01-05-2008, 09:21 PM
Thanks Jac:D It's a great effect, I wonder if there's anything else you can do with cds, I'll have to experiment.

jac love your DD card.

Now questions from me before I download these and do it all wrong  When you buy and download them can you use them again and again. Ie there is no amount of times you can/cant print them? Can you transfer them onto a cd for your own use, just incase your computer goes cuput? Can you 'paint' these in paint? And finally can you sell your cards you make using these images (I dont want to sell them against copyright)?

I am desperate to buy these now, mum has already asked for three images coloured and framed :P

craftymama
02-05-2008, 10:36 AM
Morning all

Natasha I'm not sure about the answers to all your questions but you can use them am many times as you want and you can resize them too, I have put them onto a disc for safety so I hope that is ok, I'd be devestated if pc crashed and I lost em all, I can colour them in my graphics prog which is PSE5 but I dont know about paint and I'm not sure about selling the cards as I dont make mine to sell. HTH and I'm sure someone else will be able to fill in the rest and correct me if I'm wrong!

And here is my latest Dottie

~natasha~
02-05-2008, 11:05 AM
Thanks Jac. I think I may buy the set that I know my mum wants pics of and then get some more once I know the answers to my q's :)

02-05-2008, 05:19 PM
Natasha it's really fab! Chick Dottie is one of my faves. I know I PMd you but I'll answer your questions here for anyone else who's interested. You can sell cards using the images as long as it's on a fairly small scale not mass produced. Once you've downloaded the images they're there on your compter forever unless you delete them of course, so you can use them until you're sick of the sight of them! It is a good idea to have a back up on a CD though, very sensible.

Nellyphant, I'm in the middle of creating the George at work collection, it'll probably be finished this weekend. After that I'm starting on some completely different images for a bit of variation. Don't panic though there'll be many more Dottie and Georges to come, dare I mention Christmas Dotties?

~natasha~
02-05-2008, 05:35 PM

Can I ask though whats the best colouring pencils on the market (thats not prismas). I have some naff old pencils from when I was at school but they leave scratcy marks on the cards. I would like to treat myself to some new pencils on payday... anyone have any suggestions. Loving george at work... I must download some george soon

Tiger Dottie looks grrrrreat! That ribbon works really well and I love your wording.
I have Prismas and love them, I know you said not prismas but I got mine on the auction site and it only cost me £30 for 72 pencils that's brand new and including shipping from America! I know £30 sounds like a lot for pencils but when you look at the price of the same thing over here it's less than half the price! There are a lot of colours I don't use though, I'd probably have been happy with the next set down.

Natasha I don't know if I've already asked you but do you have a blog?

Well I love blogs and visiting them I do each day. I can blog on my website but I dont really want to as I would like to put my blog in my signature. I think I will take the plunge.

Every month we (from dottie's World) look through all the blogs that we know to have Dotties or Georges on and give one lucky person an exclusive image (it will eventually be part of a collection but until then the winner (and me of course) will be the only people to have it.

I re downloaded them and they are still the same. I open them the same way as I open my dottie but they just fill the page black. You can see a very faint outline of where george should be but nothing else. It opens the same in paint and gimp too

I have just recived them as jpeg's but they still wont work  yet dottie dress up and dottie at home does  I am worried if I download anymore they will be the same. I think I will just have to use the two sets I have forever. :(

Sounds like they're opening as a negative of the image - black where it should be white - no idea why though sorry  What do they show up like when you're just viewing the thumbnails in the folder?
If they're black on the thumbnails it's something wrong with the file - if they're fine in the thumbnail preview it's PSP.

hi crafty princess, they were black on the thumbnail too. Thankfully Karen (the owner of charmed crafts, where Dottie lives) has sorted it and sent me two differnet files to try and the last one worked  I am so happy now. I just hope we dont have to go through this all with all the files... I love Dottie too much to give her up so soon.... now off to play with my new george's

CraftyPrincess

Really like the card Natasha those butterflies look adorable with Dottie.

Here is my latest I've done it for the challenge on Dotties World but I dont have a blog (yet - am thinking about it!) the pp is a wild animal print from a freebie set from ScrapbookScrapbook. The bit that I used to paper piece I printed of index card size so the pattern was a bit smaller then printed it again at a5 size. Used silver glitter card and put it through BS using CB embossing folder and added a bit of ribbon which was a freebie with a mag ages ago. TFL

Natasha, Jac and Jo I love all your cards, thank you for taking part in the challenge. Jac I'm hoping I can talk you into setting up a blog, unfortunately we don't have a seperate gallery yet to show cards any other way. I'll have to look into that I think.
I've been busy working on the new collection today, I'm getting all excited because it's so different, a change is as good as a rest ay?

Well while I've been sat here tonight blog hopping and trying to decide I suddenly realised that DD starts her year 6 SATS tomorrow and I hadnt done a card, so have been playing in PSE 5 and this is what I managed to put together with the addition of some ribbon and buttons. I used Dottie the Vet as that is what DD wants to be! TFL

Thanks Debs:wub: Leo I love it to bits, you're just so blummin clever girl.

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!!!

The new collection should be coming to your screens some time this evening and it's full of.........CATS!!!!!
They might not be what you'd be expecting as they're not in the same style as Dottie and George. I fancied a change and have gone for the American Arts and Crafts kind of style. Some of the cats are designed to 'interact' with the other elements of your card such as matts and circular labels. Here's a sneaky peek of one using cats that sit on your main card section with their tails draping down the sides......

kevie192
13-05-2008, 10:33 PM
OH... MY... GOD!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE THEM! You've just made me so so excited :D

Dottie and George are not my thing but these definitely are!

When I get my hands on some cash I'll be sure to buy them... Probably have to wait till the end of the month though :( You are so so talented :D

I hope this means there are loads more animals coming from you!

I knew they were going to be the cutest :D I make cards for a cats charity, Lou will it be OK if I send some of these cards to them, they sell them in a shop but all the proceeds go to the kit cats that need rehoming.

Nellyphant
14-05-2008, 01:49 PM
Now if they were dogs I'd definitely buy them! Sorry Louly, but I probably won't buy them for the reason that they are cats! Don't get me wrong I love all animals, but I have plenty of cat images already.

Keep up the fantastic work Louly; I wish I could do what you do.

HOLD ON - just been and had a proper look at them and I think I've changed my mind! I love the cat hanging off the table! My friend has a cat that is always getting himself into situations like that!

Ohhhhh yes! They are all a part of Dottie's little world:love:
I forgot to tell everyone.....Kevin was my knight in shining armour the other day and showed me how to change the template code for Dottie's world so that it wouldn't be opaque. Bless his little cotton socks:wub: Thanks again Kevin.

Leo that's absolutely fine. People are allowed to sell them on a small scale (not mass produced) and what a great cause too.

Nellyphant, you really made me chuckle, what are you like! I'll have to have a think about doing dogs, and birds too but then I've got the Christmas and Halloween Dottie's to do too....argh!!!!! I wish my boss would let me go part time at work, I'm seriously running out of hours in my day.

Having a blog is probably the very best thing if you want to start taking part in challenges but it's not essential.
Some people like to do challenges just for themselves because it challenges them and sometimes they don't even show the results to people.
I think I speak for most people though when I say we like to be able to show our creations to the world and bask in the glory of their compliments.
So if you would like to take part please do - the more the merrier. Pop your finished card in this thread or in your gallery and I'll come and have a nosey.

If you do decide to get a blog (it's easy and it's free) let me know because then I'll link you up to the Dottie's World blog and all the DW designers will be able to view your cards too. you'll also be in with a chance of winning an exclusive image in 'Blogging customer of the month' or be featured on 'Customer Thursday' have I talked you into it yet?

So if you have a blog with Charmed Downloads on, (and I know about you) IT COULD BE YOU! So be sure to drop by Dottie's World at 7pm to see if you've won the exclusive image.

I want to see how many I can get on the blog at once! he he.

They are amazing. But could we have a set like they were before? Just the black & white Dottie and George ones for £5? I wouldn't use all the coloured ones and backgrounds and I can't afford to spend an extra £8.50 on things I know I won't use. :( Please, please, please?

Hi pink ribbons, You do get them plain too, the coloured ones are thrown in free as an extra. They are more expensive beacuse you get so many images ie everything you see, on one download :)

I know there are more images in this set. But I wouldn't use those. And I wouldn't call any of them free when they cost another £8.50!

I know some of you will be happy to pay the extra, but I can't :(

I'm just hoping they'll do a set of just the black and white Dottie and Georges as well, like the first sets were, the Dottie and George B&W images for £5. :)

In normal sets you get 10 images + the same 10 with sentiment underneath. In the christmas set you get 15 images, 5 backgrounds, 10 additions and 5 sets of sentiments. You then get all those in colour too ~ these are the free ones. If you were paying for only 10 images they would cost you £15 without the colour one and without the sentiment sheets... they are selling for £13.50... I dont see that as a bad price. I wont be buying them till payday anyways

Why dont you ask karen and louly if they will sell them in smaller bundles ie just the images or just the additions etc?

Giavanna

I just succumed . Louly if you are reading this I think they are fab and loads there.

13.50 for so many images seems good value to me. If you were to buy each image as a stamp it would cost a fortune and the sentiments will come in handy too.

THANKS Louly, I love 'em

I'm here:rolleyes:

Glad you like them ladies.
There are actually 17 main images in the set and then there are also all the backgrounds, additions and sentiments (which in actual man hours took far longer to make than the main images ) so in reality you are getting the coloured images as a bonus. We have no plans to split the set as we think it's very good value as it is.
Even if it were just the main images in a set like the others they couldn't be sold for £5 like the other sets which only have 10 images as apposed to the 17 main images in this set.

Anyhow let me show you what I've just made. It uses a main image, a background and a sentiment from the pack. I used the coloured images for this one as I didn't have time for colouring today.

I just went on the thread that's announced it a minute ago and said I'll run the Dottie/George social group . Don't know if that's all I have to do. It's Friday and my brain is now frazzled.
