As there are so many Cricut owners on UKS, it's been suggested that we have a dedicated thread.
Having a dedicated forum for the time being isn't possible because of sponsorship. I understand from past post that MaryAnne is trying to sort out something, but in the meantime we'll have a non point scoring Team thread.
There's no limit as to who and how many of you can join in, so come on over and share all your tips, inspire others and just have a chat.
Having a thread that is dedicated to the Cricut use, will hopefully, eliminate so many other individual threads, often repeating questions that have already been asked and can get quite confusing.
PLEASE REMEMBER not to post links to any non sponsor site regarding the purchase or price of either the Machine itself or Cartridges. PM people by all means but the links will be removed from the thread.
Please feel free to carry on......

Tracy how did you make the scalloped square mat that you have on the baby girl card with the elelphant on it?
I used SYI, with the card frame feature, it's the last two frames, the last one cut at 6" and the one before that cut at 5", then i used the middle bit from the 6" one on top, does that make sense?

well girls here's the card I made for that commission last week, most of it was done on Arnie but I did have to resort to some peel offs to start using them up to be honest.... who needs peel offs when you've got an Arnie, Eddie or whatever we call our beloved machines... hope the pictures make sense!!
by the way, the last picture is the lid of the box and he proposed to her by the Eiffle Tower so that explains why its there!!

Hi Tracy,
Thank you, it took hours and far too much work has gone into it, just like my other projects!! no idea what to charge him either!! I asked angie.. the girl I made the Lily card and book for and she said about a fiver!! what do you think, I must admit by the time I'd finished I thought it might be a bit to 'Bling' cos the background of the front is almost like a mirri board finish! but if they want ordinary they can get that at the shops!!
Ally - look at Crafts U Love for embossing folders, when I looked on eb*y earlier they were about £5.00 each, I think they're £3.79 at CUL.
Look forward to seeing the pirate card. :)
CG - great card. I'm def going to have a play with my Pooh cart soon.
Sandie - that card is lovely, I think its a bargain at £5.00!
tracygough
21-04-2008, 06:50 PM
Sandie, I think a fiver sounds about right, you'd never get anything like that in the shops.

Hi Sam,
Thankx for thinking its ok, I think people assume if its handmade it should be cheap for some reason!! in future I've decided if anyone wants me to make a card for them I'll ask up front how much they want to spend cos at the moment its costing me a fortune! at least if they only want to spend a couple of quid I will TRY and stop myself going barmy!!:lol:
IKWYM, problem is we enjoy doing it, so end up barely covering our costs. People don't realise how much even decent card can cost, do they?
tracygough
21-04-2008, 06:54 PM
There's a non sponsor that sells embossing folders for £3.49 with free postage. (Google cuttlebug, it's the second one down in the list).

Actually Sam I think they're very aware of what cards cost but assume that we can do it for a fraction of the cost for some reason.... and I agree with you we do it cos we really love doing it!! and I'm learning all the time so its good really, but as I say in future if I'm asked to do something like this again I will definitely ask them how much they want to spend, at least then we're all happy, I don't want to make a living out of it (I couldn't anyway!!) but its nice if you can save what you get to buy some urgently needed stash!!! or a new cart!! at this rate I'll never get one :(

I was expecting something more interesting too, made me laugh how they're going on about how fabulous the machine is, when we all know they have Expressions! How can they charge £250 for it!! And why do people pay it???!! I can't believe the carts were selling out at £69 each. If only people knew they could get 2 for that. It really annoys me (as you can guess).

Barmybird - yes I really did make 23 cards - some not so well as others though, but most are ok and useable and some are quite lovely. I love your wedding card by the way and I think £5-er is a bargain.
Betsy - love your Pooh card too.
SanG & Tracy will have a look at the people you recommended, think I may have to go shopping tonight  the free little stamp die and embossing folders you get with it really isnt that useful.
Oh and the chappie that got it for me had to phon 5 stores to track one down - what a sweetheart eh?

What a sweetie! I hope you're going to make him a thank you card! :)

Evening ladies!
You lot have been chatting away again, its been lovely and quiet the last week!:lol:
Had bit of a crazy day - spent over an hour and a half at the hospital - to go in for 5 minutes!!! So that pretty much wasted my day!
Love all the cards people have made (sorry - cant remember whose was whose!) This is a thank you card I made, and the bracelet I did yesterday!
Wow, what a great bracelet - do you sell them?
I love the bunny card, looks like a nice quick one. :) Is he from Doodlecharms? I haven't got that but have been looking at it for a while now.....
Right, I'm going to log off soon, for some reason Daren is really fed up and I think he needs a nice cuddle on the sofa!

Well, my expression is still in the box. My friend came to visit this afternoon, then my son and DiL came over. Tomorrow l'll have to play catch up so l bet l won't use it then either.
I have had a look in the box and taken the CDS out so far.
Could you ladies help me please. Do l connect the Expression to the PC before downloading the CDS or is it better to do it independently?. Or should l have a play around with the expression before l think of the CDS?. l always like to run before l can walk....Dot

B)Just popped on to keep up to date!
Been busy tonight completing 120 party invites (why do I volunteer for these things?). :ph34r:Really simple design though, just some embossing, deckle cut edge with a gold inkpad run around. Very repetitive and boring after a while. Still, I've finished now so can give then to my friend tomorrow.
Your Pooh card is lovely CB. I always just cut a base cut in black. That way I have the internal cut lines to follow when placing the detailed cuts. IYKWIM
Liz - I love your maze card - amazing:rolleyes:
Emmyloo - your bracelet is gorgeous. Do you follow a pattern. I bought a load of beads and jewellery making stuff and have never got around to using it.:( Maybe I should bring it out from the back of the cupboard and have a go.
I need an early night. Off to bed now. On my own as DH is away on a course for a week (for once it's not the golf course):P

IMPORTANT: Install the Cricut Design Studio BEFORE connecting your Cricut to your computer. This ensures the proper drives are installed.

See you tomorrow.

Try it on a scrap. You might not see it posted on here, but it would add to the dimension of the card.
I use the message ones to cut out a small message (only use scraps, not a whole sheet), so I can match it to the card.

Don't do that!!!! Have already been on there this morning ummmming and ahhhhing about buying mats and Home Accents. Not sure about the postage, its difficult to work out and i'm worried about customs. Do have a few birthday pennies left though.
I'll see what i have, when i feel up to venturing into the craft room.
Why you not going to the craft room? I'm lucky the PC is in the conservatory next to my craft stuff. Problem is, I come out to craft and end up chatting on here.
How's L? Being good? Just put G to bed for a bit as he was up again last night and wouldn't go to sleep until about 10.30, he kept having bad dreams.

Sam, i can't remember where i got my big mats. I think it might have been cuttinge*g*crafts.
Anyone seen anything of Gwyneth, i've not seen her on here for days? I do worry when peeps go awol.
I remember Gwyneth saying in another forum that we chat on that her sister was coming down from Wales in April and that she was taking her home and staying for a while with her. It might be this week.
I have finally finished Hook, Peter Pan and the ship, still to make the Lost Boys and of course make a card out of them!!

Thanks for the lovely comments.
To make Peter Pan I used the caveboy's clothes and trimmed off a bit. Also put the pirate tshirt under it and clipped a bit to make the collar. His shoes are from the elf with the pom-pom cut off, the belt is from the indian headpiece as is the feather in his hat. The hat was trimmed down from another hat.
Hook's coat is from the three wise men, his hat is the girl's cowboy one with the top trimmed down. The frill on his shirt is fromn two of the pirate's waist scarves with the belt bit cut off. You get the dagger, moustache and hook with the pirate boy. Hook's hair is the mermaid's!!! and his sword is the knights....oh and both of them are wearing the prince's tights
The Lost Boys should be easy enough as there are "dressing up" outfits there. I am hoping that Zooballoo has a crocodile too.
His birthday card is going to have to be very long

cupcake ATC swap? what do you do in that? what does ATC stand 4? Its in the Swaps Forum. ATCs are 2.5x3.5inches and they are mini works of art (bit like mini cards) and you swap them and build up a collection. Go and have a look. I've done 2 swaps so far and wasn't sure I was going to do it again but saw the cupcakes!

Hi all
Lyn - that was quite a splurge!
Just popping in to keep up. Off to school soon to do the kids workshop with them.
My kids are off tomorrow and the weather forecast looks pants. Mum has been having a clearout and has passed her Kenwood big mixer onto me so I am planning a cake making sess with them. They love it but the mess is something else!!!
They have been going on about having an indoor 'campout' for ages. So I've bought two cheapo tents from town and are planning a camp for tonight. I'll take some pics and use my new Camping cart. There is method in my madness!
Hope your ear isn't too bad Tracy. Ear infections can be miserable.
Bought some Basic Grey papers which were on sale in our local shop. Man in the shop was one rude b*****d though so they've had my custom for one last time. Papers were a bargain though.
Right I'm off to school, catch you later.
Hi Lyn, I remember your name! :D
Wow, lucky you 10 carts!!!! Hope you're going to show us what you're making?
See you soon.
Have fun at school Barbara and with the camping. Look forward to seeing pics/LO. :)

Lin - Daren is the same, he always asks people for a deal, in fact his nickname is Do a Deal Daren!!
Hi Sandie, I sometimes have that problem with my Mum, but only coz she's so forgetful! She's babysits for us quite often though so I don't mind too much. One of my friends sends me a cheque as soon as she gets the cards I've made. :)
A good tip is to put the price on the back of the wrapper, then there is no doubt that they owe you money! They wouldn't just pick a card up in Clintons and walk out would they???!!

Tracy - hope the AB kick in soon. Try a heat pad next to your ear. You may get some pain relief from it. Sending my best wishes.

My nephew calls me barbar. I was insulted at first as baba is an elephant! Now I just think it's cute and quite like it.
You can buy them from the Ellison website. They were having a sale. Not sure if it's still on though.

Linda - it isn't a folder as such. It is a large die called 'flower, daisies'

I'd better go and start to cook, otherwise there will be a rebellion on the 'campsite'. Tents are up and both of them are making them comfy.
Um, no thanks. :D Although the houses might be a bit cheaper where you are, bit far for Daren to get to his garage!
Does anyone want a 3 year old boy??? Grrrrrr........... (tired from nursery and playing up as Daddy just rang to say he'll be late home and won't see him tonight. Guess who is having an early night!).

i have been laying on a hot water bottle Barbara, it usually helps, ( i've suffered with ear infections since i was a child), anyway my ear 'bubbled', which had me yelling out in pain, then something popped and it's now weeping, so i have some relief at the mo. I have to keep an eye on it for blood though, as the last two ear infections i've had, i've ended up with a perforated ear drum.
Now stop all this chat, because it's gonna take me ages to catch up.

If you put 'envelope' in the keywords search on the DS you'll get a list of envelopes on different carts. HTH

Hi Sam,
Thankx for thinking its ok, I think people assume if its handmade it should be cheap for some reason!! in future I've decided if anyone wants me to make a card for them I'll ask up front how much they want to spend cos at the moment its costing me a fortune! at least if they only want to spend a couple of quid I will TRY and stop myself going barmy!!:lol:
hello to all
the cards that we all make are not hand-made they are hand-crafted - and a fiver is what i charge for commissions but to be honest i probably put two to three hours work in on most and can't possibly justify charging for that time. But then I do do it because I love the challenge - just sometimes the spec is very hard to do.
- two of my most difficult commissions were - a 50th birthday card for a sister in law (not mine) and the only thing she could give me to work on was the fact that she drank cider
- some time and much thought later I could still not get past the first thing that had come into my mind when 'cider' was mentioned - the flippin' wurzels - for those of you out there under 35 don't even read any further - my card is on my blog for those of you who are curious - 1976 was a fab year - red hot summer and happy memories (apart from the wurzels) - anyone who is 50 this year will have been 18 in 1976 and able to legally drink alchohol for the first time - i also made an acrylic coaster to go with the card ... and to bore you further the other was a card for a lady in her late 60's who lives down south and fancied Bobby Robson - who must be 80 if he is a day and Barbara was the ladies name - I'll tak you down the toon' is also on the blog
just had a commission for a lady who's husband is of Greek origin - does anyone know what Happy Birthday is in Greek???
my blog is at www.mustgoonastashdiet.webs.com
