And no - Cheryl it's not my DH - he only reads the thread, knows it would be more than his life's worth to actually post!!!
If MY hubby understood the 'net and forums it would be worth more than HIS life to even READ the thread
thanks the helmet is a bit crazy isnt it!! not sure quite that much protection in needed just yet!!!
The sooner she gets used to it, the more she's likely to accept it later though. Mine already rode bikes before the hype about helmets -- and although I bought them one each they hardly ever wore them. And I was well aware that if I refused to unlock the shed so they could get their bikes out until the hemets were on, as soon as they were round the corner the helmets came off and were slung over the handlebars
Finally explained the dangers in pretty graphic detail, left a load of literature around, and stopped nagging them about wearing them -- wasn't much else I could do apart from get rid of the bikes. And they'd still have ridden friends bikes if I'd done that

Mine didn't like wearing cycle helmets till a lad DS1s age was killed after he rode into the side of a stationary van. Road safety officers visited the schools in the are and told the kids that he would probably still be alive if he had been wearing a helmet. Saying that I have had to take DS2 to A&E with an egg sized lump on his head after coming off his bike when not wearing it!!

im off in a bit, but do i count a DLO as 1 sad challange or 2??? ive done a card and a DLO tonight fo feeling really chuffed with myself!! *polishes halo*
Hmmm.... good question! Think I'd only claim 1, as it's only one "piece of work" -- even though I'd get double points for my original team
I'm about to turn in too.... need to try and get my body clock back on track quickly so I can get up for work on Monday ;)

Evening all! Like Cheryl - I braved the wilds of Ikea - but at 6pm, rather than am - I would never have gotten DH out of bed at that time anyway! We only got a few bits and bobs and it was manic, but at least now I have two lots of drawers for my Expedit unit - they are to try and sort out my stamps. I shall have to put them together after my crop tomorrow. I didn't buy what Cheryl did, but our bill still came to £46.50! We could have happily spent a lot more - especially on garden furniture - but don't have it, so that removes the decision making, doesn't it?
I watched "Castaway" again - still enjoyed it but am soooo tired - am off to bed. Have a great Sunday! :)
fiona2277
20-04-2008, 12:36 AM
thanks Cheryl that was what i was thinking too, off to bed when i have finished putting things away so see you in the mornxx
I looked at the Expedit on Thursday night - specifically went looking for it before I looked at other options, as so many UKS members seem to love it and the largest 185x185cm unit (5x5 sections) would fit on my main 'crafting' wall. However, I'd have to find somewhere else in the room to install my laptop (so I have a surface I can get my legs under) which was a problem.
I also looked at the size of a cubby hole once a cupboard unit was inserted (didn't like the opaque boxes that will slot in, as a mess would still be semi on show) and the internal dimensions on the drawers. If I already had a unit I think I would probably have been down for some of the inserts, but as I was starting with a blank canvas I quickly came to conclusion I'd get very little of my stash into it --- certainly not much more than I'll get into the kitchen units I have planned for that wall, and I'm leaving a desk space in the run as well.
I can see why it's popular when people have to keep their stash in a living or dining room though :)

I have plans for reading and scrapping today so hoping that I managed to achieve both.

Hope everyone is ok x
Thankyou Cheryl, I knew you'd know the answer :D
So, here goes, my mini book in B & W, showcasing some of my flower photos! Part II :D The cover and the first pages are back on page 1 of this thread.

Suky - your book is just GORGEOUS! Lovely photos and that poem says it all really!
that poem says it all really!
It does doesn't it :D Mind you, since I got a lovely 'Flylady' feather duster for Christmas I do a lot more than I used to 'cos it's so quick and easy. When my kids were small they knew if they 'wrote' in the dust then they had to clean it :D
I love photographing flowers, well they stand still and don't moan, and have so many pictures I will have to make an album just for them.

im about to start my mountain of ironing and await the influx of family visiting us as usual. Im beginning to think if i stand ironing then they wont think its OK to sit drinking endless cups of tea and eating everything in sight until about 6-7 o'clock tonight until they finally realise im NOT cooking dinner AGAIN for about 12!!!
As much as i love my family its getting to be too much EVERY weekend. I hope they dont take it too personally when i tell them they are NOT visiting next weekend (although DH may invade their houses with the kids in search of something to do!!)
OK slightly wry hunoured rant over!!

I must say, I've got loads of flower photos as well - was thinking of doing a 'flower album' but 12x12 seems a bit big. Might think about doing 6x6 if I can find an album/page protectors.
I've just about finished my cc planner - just have to print out some of the classes and timetable and then I can put it all together.

Hi everyone!!!
Joan, congrats on winning the LO prize, well deserved
Helen, hi nyn, hope work isnt getting in the way too much of your scrapping.....I knew there was a reason I only work part-time ;) Not that I get much done during the week :(
Suky, beautiful book, love the b & w pp.
Cheryl, well done on your Ikea purchases!!!! When I get a craft room I would love the ikea units ( fat chance in the next 10 years though:wacko:) Have threatened DD1 that I am going to start using her room for some of my craft stuff, seems a shame to waste the space when she's at uni
Fae, hope you have lots of fun when your parents visit, are they coming far???
Looks like I'm not the only thread killer here then, Bev.
Advance warning! I have been out taking more flower pictures in the sunshine. This was a lucky happenstance. Cheryl, you may regret telling me how to do this :D

Naughty me! At least that is the last thing crossed off my list for now - apart from full sheets of acrylic, that is - but these things can wait! :)
They're lovely sets -- the flourish one is really pretty, but I know that I'd (personally) never, ever use them

Troll beads are gorgeous - DH bought me a bracelet for my birthday and I have added a couple of beads to it - will find you a piccy later. Most beads fit on the bracelet. Dolly beads are my fave at the moment.

Morning girls :D
How is everyone? Lovely stamps Ali - they're definitely on my wishlist.
Had a busy weekend - driving lesson on Saturday morning then my crop for the rest of the day. On Sunday we went shopping for DH's outfit for my brother's wedding. I spent most of my crop and some more time on Sunday working on the exploding box for their wedding, and it's almost finished now - just the lid and the centrepiece to do. I was looking for a cake topper to put in the middle, but they were either too big to fit or too cutesy :(
Then I got out my sewing machine - for the first time ever!! It was inherited from my Grandma, and has moved with me for about the last 8 years, but it didn't have the instruction manual and I didn't even know how to thread it  I decided recently that I really ought to use it or get rid of it, so I managed to find a US site where you can buy the manuals for just about every machine ever made by the major manufacturers, downloaded it and off I went :) So expect to see sewing on my LOs in future ;)
Got a busy day at work today, and then a work dinner to go to, so won't be around much.

Have just phoned work to take today off as holiday. I'm feeling a bit shakey and back achey -- not quite bad enough to phone in sick, but bad enough that I think going in today would leave me incapable of getting in tomorrow and possibly Thursday. And as I'm currently not entitled to paid sick it's "cheaper" to take 1 day holiday than 2 days sick ;)
Going to try moving some of my stash around today as when my back is starting to play up it's a case of staying mobile (one reason going to work -- desk job -- isn't a good idea), so hopefully I'll have a bit of space to scrap in come the CC at the weekend

It's hard to tell how much you drink as they keep topping up the glasses, but it must have been at least 2 each of champagne, white wine, red wine and port  Speeches didn't finish until 10.30, and as it took me 40 minutes to get to the station, by the time I could actually get out (thank the host, collect bits from cloakroom etc) I didn't make the 11.11pm train, so I got in at about half-past midnight. Morning all, lovely day here too. Wise move, Cheryl, staying at home. An of course the 'gentle' exercise in your scrap room is totally theraputic :D
I got up early, got washing on, cleaned kitchen and hoovered downstairs. Went into town to do some banking, bought some greyboard for some book covers and some pretty paper to cover them with, bought some new jamas for the CC, took a lovely walk by the river and took some photos of the ducks. Am now home, sitting here with a lovely coffee and realised that the cheques to be banked are still in my handbag. Oh Bu**er, now I'll have to go out again.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Cheryl. Speaking of the PO, have you had a delivery from me?
Yes thanks  and one from someone else (not a SAD member) I need to post something back to today!!
Hubby gave them me just under an hour ago as I was heading out for the bus (to get the paper and DVD from Tesco), commenting that one came on Thursday, and the other "since then"!! He normally leaves post in one of 2 places, but these were tucked away in another spot I'll now have to keep my eyes on
Definitely wouldn't have managed the bus to/from work today. Only did a 3-4 mile round trip, and I'm all knotted up!! But I'd counted the calendar this morning, and have confirmation as to why I've got my flare up.... which means it's likely to get worse this afternoon (even with meds) before it improves -- but should almost certainly be settled again for work tomorrow :)

1. How much do you use your cuttlebug, and is there a way of using the embossing folders without the machine (think I heard someone uses a rolling pin!?!?)
2. How big and how heavy is the boxed machine (is it unrealistic to ask a friend to bring back from holiday) ?

I decided to go with the 'own stash' option and made the covers 7 X 12 inches. 15" was just too big. Will use BIA to put together. Love Shimelles classes since I did the Album in a day at Paperarts last year. Trying to decide wether to buy a journalling stamp for it or doing journalling blocks on the pc and printing them out. The only stamp I have is way too small.

Ladies with Cuttlebugs............I need some advice..........
1. How much do you use your cuttlebug, and is there a way of using the embossing folders without the machine (think I heard someone uses a rolling pin!?!?)
2. How big and how heavy is the boxed machine (is it unrealistic to ask a friend to bring back from holiday) ?
I bought the embossing folders and use them in my Szzix, I should use an adapter in it, but I managed to find a paperback book that works just as well for the time being
I decided to go with the 'own stash' option and made the covers 7 X 12 inches. 15" was just too big. Will use BIA to put together. Love Shimelles classes since I did the Album in a day at Paperarts last year. Trying to decide wether to buy a journalling stamp for it or doing journalling blocks on the pc and printing them out. The only stamp I have is way too small.
is Shimelles class part of the Cybercrop?

I'm using my own stash - not sure if I have enough sheets of card the same colour for the pages - think I have a 12x12 sheet of chipboard somewhere. Think I'm going to do 6x12 too - just not sure how coordinated to make it look - quite fancy an eclectic look!! But will probab;y just look as though I haven't thought about it at all!! Going to make a start later.

i have used 6x12 and got 4 months done just waiting on an order to finish the others i used a half page map as a guide then fiddled with it for each page so it dosnt look to uniform have left room for journalling and up to 2 3x3 photos per page so 4 photos per month if i need it

Very unrealistic - I can't actually lift mine  And yes, you can use a rolling pin - just make sure you have a mouse mat (or something similar) underneath!

Every cc the only kit I've bought is a Shimelle one so I couldn't break with tradition could I?
No, I quite understand :D There are some traditions we have to adhere to, like when visiting a craft shop it would be rude not to buy something :D

Oh! Its bigger than I thought then! Ah well, you have saved me a purchase (for the time being ;) ) I may get a couple of embossing folders & put my long redundant rolling pin to some use :D
Well, you'd be proud of me today - I went straight past the stamp shop without even stopping :D

I can't lift my Bug because I'm feeble but it is really heavy - just off to stick it on the scales
i saw that too cheryl!!
doh! well it IS one I've wanted for over 2 years. checked out a couple of UK sites (including sponsors) and the best price is around £80+postage, despite the QK site having it listed for $60  Have got it from the US for around £38 including postage -- so just need to wait and see if I get hit for import now

Would love to go, but with things the way they are with me and DH I couldn't even book into the local one Rosemary Merry is doing later this year -- and I could have done it as a 'day candidate' to save some pennies too -- as I don't know where either of us will be health wise.
And this one is a bit soon for me even without those issues -- would mean no possibility of finding the money to kit out my craft room, and I'd rather do that as it's more long term :)

Right, either my scales are dodgy or I'm more feeble than I realised - without the box and all the cutting plates the Bug weighs just over 4.5kg!
the plates probably add quite a bit to it. I had a Cuttlebug in one hand my BS in the other (both with plates) at a crop -- just out of interest to compare them -- and there didn't seem to be much difference at all.
wanders off to try weighing my BS.......

Ooooh, I hope it gets there before you go away :o
Big Shot :
machine only = 3.429kg
with Multi-Purpose platform and 2 clear cutting plates = 4.183kg

well its quiet on here tonight
is playing with my craft room layout again!! trying to decide if I can "afford" to give up some cupboard space to gain a second desk area. it would give me one for laptop/printer/craft robo and one for crafting, instead of having to move my laptop out of the way when I want to craft -- and to the other end of the room when I want to print or use the CR. Would also save me £93 (around £73.50 after discount).
but either of these layouts will (if I understood the woman right on Friday) mean custom made worksurfaces (one is longer than the longest they carry as 'standard', even before I raise the issue of needing a joint put in to get my 'L'-shape -- both of which will increase the cost again) and have a 3-4 month delivery. But the cabinets would still be here in 3-4 weeks

Um, right, I'm going to have to change my rules. I needed a happy birthday stamp (was sure I had one - and I do, but it's vertical, which is no use), and two more stamps fell in my basket.
Which I have just been trying to get to stick to the wrong side of ez mount for the last 5 minutes...

Tricky decision, Cheryl. I'd initially be tempted to go for the quickest option - but being able to leave the laptop etc out does sound like a good idea
