How can I earn points?
Points can be earned in the following ways

1. Layouts & Canvases – For the purpose of the challenge a layout is classed as either a single page or a double page & must be no smaller than 6x6. A Canvas / single layout is worth 10 points, a double layout is worth 20 points. Only layouts that fit into this part of the guidelines maybe counted toward your monthly layout target.

2. Art & Circle Journals – You can earn 25 points for each Art journal / circle journal entry that you complete. An entry is whatever you enter into one persons journal be it 1,2 or even 4 pages not points per page completed. So you could do 1 page in one journal & earn the 25 points but in the next journal your entry could be 4 pages but this would still only be worth 25 points. The reason that Journals are worth more points than most other things is because they are more time consuming. An exception for Journals is when you start your own Journal then you would earn 25 points for making/covering/decorating the Journal & another 25 points for completing your entry

3. Altered Book & Journals (not CJs) - We have decided to include these in the challenge & you need to score them on the team spreadsheet in the Circle Journal column. Each 4 pages of an altered book or journal will be worth 25 points.

4. Tag books & Accordian Albums & Maze books . A tag book (do a gallery search for examples) or an accordian-fold book, usually with about 4 pages; each page is a decorated pocket and holds a decorated tag. Hand made, decorated and filled tag & accordian books are worth 25pts.

5. FOTW – You can earn 5 points each time that you use one of Mary Anne’s FOTW(Font of the Week) on a layout. The FOTW can be any font from the previous month or current month.

6. Minibooks, Sarabooks, etc and fully decorated exploding boxes – These are now worth a set amount of points rather than being treated as layouts. Each minibook, sarabook, accordion fold full album etc will be worth 50 points regardless of how many pages they have in them etc. You may not count pages in these books towards your monthly layout target. A 'mini book' is defined as a sarabook or similar, or any mini-album of smaller than 6x6.

7. Handmade Albums – If you make an album totally from scratch then you can earn yourself 30 points. These must be albums that hold page protectors & not minibooks, sarabooks etc

8. Weekly Challenges – Bonus points can be earned for weekly challenges. Points will vary from week to week. There is a stickied thread in the Inspirations and Challenges forum which tells you who is setting challenges and when. If you/your team wish to set a challenge then please let Scrapdolly know in that thread. Challenges are worth a maximum of 30 points and 10 of those points should be awarded for using a specific technique. You can do the challenge as many times as you like BUT you can only earn the bonus points once. A maximum of 30 bonus points can be earned in a week. You can do the challenges digitally but please note it may not be possible to earn all of the bonus points digitally.

How does my team earn bonus points?
For every 50 layouts completed by the team within the month, the team is automatically awarded 50 bonus points. The points spreadsheet is programmed to do this, so all you need to do to claim your points are fill in the sheet correctly.

What are the Weekly Challenges?
Each week on a Thursday a challenge will be set by one of the participating teams. You can do as many layouts as you wish using the challenge details but you will only get your bonus points ONCE - so each week you can earn a MAXIMUM of 30 bonus points. These challenges are not compulsory. You can only claim points for challenges completed WITHIN the week they are set.
If your team wishes to host a challenge - then please PM Scrapdolly or post in the weekly challenges thread with your request and I will assign you the next available slot.
Team Leaders ensure you read the thread explaining when you have send the information to Scrapdolly and do ask if you have any questions.

Do I have to upload everything I do to the gallery?
No you don’t. We appreciate that some people either don’t have the means or time to upload everything they do to the gallery, however it would be nice if you could share some of your work from time to time. Our team system is designed to be fun and it works on TRUST You don't have to upload to get your points, we are all friends and fellow scrappers so we all trust each other. However, if you more than 39 layouts a month, 5 cj's or mini books then you do need to e mail scrappybunny proof

When do I need to submit my points to my team leader?
You must submit your points to your team leader by 4th or 5th of the month as the team leader has to complete the spreadsheet and send it on to the house leader by 6th of each month so that results can be posted on the boards on 7th. Please try to keep to the deadlines as results received after these dates cannot be entered on the boards.

How do we know that people are submitting accurate results?
The simple answer to this is we don’t. We are all adults(apart from the kids team :lol) & I really hope that people don’t feel it necessary to cheat & hope that we can all trust each other. As we have said before the challenge is for FUN!!!

Do Digital pages count?
The answer is OF COURSE
Digital layouts, both single and double, get the same points as paper single and double pages; 10 and 20 points respectively.
There is, however, a big difference in challenges. The teams that set the challenges have the right to set whatever they want - we are all just grateful that they set them at all. Often the things they specify cannot be done digitally. For example a challenge may have points for embossing, for using rubber stamps, for adding a keepsake like a lock of hair, for including a handmade envelope or a mini book. Clearly those are things that you cannot do digitally. You could put a digital envelope on, but it is not the same as making a handmade envelope. You could mimic stamping but it is not rubber stamping.
Digital scrappers need to accept that they can, of course, do the challenges, but often cannot earn all 30 bonus points and should not, on trust, claim them.

Where do I find the challenges?
People are sometimes unclear as to where to find the challenges
Weekly challenges are posted on the home page and in the challenges and inspiration forum every Monday
House challenges are posted in the challenges and inspirations forum on the first Thursday of the month or the nearest Thursday to the start of the month

How do I join a house?
Every team which collects points is allocated to one of the four houses – Red Ribbons, Green Buttons, Blue Brads and Gold Eyelets. Your team leader submits your points to the house leaders at the end of each month and the house leaders submit them to me. As well as a team winner each month there is also a house winner. Houses each have their own common room in Team Chat so it is another place you can go to chat to get to know other people. Houses also compete in the house challenges (see separate thread)
You can see a full list of house members and details of where to send points in this thread here
http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/...ad.php?t=87181

Thanks to Sam and Shez for all the work they did setting this up initially when the team system started.

Ladies I know you love the whole team system and it is now bigger than ever. It is part of UKS to get you chatting, making friends, competing in the nicest possible way, get you scrapping, encourage you to try new things and share your ideas and is meant to be - above everything else – FUN

Teams Update

We have had a few issues regarding points in the past few months and so we have decided to overhaul the system a little and set some new limits on points reporting.

We want this to continue to be a fun competition, where it works on trust, and so we have decided that work does not have to be uploaded to be counted towards your points, unless it falls into one of the categories below.
I have consulted with all of the house leaders and Fi and I have discussed it at length to make sure it is a fair and workable system.

Our concern was to keep everyone happy. Clearly it would be unfair to say that everything had to be uploaded to count as some people prefer not to share their work or are unable to chare it due to technical difficulties or because it is work for publication. However, we have had to look at setting limits for work that is not necessarily uploaded and have now agreed what these limits should be.

Claiming for more than 39 layouts

If you claim points for more than 39 layouts in a month you will need to scan or photograph all of your work and send an email showing all of the layouts to
scrappybunny
Please do not send 40 different e mails. Link lots of pages together digitally so one A4 sheet may contain 30 small images for example. That we we can verify, for everyone, that that number of pages have been completed, that the pages are all different, not duplicates of the same page and that pages are not being re-worked with only slight modifications. Please remember a double Lo counts as 2 pages when working out your totals in this way as it is worth 20 points.

Claiming for more than 2 mini books /tag books/accordion books

If you claim for more than 2 mini books in a month the pages must all be scanned and e mailed in the same way as detailed above.

Claiming more than 5 Circle Journals

If you claim for more than 5 circle journals in a month the pages must all be scanned and e mailed as detailed above.

Points for cards

We have also made the decision to cease giving points for cards. There has always been an issue over cards and whether or not cards made for sale could be included. We have therefore decided that, as the team points system has always been to focus attention on scrapping, cards can no longer be included. Team leaders just leave that column blank on your forms in future.

Weekly Challenges

Weekly challenges will now run from Monday to Sunday with the new challenges being posted in the forum and on the font page on a Monday. The changes will come into effect on 1st July so the challenge set on 22nd June will just be an extra long one with the new challenge not being set until Monday 3rd July and will then return to weekly after that. I will post an altered schedule in the weekly challenges thread and remind the teams coming up that they have to post on a different day. Points will remain unchanged at a maximum of 30 per week.

We know that some people will be unhappy with the changes, but we have tried to keep any changes as small as possible to make it the best possible system we can have for everyone involved. There are now more than 75 teams involved, amounting to some 750 people, so clearly we are not going to please everyone, but we have had a jolly good try!

These changes will come into effect straight away so will affect your submission of points for June.

PLEASE NOTE - e mails must be sent confirming high rate points by 4th of the month.

Thank you all for continuing to support the whole team system on UKS, for taking part, playing along with the challenges, reporting points and – for doing what we all do so well – for chatting and scrapping

If you have any questions then feel free to PM me (I am almost always around!)
Karen

Oooh, the thread got me! First time. As I was trying to say....

If only eh Barra?

Wouldn't it be nice to do a Scrummies weekend? Problem is, I've no idea where you all are (apart from Theresa and Maria) and my geography is terrible! At least I'll get to meet a few of you at the Lurvlies retreat in October. :D

Yeah, if only ....... still, at least we have worked out a system - we alternate one day out and one day in .... and he goes out by himself on the 'in' days if he wants to, so he's not as bad as I paint him, really :)

A Scrummies weekend sounds great ....... maybe after the Lurvelies retreat we could chat about the possibility ... (daren't think too hard about it now as I can only just afford the Lurve Retreat .....) ...it would be nice, though :)

Yeah! That's a great idea! There are loads of places we could consider going to. :)

We also have a lovely craft shop, one of UKS sponsors near here - Hobby Horse.

- That's food for thought. :)

I think I may have to cancel going to my crop tomorrow - I can hardly do a thing I just feel so exhausted. Walking up the stairs is just too much effort...I do not want to cancel on it but I do not think I will cope. I sound so pathetic.

Fingers crossed that Theresa's Mum is ok. It would be a shame if they had to come home early. I hope she can still enjoy her hols.

I hope they find out whats up with your Dad soon Maria.

Oh dear, what have I done.........so now you want a Scrummy weekend??!! :D:D Do you think Theresa would be up for that too? Don't know when it could be though, as some of us are going on the Lurve retreat in October so not sure everyone could afford it.

Hi ya Hello. :D U ok?

Good morning Scrummies! :D

I'm having trouble sleeping. My body clock is a bit "out" following nights. So, I thought I'd pop on here for a bit. :)

So, what do you all have planned for today?

Jules - I think you should listen to what your body is telling you today, ie if you really feel it's too much to go to the crop, then don't go. You probably need the rest at home.

The suggestion of a Scrummy Retreat is great, but no one has to feel pressured about it. :) If it happens that will be good, but it may simply be a nice idea. IYSWIM. :)

I hope Theresa is still able to relax and enjoy the rest of her holiday. I have been thinking of her a lot. My Dad went through similar dilemas during the last 2 years of my Grandad's life. Dad and my Uncle both decided that they would carry on with their holiday plans (of which they both have about 3 a year! - Oh to be retired!) They had an understanding that neither would contact the other if anything did happen to Grandad, but wait for them to be back home. As it turned out Grandad died whilst Dad & Iris where on holiday in Alaska. They didn't know 'til the evening they arrived back in England, about a week later. :( I found that quite hard, to think that we were mourning for Grandad, whilst they were enjoying their holiday, but this was the arrangement that they felt happiest with.

Well, I am planning to work on the album for Chrissie this weekend. I have 13 LOs so far and a few more on the way. :) It's looking lovely. I also have a number of jobs that I need to do around the house and maybe get in the garden too. :) It's good to have a whole weekend off. I only get one of those every few months.

Susan - I will do the LO for Chrissie today - you did say 8x8 did you not?Meant to do it earlier in the wk but a few things took over!?

The weekends are fab - I am in charge of organising the lurvlies retreat this year - last year we rented a huge house in the Midlands and this Oct we are in the New Forest - maybe we could organise it for early next year...they do take a bit of planning and I cannot afford two really close together. It would be great to meet everyone! Obviously I have met Sam and Theresa already.

Morning. Rough night here too, couldn't stop coughing and couldn't take any more cough medicine until about 1.30am. Luckily G went into D (yes, he's still in the spare room :() so I got to sleep until about 8.15. Have taken all my bits n bobs now just waiting for them to work. *sigh*

Jules - hope you're feeling bit better today hun.

I've been thinking about Theresa too, hopefully Maria will have some news for us.

Ali - perhaps you can watch Saw 3 another time? Was it on Sky?

Susan - enjoy your free weekend. :D

We were going to try and sort the garden, but its raining here.

I think early next year is a great idea for a Scrummy's Scrapathon!!! :D Lets see what our illustrious leader thinks when she's back.

Julesmichelle
19-04-2008, 10:16 AM
What is Saw 3 about? I have never heard of it?

SamG

As far as I know the Saw films are a gruesome horror film where people get bits sawed off!!

Susan66
19-04-2008, 11:18 AM
hi again,

I went back to bed for a couple of hours! :)

Jules - I think you made the right decision to give the crop a miss today. So, what do your new responsibilities at work involve? - Extra pay.....? :D
I didn't want to trouble you about the LO for Chrissie, knowing that you've not been well. But if you feel upto doing one today, that will be lovely. Thanks. Yes, it is 8x8. :)

Barra - enjoy your weekend away, although I expect I've missed you by now.

Ali - I think chipped nails on the keyboard are just an occupational hazard of being a UKSer! :D

Sending {{{{hugs}}}} Sam. Sorry you had such a rough night.

As for horror films - count me out! :o I really don't like anything remotely scary on TV. It's the background music that gets me. A dramatic silence in a film is even worse! When I feel the tension rising, I leave the room! Seriously! So, if we are to have a weekend retreat, then I shall insist on no scary movies. :nono: - OK??

Julesmichelle
19-04-2008, 11:28 AM
Ah bless Susan! I tend to laugh at scary movies!

My new role mean smore responsibility and should mean more pay! Figures yet to be discussed.

Glad you got some more sleep Susan - hopefully you will get to enjoy your day.

Hi Theresa,

i spoke to them both this morning... my brother was crying... :( i´ve only ever known him cry once before... :(

they are going into the hospital again today and hope to find out more... but john did say that mum looked better yesterday than she had done all week...

apparantly she went downhill very suddenly on tuesday... she was meant to be getting discharged that day... but whilst they were waiting for her transport her blood pressure began to drop dramatically...

will have to wait and see... :(

hello jules...:D

we are due back next saturday...

part of the problem yesterday was all the flights are full... loads of people heading back to the northeast for the end of the school´s easter holidays...

the earliest they could have fitted us on was 10pm tonight... i think if i could have gone quickly yesterday i would have... but may and john seem more hopeful now...

theresa b
19-04-2008, 11:48 AM
yes i think there are always easy jet flights... we flew over with thomas cook... and i think they only have newcastle flights on a saturday... but if needed we could come home with easy jet as an insurance claim...

Theresa..thanks for taking the time to pop on and keep your mama hens updated..we have all been thinking of you ..!Lets hope things continue to pick up for your mum..

Back from town..Abi exhausted..really took things at her space in town too..we were going to watch a street performers show but she was cold and I think she had had enough!
Now doing some colouring by numbers..she needs some help with her number recognition and I thought this would help in a fun way!

For those who havent had the pleasure of watching a Saw film ..its a psycoligal thriller stroke horror stroke gore fest!!!And it has a story to it!!
I happened to watch the first one on tv ,then bought the second on DVD and my nephew Dan who was 18 last month bought 3 & 4 so lent me 3 to watch...i dont think he can quite belive I can watch them ..his Mum cant!!

Potatoes in the oven baking then its a night in front of the TV

Hi Ali. ((hugs)) for Abi she is obviosuly still feeling th eeffects of the infection. Bless her. The colour by numbers is such a good idea with little ones as they do not realise they are learning!

Hope you enjoy your evening in - I will watch Casualty but that is as good as it gets for me. I am so very tired, so will take it easy - can not sit in one place for too long though because of my back.

I dozed off last night in the armchair and awoke to find Tinks wide awake and happily doing her own thing and Dan walking in the door from a night out with his mates. He dropped a kiss on my forehead and went to make a drink...I feel like it is total role reversal...I am supposed to be the one out, the kids are supposed to be asleep and I am supposed to kiss them goodnight! LOL

Hello all,

Jules - isn't it lovely when your kids start to show they can be responsible? You think: "I've done a good job and trained you well!"
I hope your back doesn't cause you too much bother, so you can sit and relax for a bit.

Ali - colouring by numbers sounds like a great idea for Abi. Sending {{{hugs}}} and hopes she soon feels better. My boys were both on "BBC Bitesize" earlier, playing games. They have optional SATS coming up, so I want them to do some revision. - Again, because it's fun they don't mind doing it. Daniel was getting frustrated though, 'cos it takes him ages to read the questions and by the time he has, the timer on the game has run out, giving him no time to work out the answer. :( Adam found a different game, that didn't limit how long you spent on each question, but gave you an overall time limit. So, this may be better for Daniel.

Susan66

Oh Jules, please don't worry about duplicating ideas. These were just quick LOs of mine, to go opposite some of the single LOs . I'm sure you'll do a much better job than me! :D

There's only 2 other LOs about 1968 - No 1 song on the day Chrissie was born and "Matched & Dispatched" (about Jacqueline Kennedy & Martin Luther King.)

HTH :)

As far as I know the Saw films are a gruesome horror film where people get bits sawed off!!

What terrible English! how about.....people get bits sawn off!! (you can tell I'm tired).

Theresa - so glad that you're mum is doing ok, I hope you can try and enjoy the rest of your holiday. As everyone said, we've been thinking of you all lots.

More pay sounds good Jules, fingers crossed its worth it! :)

Hope everyone is having a good day - I have watched one movie with Tinks and now have Coyote Ugly on - it is so fab!!!! I have done one DLO and made a card, plus finished some chipboard letters for another DLO so that should be put together farily easily. We love Coyote Ugly here, we have it on DVD. :) Look forward to seeing your LOs Jules?????

Sounds like you need to get an early night Jules. ((hugs)) What lovely kids you have, at least you know they can fend for themselves and don't have to worry about them too much.

I am really struggling with UKS, I try to submit and post and it does not happen, when I refresh the page I end up with a blank screena nd have to come out of it and re-enter the thread and lost again. Is it just me??? Not been on much today, but it kept doing this to me a couple of weeks ago (for several days) and it drove me mad. It just seemed to sort itself out in the end.

As promised, here are the quick LOs I've been working on today: :)

103023 103024 103025 103026

Susan - those LOs are great! My inlaws have been married 50 years this year and I keep thinking I should make them an album. But stupid me didn't copy any of their photos when I was there! My BIL is also 50 this year (MIL was 17 and & months preggers when she got wed) so might do a BIA book for him with things that happened the year he was born too.

I've been making cards this afternoon for my Mum to sell at work (she's an Office Manager at a grammar school). She's been on at me for about 2 years to do a box and about 6 months ago someone started taking in their Mum's cards to sell and she's selling quite a few. But my Mum said that her cards are nowhere near as good as mine (I think her style is less modern), so there should be a market for mine too. Gonna try it and see. I might also get her to tell people that I can do personalised ones to order.

Have also had great fun with the Expression earlier, George was helping (he loves my "cutting 'chine"!!). We cut out some Mickey characters and are going to put them on his bedroom door. He was just happy pressing the load/unload/cut buttons. Bless. He's def a crafter in the making. He's always telling me "we can make something with that Mummy"!!

I nearly used some crochet flowers today, but didn't, coz I was making a card and want to keep them!!! Aren't I mean? I must go and get a crochet hook and try it, it looks quite simple (once you get the hang of it) and I could do them in front of the tv.

Susan66

Hi Sam,

Sounds like you and George have been having fun. :) I had some kids playing with my "Big Shot" the other day. - I think they love it 'cos the results are instant! :D

Thanks for the positive comments re my quick LOs. :) The idea of a BIA album for your BIL sounds good. :) Could you ask another family member for some old photo's of your inlaws?

I made another card with a large crochet flower on today. You're right, they are easy, once you get your head around the technique and the abbreviations used in patterns. Do you have any instructions?

SamG
19-04-2008, 08:02 PM
I have found some instructions on the web and have some in a magazine, so should be able to do it between those 2. If I get stuck I'll shout. :) My biggest problem will be remembering to get a crochet hook and some wool! Any tips on types of wool/thread to go for? (talk laymans terms please! :))

George loves the cuttlebug even more, he even speaks to it! (mind you, I talk to Ernie - the cricut!!!). He like to be chief handle turner.

I hope you don't all mind, but when I eventually take my birthday cards down I'm going to recycle the embellishments? I hope you all do the same if you get some on cards from me! I got so many cards I def can't keep them. :D

I know that nobody else in the immediate family has old photos of inlaws, but I could try contacting some of Daren's aunts (his uncles - MILs brothers - have all died now). I have a few of D and his siblings when they were younger, so could use them. TBH, my inlaws will be happy with anything I make them, they are some of my biggest fans. :)

I wonder how Maria's Dad is doing today?

Yes, and Theresa's mum.

Glad to hear your inlaws like your work. :D It makes it so much easier to spend time making things when you know they will be appreciated. I know that's how I feel about making this album for Chrissie. :)

Re crochet hooks etc. - No real advise. Just the thicker the wool, the larger the needle. I made most of the flowers that I sent you with a 5mm needle and double knitting wool. The small white ones were made with a 3.5mm needle and 4 ply wool. As for the flower on your card, that's made with a cotton thread. I really like the feel and look of that. When Kate and I met up she had some acrylic thread, which was really soft to work with.

I can always give the link to the house the lurvlies stayed in last year in the Midlands - it was quite a decent size and was about 10 of us then - only problem we struggled with was finding properties with single beds - some of us had to double up last year.

I will have a proper look later. I tend to feel guilty wherever I buy them from - if I buy from the UK I fel bad to my bank account as they are so expensive if I buy from the states my bank is happier but then I feel guilty for no helping UK traders. Women's guilt - fab eh!

A friend/colleague has just txt m eto say she is coming round to see me so I am going to run a bath and have a quick splash around - lets hope the repair man fixed the leak in my bath properly the other day...luckily the ceiling still has a major hole in it and not been repaired so if it leaks again it cannot do any further damage!

hello everyone...:D

i´ve just been looking at train times for when we get back... think i will just buy an open return at the station as it gives me most flexibility...

seen the talk of a midlands retreat...:D

jules - there were also those youth hostel cottages that barra knew about... there was a really nice one in the midlands... (it´s properties the youth hostel people own... they are proper self catering places... not youth hostels as such...)

not much to update on mum... spoke to my sister yesterday... she chatted a bit yesterday but seems very tired... (mum this is...) apparantly she was chatting alot in her sleep...

Hi Theresa, when are you planning your homeward trip? Sorry if you've already told us, memory terrible at the moment.

Susan66
20-04-2008, 10:39 AM
Hi Theresa,

Glad your mum is no worse.

Morning everyone! :)

Re the retreat idea: I had wondered about something like a hostel. I went on a weekend with the NCT to a place called Barnts Green, south of Birmingham. We all had single beds. We didn't do self-catering, but I don't know if there is an option for that? Think I'll go and look it up.

Can't stay long now, 'cos it's Sunday, which means Church and I'm on Sunday School duty.

The house seems quiet this morning. Adam was at a party last night, followed by a sleep-over. I can imagine what time they all got to sleep.....or didn't, as the case may be! It's amazing how much quieter the house is with one child missing!

Catch up with you all later. :)

Morning Scrummys :D

Sam theresa is going to head down on the 28th (the monday after she gets home)

Well yesterday i made a start on my team los :o Have a little heidi swapp album half decorated and all the pages cut out... just need to decorate now
I was going to tidy the garden this morning but its looking like rain so might just do some scrapping!

Dad is still up and down.... seemed a bit confused last night and I'm not happy with his bloated abdomen... I'm thinking it could be ascites???
Nasty nurse on last night so wasn't going to bring it up with her  The woman has atrocious manners :o She walked away from a patient last night when he was still trying to talk to her  Anyhoo... Dad's consiltant is back from his hols tomorrow so here's hoping he'll see my dad and make some decisions :D

Jules hope you're feeling better soon

SamG
20-04-2008, 11:18 AM
The hostel sounds good Susan, let us know how you get on. :)
And the sleepover sounds fun, George keeps asking me what a sleepover is, he must have heard it on the tv. We long for a bit of peace and then when the kids are absent we miss them, don't we??!

Maria - I thought thats what Theresa was doing. Ta. :)
Well done on the team LOs, all I've done is thought about it at the moment. Have quite a few ideas so shouldn't take long when I get round to it.
We're thinking of going out the garden too, the sun is trying to come through here so fingers cross.

Sorry to hear that Dad is up and down, how old is he Maria?
Bit worrying about his tummy, what is ascites??!!
Why are some people so rude, I'm always shocked (bit naive) when people in the caring profession are so awful. My limited experience has only seen nice people, but my Mum and Dad are both suffering health problems now so its only a matter of time before we have to deal with them.
Sending you lots of (((hugs))).

Oh and here's the LO I did so late last night. It took me quite a while, but I'm pleased with it. http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=157712&cat=500

Julesmichelle
20-04-2008, 04:29 PM
A youth hostel may be so much cheaper - only concern is whether there is scrapping space or are we just meeting and not scrapping?

Susan66
20-04-2008, 04:49 PM
I've done a bit of research! (that sounds grand, doesn't it!!) Actually, I went out to the garage and dug out my 10 year old NCT notes!

I almost remembered correctly. The place I went to was called Barnes Close. Here's (http://www.cfrbarnesclose.co.uk/cfr/cfrbarnescloseintro.htm) their web site. Have a look and see what you think. :) I know that when I attended the environment was very welcoming and it was a very peaceful, enjoyable weekend. According to the web they don't do self-catering, but that may be a bonus! There's no mention of prices on the web either.

They have plenty of meeting rooms, so I am sure we could do lots of crafting during our time there, if that's what people want to do. :)

Julesmichelle
20-04-2008, 05:03 PM
Looks an interesting option Susan - I wonder what the prices are like.

Here is the link to the one we stayed in last Oct

Susan66

That cottage looks lovely, Jules. A real touch of luxury, especially with a heated indoor pool. :)

I suppose it depends on what we want to go for - splash out on luxury, or economise and be happy with more basic facilities.

Susan66
20-04-2008, 05:17 PM
I've just sent an email to Barnes Close, to ask about prices. Will let you all know what is said. :)

Julesmichelle
20-04-2008, 05:46 PM
Believe me, I am more than happy to economise to be honest. Moent is very tight for me these days and only one person used the pool on one occasion.

I like the look of your place...it looks very restful ! If meals are cooked it will take some of the burden off of everyone.

Susan66
20-04-2008, 06:00 PM
Wow! I've just had a reply from Barnes Close. That was quick! :D

"Dear Susan

Our current charges are
£16 per person per day (includes morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea)
£25 per person per day (includes above plus evening meal)
£44 per person per night (includes Evening meal, room, breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea)
£82 per person per weekend (from Friday evening meal to after Sunday lunch). Minimum group size at weekends is normally 20 people.
We anticipate increasing charges by around 5% for 2009

Hope this helps

Ian Ring"

- food for thought there!

Julesmichelle
20-04-2008, 06:18 PM
Prices look very good Susan, wonder if we can do Friday evening through to Monday morning so we get two full days of scrapping in...

I collected Adam from the party/sleep-over at about 3pm. He had a good time, although not a lot of sleep! Why do they call it a "sleep"-over, when they know they probably won't go to sleep?!

He was very bright when he came in. He sat watching the TV with Daniel and by about 4pm he was asleep. He's still flat-out now!

Not sure about that. It says "usually", so they may be able to make exceptions, depending on what other bookings they've got. :)

They may have another group on their books who can't come as they do not have enough people so we could combine it! Or there may b eanother team online here who have similar numbers who would look to having their own retreat...if we could have two meeting rooms for scrapping or one lge one!

Hi ya!

Sam on the closed thread you asked if I bathed all the girls together - no Sarah has no balance and generally goes in with me or Joe, Cait likes a shower and the older two well I *think* the shower, least I tell them too, bath time consists of me asking the older two if they think a shower might be a good idea, and can they clean up after them :) and taking Cait in the shower with me (sorry if TMI)

I probably can't stay over night (and you might not like me and I might smell) cuz of the girls - sorry um have you thought of the economy option travel lodge do rms for £19 a night and hiring a local church hall - anyhow

I finally only have 1 house guest last night we were upto 7 plus 4 extra dogs, I certainly didnt get much sleep last night seemed like everyone wanted something,

Sarah's christening was nice she was good, his family managed to upset me, they arranged an 18th birthday party after the christening didnt invite us, so there you go,

I feel really fragile, I think I might see if we can get away on a short break, somewhere hot might be nice

Susan - house hunting - um (sorepoint) Joe has been acting out again, infact he's cleaning now so I guess we'll argue later. So three weeks thursday, he's off and I am going to get the house valued and see if they think they can sell it - we've had a couple of verbal offers, so it shouldnt be hard but I need to sell it for what we paid. If they can sell it (quickly)we'll sell and then rent for 6 months I don't want to buy anything just yet, I'm not sure if I want to stay (sorry TMI again)

Anyhow I need to run round and do some jobs - talk to you laters

I know being ill is not the best way to keep weight off but I have really lost my apetite so if I can eat sm meals from now on hopefully I will lose.

How are you today?

Both places for our mini retreat sound good and as much as I'd love a pool I think the cheaper option might be sensible. Oooh, how exciting!! :D Shame we can't go on our own, perhaps we could ask them about our group size, after all, we will probably need more "meeting" room than their usual groups!!!
Also, I think the meals being provided is a great idea, then we won't have to worry about getting food or going out to eat. More scrapping time!!!

Glad Adam had fun at his sleepover - I remember them at my friend Vanessa's when we were about 13!!!! (nostalgic sigh and gaze out the window!!).

((((((((Kate))))))) Sorry to hear things are rough at yours honey. And sorry to hear about family upsetting you at the christening, I didn't realise it was this week. So, excuse me if I'm thick (or putting my foot in it) but did I understand your post right, when you said Joe is off and you're going to sell the house? :(
I didn't want to get this wrong. You know where we are if you need us, PM or thread. xxx And don't worry about TMI, thats what mates are for.

Well done on the 5lbs Jules! I need to weigh myself :(:(:(, I've been off chocolate for over a week with this cough (:o) but I bet I haven't lost anything coz I've been doing a lot of sitting around. Hope work goes well.

I finished my antib's yesterday and am still feeling a bit rough, D said to go back to Drs, but as all the gunk (sorry, TMI?) has gone I would think that means my infection has gone and I'm just left with the cough/cold. So I doubt they'll give me another prescription. Any opinions?

Not much else going on here, joined Facebook last week as my sister keeps going on and on about it and now I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it!!! Found out my best mate is on there, so hopefully she or Sara (sis) will give me some help! Was a bit disappointed that none of my school friends were on there.

I need to finish and post a CJ today. Also a little parcel to our great niece (forgot to get here an easter egg!). Might make some cards as I seem to be on a bit of a role at the weekend. I also have 2 blank canvasses I want to do to go in our dining room, which I haven't got round to yet - will try and do those this week. Oh, and our team LO's, just the usual million projects on the go then!!

So anyone got anything exciting planned this week? George is back at nursery (guilty smile) so I'm hoping he'll be a bit less of a handful.

Good to read your news Sam! It didn't seem like a long post. :)

I would agree that, if your cough is no longer "productive" (-that's the medical term) then you probably don't need to go back to the GP. It's not good to have too many antibiotics. You can be left with a cough for upto 6 weeks! :o

Hope you have a productive day, whilst George is at Nursery. :)

I've got today and tomorrow off. I'm meeting up with Chrissie today, but will be hanging onto her album 'til Wednesday. I've got a few jobs to do around the house, but nothing much.

I've also just subscribed to another forum, for midwives. So, I'm trying to get my head around that!

no news here - i think mum is going to be like this for a while...

sam - my fil had ascites... it is common in cancer cases...:( fil had liver cancer and is fluid retention in the abdomen... it is a bit like the tale of the magic porridge pot... they drain the fluid to give the patient relief - but it fills up quickly and more of it...:(

maria really hope that isn´t what it is...:( (((HUGS)))

Hope Chrissie is ok and you enjoy your get together.

Thanks Theresa, ascites doesn't sound very nice. Hope that Maria's Dad doesn't have it.

Yes, I agree. Could it be due to the CC, 'cos people are chatting there more? TBH I only popped in there to say hi when I first signed up and have not been back since.

Jules - Hope you mananged to get your report finished.

Ali - sorry I missed you. :(

are you seeing chrissie today...?

Susan66
22-04-2008, 10:05 AM
No, I met up with her yesterday and gave her the birthday pressie from myself and my family. - I put together a "birthday kit" with lots of little things in it: balloons, chocolate, party poppers etc. as well as a few little keep-sakes. She loved it!

Today she has a lot on and is spending time with her DP.

:ph34r:shhhh! Tomorrow, myself and Kathryn (also on UKS) are meeting up to give Chrissie the album, which she still knows nothing about! :D

Susan66
22-04-2008, 11:17 AM
I'm sat here, waiting for the postee! I want to get on and finish the album, but I don't want to do anymore until I receive the last of the LOs. I'm like a kid who can't settle to anything!

In the meantime, here's (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=158046&limit=last1) the LO that I did yesterday, for the team challenge! :)

Off to update my sigi.

Yes, I agree. Could it be due to the CC, 'cos people are chatting there more? TBH I only popped in there to say hi when I first signed up and have not been back since.

Sam - hi. What do you have planned for today?
Ah yes, forgot about the CC. I did the same, I think I couldn't get into the momentum as I went away, even if I'm not at the caravan I don't think I'll be joining in at the weekend, haven't done any planning.

I've been to the Drs this morning, as felt rough again quite suddenly, she's given me antibiotics for sinusitis. *sigh*, its what I had back in February.

So poor George won't be seeing his friends this afternoon as planned, but he has had a play out the garden. He's now playing a "tune" on his ELC saxophone! He loves music, I might see if there is a kids class around here for him.

Well, I think I'm going to go and put my PJs back on and find some ibuprofen, my head/face is hurting.

Susan66
22-04-2008, 12:48 PM
Oh dear Sam. :( Sorry to hear you're feeling rough again and back on the antibiotics. {{{hugs}}} Hope George allows you to have a bit of rest. I don't suppose his "music" is helping your head? But, it is sweet when they enjoy making music! :)

SamG
22-04-2008, 12:54 PM
Its not very loud and I'm in the conservatory so a little away from him!

I think George will be going for a nap after lunch, he had a bad night (kept waking up - bad dreams I think) so he'll be tired later.

Susan66
22-04-2008, 12:55 PM

Susan66
22-04-2008, 06:00 PM
Well. I've done it! yeah! :D I've finished the album for Chrissie!

Jules - Your LO didn't arrive today. :( But, it'll be easy enough to add to the album, once it gets here. Is it a single or double LO?

Here's the finished item, complete with ribbons & beads. :)

Gorgeous album susan

I am shattered again tonight felt so much better after my long weekend but now feel dreadful again mind you it wasnt helped by the trains, a lorry had hit a bridge on the line home so what should have been a 15 minute journey took nearly and hour and half and that was the first train for nearly 3 hours so you can imagine how packed it was and no air con so boiling hot as well

I have booked some leave today a couple of weeks in May and a week in August so hopefully will get the benefit of the 2 week break mind you I probably wont want to go back:lol: and I am having another long weekend this week as well

Hope everyone is feeling OK and any poorly ones getr better soon

Does anyone remeber what week we were setting another challange I seem to have June in my head

Hi,

Just got in from my NCT meeting. - It was a bit boring, to be honest. All business talk. *yawn*

Jules - don't worry about not having finished the LO. Like I said, it will be easy to slot it in, when you do manage to post it to me. But, it would be helpful to know if it's a single or double LO. Thanks.

Didi - your journey home sounded miserable. Hope you have now had time to relax. :)

Morning everyone - I slept well last night which was a great start and whilst I now feel fuzzy headed I am sure I will be fine. I am still losing weight as I am not that bothered about food..I am eating bits but small amounts. Water is my best friend.

I hope everyone on here is fine today - I hope Maria gets some good news about her Dad and that Theresa's Mum is coping in hospital.

Evening everyone

Theresa try and relax and enjoy as best you can the rest of your holiday it sounds like your mum is unaware of what is going on we see quite a few elderly people like that after a fall then very often they gradually get back to normal but all of them always seem quite happy in their owjn little world I think its the minds way of coping it just shuts down the unpleasentness of today and goes back to happier times

Maria i am sorry your dad is not so good hope the scan can give you some answers

Well so much for having a whole 2 weeks off I have just found out that I am an examiner for the final year students for one of the days in May, I really cant not do it so will go into the uni just for the day.I wasnt planning on going anywhere as I dont go abroad because the sun sets my lupus off just looking forward to not having to get up and get out to work in the mornings

Hi.

Just got in from work. Ward was apparently very busy this morning. But the wonderful morning shift discharged loads of women. So, from about 4pm onwards it was bliss! Only 3 babies on the whole ward and a few more mums. :)

Julesmichelle

Ahh bless - poor Abi. She has not having good luck at the moment.
It will take me about 1.5 hours to get into town as I am going from home and it is a slow train. I then have to get to my destination so I am allowing 2 hours in total.

Morning everyone, sorry I wasn't around last night, started to feel a bit rough as the day went on and went to bed about 10pm (v early for me).

Glad you had a good shift Susan. Must be nice when there's only a few "customers"!

Glad you're having an easier morning Jules, and you can chill a bit on the train to London.
I don't miss commuting at all and I only did it for about 6 years. I found it really stressful and when I eventually got in I had no energy left to do anything except cook dinner.

Aw poor Abi, she's been suffering lately hasn't she? Glad the calpol worked, you're brave letting her use your pencils!! :)
As for the London accent, if you spoke to me you'd probably think I spoke a bit like that!

Yes, come on, show us the haircut! We need a before as well as you can't see much in your avatar! :D

Nothing exciting going on here today, am off for a chinese tonight with the PTA (would rather be at home watching Heroes!!) and then hopefully "stop n crop" in Tunbridge Wells tomorrow then off to the caravan tomorrow night. We're planning a lazy weekend. :)

Morning everyone.

Jules - have a good day in London.

Ali - would love to see some before and after photo's of your hair! :) Hope Abi is ok today and not bothered by her cough too much.

Theresa - Thanks for the update re. Marie's Dad. Very sorry to hear it's not good news. :( Thinking of you Marie, (if you have a chance to read the thread.) Thinking of you too, Theresa. The anniversary's are never easy, are they? But, probably a little harder this year, with your mum being ill too. Sending {{{hugs}}}

Sam - a lazy weekend in the caravan sounds good. Whereabouts is your caravan kept? I've not seen a forecast for the weekend. Is it going to be good weather??

As for my day - well, I am on a late shift again. I've got my student back with me today. She's been either on holiday, or in uni for the past 5 weeks.

This morning I'm going to visit a friend. She's just returned from nearly 4 weeks in Pakistan, so we'll have a lot of catching up to do. :)

Yes, I shall admit to feeling a certain weight of responsibility, making the album for my crafting "mentor"! But, it was so lovely to see her reaction when I gave her the gift yesterday. She had tears in her eyes, as she looked through the album.

Really sorry to hear about Maria's Dad, give her our love if you "speak" again Theresa.

{{{{hugs}}}} to Theresa, I'm sure your sister is thinking of your dad today and he'd want her to be near Mum. Try and have a good day.

Susan - have fun with your friend. I bet she has some great pics.

Our caravan is at Oakdene Forest Park, Ringwood (Dorset/Hampshire border). We're about 10 mins from Bournemouth and 15 mins from the New Forest. :D The weather is supposed to be good this weekend, fingers crossed.

A supplier I use (non sponsor) has 20% off bazzill, so let me know if you want their details.

I know the area. My Dad is in Salisbury and my Uncle is in Southampton. So, we quite often go to that area, on days out. We spent New Years Day in Bournemouth this year.

I was thinking about Barra too this morning, and thinking she's not been on for ages. The last time she posted I think she said her broadband had been fixed, but that she was going away (just for the weekend - I think).

I know the area. My Dad is in Salisbury and my Uncle is in Southampton. So, we quite often go to that area, on days out. We spent New Years Day in Bournemouth this year.

We love it down there, Daren would move there now if we could (to be nearer the coast/forest). Depends what happens here, Daren has had a few people ask if he'd be interested in selling his business, just vague enquiries at the moment but he's really fed up with the stress of it all and is quite keen. I don't know if I'm up for it or not, have just about settled here now (4 years in June), not sure I'd want to change area again yet.

(((Theresa))).

I think Barra's gone for a week too. :) She was talking about checking if the hotel next door had broadband - they obviously don't.

HOpe the meeting goes well Jules. :)

I've just had a weird experience. Well, have a read and tell me if you think it's wierd....!

Adam is doing Food Tech at school tomorrow, so I've just been to the shop and bought him some Strong White Flour. I was in the queue at the checkout and the woman ahead of me was taking forever.

A man then joined the queue, behind me. He saw the flour I was buying and said "That's impressive! Are you going home to do some baking?" To which I replied: "No, it's for my son. He's making bread at school tomorrow." The man then said "I'd like to buy that." So, I pointed to the isle where I bought the flour. He said "No, I'd like to pay for the flour that you're buying. It's great that your son is doing baking at school." I said I wouldn't dream of letting him pay for it! But he kept on. We must have been in the queue for a good 5 mins and he kept on trying to pursuade me to let him pay for the flour. I felt really uncomfortable. I'd never met him before! In the end I said something like "I'm in a well paid job. I can afford to buy a bag of flour. If it makes you feel better, put some money in a charity box!" Then, I finally paid for the flour myself and went to the car very quickly!

- What would you have done? Was I rude? Should I have accepted his offer? It was a weird moment!

Hiya :D

Just back from hosp for an hour and then back again
Dad much brighter and more stable now!
Still quite confused though.... he's been down for a CT scan this afternoon and they have also popped in a tube to drain the ascites..... 6 litres so far and still going
Staff on ICU fab  We have seen more doctors in an hour than we have since he was admitted
Still not sure what is causing all this but hoping that the scan will shed some light on things. Still not out of woods yet but much better.

Hi Samm, just read your blog, fingers crossed for Dad's treatment.
IKWYM about being a jelly licker! My 2 cats are "gravy lickers" and I always moan at Daren when he buys the mean in gravy tins by accident!!

Hope you all have a good evening, I'm logging off in a minute to get organised so that I can make sure I go out on time. :)
x

P.S. I went to the craft shop this afternoon and spent loads on stamps :o shhhhh!
