We used to have one of the shelves covered with plastic - as long as they are weighed down they are fine. We used ours for about 6 years until the plastic finally gave up. I don't do seeds but they were good for my little plug plants every year!

What with DD, being on here and scrapping don't have so much time to tend to the garden now. Used to do it in the early evening which is DDs bedtime of course so we have cut back on the bedding plants now.

yep she is :D

Last year she grew all sorts then had a plant sale and made a fortune  She sold sunflower plants and tomato plants :D

The awful thing is she got loads of shelving etc for her greenhouse for xmas and she cant use it as the greenhouse is knackered :(

They said if I let them know they will be able to arrage parts for me but wouldnt tell me how much until I make a list and to be honest its probably 90% of the greenhouse that needs replacing

Depends who put it up Sandra!!

I'm back - DH had dealt with it! What things on your head - need to know now!

Well we knew one of them did not like the cat litter tray when they were little as we had to lock the clean but unironed washing away after one of them decided that was nicer than the tray - seems we have just found out which one!

Going to try a different litter to see if this makes a difference as I don't like letting them out all night - especially as the cat flap is just under our bedroom and the thing will be clattering all night. Plus Cheshire (the pee culprit) is a hunter so would be bringing his prey in YEUCK not what you want at breakfast time!

hazgizz
18-04-2008, 10:28 AM
Yep - buy a load of packets of pulses/lentils and make soup and live off that

Then buy your bag! Tell DH its to compensate for you having to put up with him - plus his fish must have cost that much and they'll die but your bag wont:lol:

Our recycle men came yesterday so I'd put the bin out, but one of the bags with paper in had blown away and there was paper up the road. Too wet and rainy last night to go get it so had to go this morning :( Wish they'd give us a bin with a lid on for the paper!

Thanks

A Freegan is someone who gets food for free. Basically they go through the bins at supermarkets and shops etc where they throw food out and they take it home

It was amazing, all the food was still packeged up and in date, they got so much from the bins (bins looked clean too) they live like that which is why they call themselves "freegans"

Gottacraft
18-04-2008, 02:47 PM
I thought supermarkets gave food to shelters and the like. Mind you, I suppose if its out of date, then they have to throw it away.

Something I remember reading a while ago though, was the dates they put on, aren't neccesarily right .... you've still got time with them.

feline
18-04-2008, 03:02 PM
As with everything..my DH bless him completely and utter ignores dates and I never know how long something has been in the cupboard when he dishes it up, he'd blow dirt off a sweet if it fell on the floor

I'm pretty good at keeping the cupboards bare because if the kids don't eat it the flaming School want stuff for the bring and buy so its rare I have anything out of date

Mmm tooth, well its getting a little easier since I had the wash with iodine, not for the faint hearted but I can't keep my tongue away from the holes

Thanks for asking though

I know they say sometimes you should gargle with salty water .... the dentist told my dad to do that when he had his tooth out the other day

feline
18-04-2008, 03:19 PM
Yeah, I did that for the wisdom tooth I had removed and just my luck still managed to get an infection even with antibiotics, so for that last one I had removed I've just left it to its own devices and that one seems to be healing much better...strange

Are you watching Bones, I noticed we have another break in the CSI season...tis playing havoc with my viewing

Hi all
Just back from the vets with Cheshire. After I signed off last night found out he had pee'd in the bath too and there was blood in it. After going through the problem of bladder crystals with a previous cat (cost us over £1K) I am hoping this time it is just cystitsis - he has had anitbiotics and a pain killer now so that will help but we have to get a urine sample from him over the weekend - got glass beads to use in his tray - just got to lock him away so it is only him that uses it! Oh the joys of being a pet owner - bill so far £48.23 with another to come for the analysis of his pee!

feline

AAAAhhhh your wisdom teeth have been removed ..... now it all makes sense

What is that supposed to mean...I'll tell you a funny story that my DH finds rather amusing. I had the other three wisdom teeth taken out before we got married way back in 1994 because accordingly my jaw is not big enough for them to fit properly, and this was the last one and I had a molar removed the other day :D

I know you're killing yourself laughing...he did but its true I asked the other day, some people just haven't got big enough mouths and I'm one of them and soooo proud of that fact :P

Gottacraft
18-04-2008, 03:42 PM

No we do not have insurance we shopped around and despite all the ads for insurance at £7 a cat we could not find anyone who was prepared to do them as kittens for less than about £12 each. Thought that it would be better to keep the money in an account each month instead (guess what we have not done....) as £24 per month works out at £288 per year which if we did not use it is a lot of money and we know that once they reach 10 then they will not insure them any longer. If like one of our cats you are healthy all of their lives (well to ten anyway) you can save a whooping £1440!

Even with the cat who needed the medical treatment we "only" spent out just over £1,000.

EmilyLovedHim
18-04-2008, 05:35 PM
Nope I have not taken it out so sorry no voucher coming your way! That was per cat BTW and my bill was £48.23 so I would not have got anything back today as the excess on the policies is a minimum of £50 and on some I have been looking for would have been £70 or £100! Think I will set up a standing order now each month from my account to a pet account for them - at least this way all my bills will be covered baring something major happening as with Bardsley that time!

hazgizz
18-04-2008, 05:52 PM
We always had it for Tyson but think we paid something like £11-£15 a month, but it was worth it when we had to let him go because they covered pretty much all of it

However, when we took out Merry and Pippins we realised how much cheaper it was!

feline
18-04-2008, 07:19 PM
Aww Helen...I have to admit to not actually having our Lacie insured, like you its something I know I need to do but I can find other things to spend the cash on, in saying that though I've perhaps been lucky and not had any cat insured and never had huge vet bills, shhh might have put a jinx on that

Hazel, have you got a radiator hammock for your cats now...my Lacie has a cream furry one and she hated it at first, now she's put her fat ase in it that often Jay had to bend it back in shape

hazgizz
18-04-2008, 07:30 PM
OH always had insurance for Tyson - and it was a good job at the end with all the pills/potions they had him on - then obviously the euthenasia at the end :(

Yep - got one last week. They have had a bit of a sniff etc, but I put a fleece on it that pippin had been laying on - now she's not moved all day!

feline
18-04-2008, 08:02 PM
Aww, get some photos then...we can do another scraplift of each other

Lacie only moves off hers to fetch the mice at night..charming ain't she <_<

EmilyLovedHim
18-04-2008, 08:03 PM
Well I have got things moving by resurrecting a dormant account with ING once they send me all the details again I am setting up a monthly standing order to pay into the account. Still not ideal as you have to transfer the money back to your current account rather than having instant access but if I had that then I know that DH would find things for it to be spent on!

hazgizz

I am here! Cat radiator bed thread?? Heard it all now!

Where did you get yours from - DH says our two are too heavy and would pull the radiator off the wall . Cheshire was weighed at the vets today and he weighs 5.1kg or just over 11lbs! I was shocked he was that heavy but the vet thought he would be MORE!!!

hazgizz
18-04-2008, 09:50 PM
OMG 11lbs - how old is he?

I get it a olly's pet store in Sheffield - bit like Pets at Home. But Kevie92 said that Argos are selling them off at about 3quid

I doubt they'd pull the radiator off the wall - check out the pics of some cats on the thread - some of them are massive

Hope you're feeling better soon Lesley and that your OH gets back very soon Hazel:)

Roast beef and lamb aren't cooked very often in our house, as I don't eat either! Sometimes I roast a beef joint and stick in a couple of chicken thighs for myself.

I'm helping DD with her LO for the Animaniacs atm:) So lot's of mess here:lol:

Yes DD is joining in, she'll probably get more done than I will!

I went into a cheapie shop yesterday and bought loads of bits for her, so she doesn't have to use my stash!
I got 50 sheets of A4 card(which I cut to 8x8), beads, sequins, stars, flowers, buttons, ribbons and fibres. That lot cost me £6:D

I'm looking for a couple of Dovecraft/Papermania pads now and then she'll be all set.

What's happened Hazel???

Made yummy chocolate chcolate chip cake and them made the easiest yummiest sauce to go with it and we had vanilla ice cream as well MMMM.

Sauce was so easy: 100ml water and 3tbsp each of cocoa and sugar. Just heat and reduce until thick! Pour over cake and ice cream yummy!

hazgizz
20-04-2008, 06:45 PM
Just trying to get my photos sorted for the retreat. Doesnt give you a heap of info of what subject you should hve in your pics so am finding that difficult - and of course you dont know papers/colours so you need b&w!

Anyway, have ordered most of them off photobox - and then OH went to print out 8 2.5x3.5 pics of the cats - and did them in colour instead of b&w - then we ran out of photopaper!

Am convinced none of these pics will be right but hey ho

angelfish
20-04-2008, 07:05 PM
That chocolate sauce sounds great Helen:) I suppose you could just pour it over ice cream for a quick pud, if you didn't have time to make cake.

I know exactly where you're coming from with the photos Hazel.
I'm struggling for the CC and I know what the papers are for the classes!
At least I can print some out at home if I've chosen the wrong subjects.

Evening all:)

Took DD for her paeds appointment at the hospital today and went shopping afterwards rather than going back to school:nono::lol:
Her new consultant is lovely, so we're both happy:)

Now I'm showing her how to make a little book/folder like mine, while DH and DS are playing football in the garden:)

Hope everyone has had a good day:)

Evening Fi

What a good mum - letting her off school!

Does she have to go to the consultant often? Tell me to mind my beeswax, or did I miss it somewhere why she goes?

Can you show me how to make a book:lol:

You don't need to mind your beeswax Hazel:lol:
DD doesn't produce enough Growth hormone on her own, so she has daily injections of it. I have to take her every 6 months so that they can weigh and measure her to check progress:)

Today they asked for a wee sample, which she hasn't had to do before. It was definitely less trouble than you're having with your cat Helen:lol:

AWWW Kirsty hope you get better for the weekend. Certain that Hazel would not want to be without you.

DD back at school - I have lost my brain - left her lunch money at home, so it is lucky they said I could drop it in later as it is over half an hour there and back!

Morning all

Kirsty - how about having a nice relaxing hot bath in some Radox. Either that or some gorgeous, handsome masseur

Ok ... firstly sorry Hazel we were mean to you yesterday :( Are you still talking to us :)

Have fun at IKEA Fi, what do you want to get? Actually Hayley, they were talking about IKEA in the papers on Sunday .... I didn't read all of it, but they said something about thinking of getting in the police to help crowd control  Maybe they weren't needed after all

Helen, don't you just want to kick yourself when you do something like that .... I ususally remember when I'm half way to the place I want to get.

Lovely, sunny day here today ..... I'm even going to be able to put my washing out.

Cat - should be named s******g Houdini!!! We put him in the kitchen and when I came back from school GONE! He has broken the cat flap and got out!

Anyway good news is that I have finally completed my LO, photo not too good for some reason the colours look a lot duller but have a look here (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=158058&cat=500). This is one very close to my heart as my baby brother has really had a tough time of things these part couple of years (and still is really) with his now ex partner and I am hoping that he is finally going to get the happiness that he truly deserves. If you can read the journaling I must say this is actually some of the easiest I have ever done but also the most heartfelt. I  my baby bro!

RANT ALERT!!! Sorry have to do this I am soooo p'ed off!!!

Just been out hanging out some washing to hear the snotty cow around the back who is friendly with our neighbour saying how she does not understand the need to hang washing out these days and it just spoils your garden . OK I agree not pretty but not all of us have huge houses with just two living there and a utility room complete with tumble dryer and the funds to keep it going all the time! Added to which I much prefer my clothes dried naturally on a lovely day like today! Sorry to rant but she is just so stuck up it is untrue, and they have so much money they don't know what to do with it!

How horrible! Tell her it's not environmentally friendly to use a drier all the time. Clothes smell so much nicer and fresher and everything lasts longer dried on the line.
