View Full Version : is there any way to ignore a whole section?
hi Smax
I tend to use the site by hitting 'new posts' a couple of times a day and having a look through to see if there is anything of interest
Is there any way I can ignore the whole Craft Robo bit? as I don't own a Robo, and there are so many posts in there nowadays it is a lot to trawl through to find the rest...
no worries if there isn't, it would just be handy

I have often thought this but I am sure someone asked previously about the cyber crop and was told no!

I've often wondered this too.
I know on the Dibb at one time you could opt in for the Big Brother/reality TV board. Maybe we could do something similar here?
Good question Sarah! It'd be good if you could.... :)

this would be handy indeed
Definitely - the robo and card making drive me  when I'm short of time browsing!

You click on the little up/down arrow on the right of the blue bar at the top of the section, and that collapses it so you don't have to see it and can pretend it isn't there.
oooh, got all excited that you might have cracked it .... but that only makes the section hide when you are looking at the page with all the sections listed - it doesn't seem to exclude posts in that section from appearing when I hit 'New Posts', which is specifically what I am after....

Bump :)
Smax any chance we can opt out of seeing the craft robo forum (or any others we don't wish to see) when using the "new Posts" function?
Thanks
You can search excluding forums but you will have to use a special URL and compose it yourself to exclude the forums you don't want.
This for example will exclude all the craft robo forums.
http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=200,201,202,203,347
just add a comma on the end and the number of the forum you want to exclude and you can roll your own.
http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=200,201,202,203,347
oooooh, SMAX, I've said this before, but I love you!!! :D
thanks very much

That's great that you can do that but *blushes* I'm afraid I still don't really understand what to do ...
each forum has a number
if you go to the main view where you can see the list of all the forum names, here: http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/index.php
and hover over a forum name, at the bottom of your screen you will see some blurb, which ends in f=nnn
eg the LoveyDoves forum says f=333 - so that forum's number is 333
so, if you find out the numbers of the forum/s you want to NOT see when you hit 'new posts', and then put them onto the end of that URL wot SMAX wrote - and then copy and paste that URL into your browser, then you will get a list of new posts in all forums except the ones you have chosen to ignore
If you make this a favourite / bookmark, and use this instead of hitting 'New Posts', then you can avoid having to trawl through lots of stuff that isn't relelvant to you
I hope that made sense :)

Makes perfect sense - but it doesn't work for me! I put the URL in fine, but as soon as I hit enter (and actually do the search) it changes to a search ID for that particular time. And in IE I can't create a bookmark for an address without being on that page IYSWIM (or if I can I don't know how ).
I have copied the URL to a text file and am copying and pasting it each time instead.
Jenny, make a bookmark of any old page, and then right click on it on your bookmark list, choose properties, and paste in SMAX's search string, that should fix it

Just wanted to pop on with my thanks to SMAX and Sarah for this - I never bothered with "New Posts" before as it was tooooo much. Now I can keep an eye on the things that do interest me. It's taken about a week of editing out the forums that I'm not interested in and the code for the bookmark is now really, really long :D but most importantly it works. And if my preferences change later (or Santa brings me a CR ) I can easily change the bookmark.
Brilliant!

I am bumping this up to the top for the moment and will edit some of the posts to condense it down to the important info without the chit chat and will then stick it.
New Posts is so useful as your first stop on UKS that blocking those forum that don't interest you at all is well worth doing!
