Jo: I thought about doing the Scrap Your Day thing, but as I don't have a colour printer I'd have to take pictures and then save them up for goodness knows how long before I could scrap them!

I love the Shimelle classes I did the christmas journal after a fashion last year, and am already preparing it for the end of this year. I will certainly have a go at this one but the kits are all sold out so I'll have to have a go with my stash.
Well done on the roll girls, I'll catch up later off out for the day.
TwinkleToes
17-04-2008, 11:04 AM
oh... we've rolled!!!
I'm sort of glad the kit was sold out! Not that keen on the papers in it!!
I'm happy to do it from stash... Have "just" the paper stack I'd like to use for it!!!
Question is.... do I try and buy the memory makers book though or not.. hmm..... (bought some 7gypsies covers at the weekend!)
CW - I would offer to print and send them to you - but after the last debarcle(!!!) else I can highly recommend the little canon sephyr printer I've got... bought at Chrsitmas as a bargain and LOVE it!!!
Can also see AGAIN why I'd like a bind-it-all

I did a set of birthday ATCs today! They're fun, aren't they? I may have to join an ATC swap at some point.
I just need to do the backs and I'm not sure what's the best way to go about it.
TwinkleToes
17-04-2008, 01:09 PM
I think you can get stamps for the backs.. or download and print a template and then ink over it?
Do we get points for ATC's??
janetlinda56
17-04-2008, 01:13 PM
Maria, is the best one to ask, I think she makes lots !
No points for ATC's

I put just as much work into my 10 ATCs as I have on a single LO, seems a shame there's no points. I understand not giving points for card making because some people make heaps and heaps to sell, but ATCs can't be sold... ah well. They're fun anyway. :)
The stamps are a good idea, but I'm trying to avoid the temptation of stamping. :(

Wow, youve all been busy chatting - lots to catch up on.
Places -I used to spend family holidays at Dawlish as a child, very close to my heart. have been back there since and have coincidentally just printed some photos of it to scrap. Love the area around Looe also, went there for a pony camp when small and entranced by the palce ever since. Also rented a cottage/log cabin thingy in the Cairngorms and spent a fantastic holiday there with our beloved dog (no longer with us but was a Bernese mountain dog). Would also like to get DH ona crusie (we should start a petition - Bijoux Belles want cruises or something). No more exotic hols these days but my brother has just moved to Singapore so thats a possibility if we save up the dosh. Meantime I at least have skiing on my doorstep in the winter (and the end of season meal to look forward to on Saturday). Have really enjoyed hearign abotu everyones favourtie places and shall look forward to seeing some scrap pages of them.
- well done on your weight loss Kay, you should be chuffed. I have had a logn campaign but was getting nowhere in the end so have given it up for a while and am now moving in the wrong direction!
-Lulu, I loved that LO and couldnt see anything I'd change.
-shimelles class, yes Id like to do it, with my own stash but am worried about how well it will work without the book. will watch for it anyway. do you have to sign up for this (or any otehr cc classes ) or do you just decide on the day and do them if they appeal? Have entered the cc bingo now too (i hope).
- atc backs - a stamp is the best thing really, thats what most people do. or make something on the pc but the most important is to write the title, edition and your name on the (undecorated) back somehow. sometimes i write a message like 'happy birthday' or 'thanks' if its for something specific.
- do we know the date of Mimah and Nics birthdays yet... I know Mimahs is soon because Kay said about the party.
-no points for atcs. there is a good and simple swap thread on Uks where you just sign up each month by 7th and send two to the person below you on the list, receiving two from the person above. its nice because you never knwo what you are going to get. From next month it will be listed in the swaps forum (its currently under 'altered art, atcs)
well thats me caught up. gotta go and do some work (i work part time from home doing admin work) but will check back later!

The thing I liked about the 7 day cruise that we went on was , another day, another counry, Spain-Vigo, Portugal-Lisbon, France- La Rochelle, Gurnsey -St. Peter Port, even if it was only for the day.

Can we see your atc's please.
Sadly, no. :) I've done them for our birthdays so I suppose I need to keep them under wraps as a surprise.
Is Mimah our first birthday?
Maria: Thanks for advice about the back. I'll look into the swapping thing as well.

So sorry I forgot to come back with Sal's birthday it's on the 25th. Her party is the 26th and she'll kill me if I've just got that wrong, but I have a bad habit of muddling it with St Georges day I don't know why. I have checked and that is correct.
Just off to do the CC sketch warm up I hadn't noticed until now.

Hi everyone - again I seem to have missed so much!
Jo - I think the scrap your day once a month is a great idea and it's something I think I'd like to do. In 20 years time, it will be interesting to look back to see what we did!
Laura - you were quick off the mark with your atc's! I have a stamp for the back and if you like I could stamp an A4 sheet with it and send it to you. You could then photocopy them and stick it on the back.
Are we making 10 identical ones or 10 different ones?.
Tracey - sorry to hear your cold hasn't gone. You need to rest and take it easy!
Lastly, are we just sending an atc for the birthday or was it a card as well, and where do we get the address from? I can't remember if there is a data base with addresses in it. I'll have to get on with mine this weekend.
Maria in France
17-04-2008, 06:55 PM
Forgot to say i hope you're feeling better Tracey, and that your cold hasnt really come back - at least it left you alone whilst you were on your trip - maybe its all those different germs...
I think we are waiting on birthdays for Mimah and Nic. If we are sending things (cards or atcs) then dont forget i need more notice than you guys cos of beign over here. also we presumably need a giant pm session exchanging addresses unless anyone has a better way - Tracey mentioned a spreadsheet.
Yes Janet, that sounds attractive but its the food thats really attracting me. My parents are on a cruise at this moment for 7 days, on the suez canal. My father is in poor health (Parkinsons and now Cancer too) and so this is one of the ways they can still get around - travel has always been their big hobby.
Maria in France
17-04-2008, 06:59 PM
sorry, cross posted.
i am going to make a diff atc each time I think. I think a card with an atc inside sounds good and will make no diff to the postage etc, but dont want to be bossy, what does everyone else think?

Evening all... home in daylight! What a novelty!!
Tracey I'll send you my address, then I just need to work out what to do for an ATC.... *eek*
Another question - do we get extra points or any points for using the weekly font?
I'm hoping to have a play with Laura's recipe book idea tongiht...
AND if I can my silhouette! It's still in the box MUST get it out!!!

Mine is too Jo, isn't it awful
CelestialWillow
17-04-2008, 08:45 PM
Jo: Weekly font is 5 points each time you use it. You can use any from the current or previous month.
Susi: I may do the backs as I go along, so I'll be OK. But thank you for the suggestion! I shall probably give in to the pressure and invest in a suitably sized journalling stamp.
I've done 10 matching ATCs as I wanted to try my hand at a set.
Maria: I'm happy to do card and ATC - but the card will probably be bought rather than hand made. :)
Tracey: I'll pm you my address, but really you should be in bed if you're under the weather.

Have a nice time Laura, and a nice snuggle up Tracey.
re cards, well i certainly dont think anybody should feel they have to even send one and it really wouldnt matter what sort it was, ie home made or bought - as Janet said, its the thought that counts.
ive got to ask though.... why sarah jane?

I've sent you a pm Tracey and really hope you feel better soon.
I think I'd better go and start my ATC's its been a while since I've made any, I think I'll go for a set but it depends on supplys really.

I've done one of the cyber crop sketches. I did a digi and I'm not happy with it, so I've put it HERE (http://pics.livejournal.com/celestialwillow/pic/001xzx81/)in my own gallery, rather than up on UKS.
Maria: I named my laptop after Sarah Jane Smith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Jane_Smith) from Doctor Who.

I really like the layout, I don't know why you are not happy with it and I'm loving the way everyone is using circles. I think they are going to be my new best friend.
Does anyone else give their laptop a name? Mines just laptop! Maybe I will think of something to call it. My craft robo is called robo cop (like nearly everyone elses).
I've made my first card with my Tilda stamps tonight. I would upload it, but dd isn't here tonight and I can't do it. She has showed me enough times but I still get it wrong. How will I manage when she goes to Uni?

Laura, I like the LO too... think the colours work really well...
and hmm... must have a think about circles...
My laptop is just "my laptop" although I'm a techy have to admit I'm not that attached to it... my CAR now that's a different matter!! Looking to change it soon and finding it VERY difficult!!
Guess I should do a LO of my baby... and I'll keep in suspense until then hee hee hee :)
I've had a nice couple of hours playing...
I've covered the back and front of my recipe book and now MUST get the silhouette out to sort out the "recipe" lettering for the front, so guess that'll be over the weekend! once done you can see it (will still need embellishing etc)
Next it's pages, recipe sheets and tags for the insides with a few pics when available!
Colour scheme is a paper pack (http://www.scrapbookshop.co.uk/acatalog/info_DCDP08.html) i fell in love with and bought months ago... with a contrast of bright red...
Have to say it's coming together EXACTLY as I saw it in my head - which is a bit worrying! Hoping it will be a great learning experience and am enjoying it!
As a thought do the front and back, and all the other pages for that matter count as LO's? They're 8x8 so guessing they will.....
Hope you feel better tomorrow Tracey!
Night all!

Hi all so sorry not to have been on, havent managed to get on the laptop in the evening as DD1 is doing assignments for Uni and DD2 is on the desktop. Also I think I have been out every evening and busy all weekend - cant really remember except Sunday when I was with Kay and friends at Ally Pally and met Susi - which was lovely, so nice to put a face to a name.
I seem to have missed so much and have quickly scanned some of it but will either get Kay to give me a nudge in the right direction over things and fill me in or try and read it tomorrow (I think I have got a night in!!) Did pick up about the birthdays so will pm Tracy.
Hope you are feeling better Tracy. My DD1 has come down with a bug and I really cant afford to get it as I am having some tests in hospital next week and really dont want to delay things.
I have managed to get more LO done as I am trying to get my scrapbooks together for my party next week. One of me through the years (some pics are rather scary!!) and I have finally finished my sky dive album (after 18 months) so am quite pleased. I did a photo board last year for DHs birthday and it went down well, so thought I ought to get myself organised for my own as dont think DH or DDS will do anything like that!
Anyway less of my waffling on. I hope you have a good day tomorrow and I will chat hopefully tomorrow evening.
xx

Hi all, Hope you're feeling better Tracey,
- loved the link to Sarah Jane from Dr Who (she came after my Doctor Who period)
-what is a silhouette then?
- really enjoyed looking at other peoples work, think posting the links in here is a great way to do it and as someone said, its nice to ahev soem feedback too. I liked them all - couldnt see what was not to like about Lauras tasteful digilayout. Janet, I liked your weekly challenge and Susi i reallly loved the purple flowers on yours - how did you do those? Kay, was the pink stamped too or was it already on the paper with jsut the black stamping added.
I think sketches are the way forward for me, they take me half the time to do if Ive got a sketch.
sounds like youve got a busy weekend of brickdust ahead Janet! gotta go and plant on some little mini plug plants that have just arrived (for my tubs) then i am hoping to finish a folding out mini-book I started ages ago and got stuck with.
I must also get on with that nice recipe idea, i was so keen on it but have done absolutely nothing about it.
janetlinda56
18-04-2008, 02:28 PM
Talking of recipes, do you know how to make "flan" Maria, its something DHand I always have when we come to France, the only way to descibe it is egg custard tart but heavier ?
susibee
18-04-2008, 02:54 PM
Maria, the flowers, basket and leaves were all cut with my Craft Robo and coloured using H2O's. Good luck with your mini book. I am going to my crop tomorrow and no idea what to take. If I could think what to do for my atc's I could make them but it takes me ages to come up with the right idea.
A silhouette is like a craft robo.
It's cold here too, and I put the heating on as soon as I got in from work.
Maria in France
18-04-2008, 02:54 PM
yes Janet, what they call 'flan' is actually called creme caramel in the Uk. you can buy a pakcet mix to make it and its easy and delicious (but have no idea how to make it without the packet mix).
I often choose it as a dessert in restaurants because it slips down so easily, even if you are full
Maria in France
18-04-2008, 02:56 PM
which does everyone think is better craft robo or silhouette? (ive only got a sizzix sidekick) and, at risk of labouring the point, what the heck are H20s?
Teaghen
18-04-2008, 03:43 PM
which does everyone think is better craft robo or silhouette? (ive only got a sizzix sidekick) and, at risk of labouring the point, what the heck are H20s?
The silhouette is just a rebadged craft robo, so they are basically the same machine, the craft robo is supposed to have better support but the silhouette allows you to buy and download templates from the quickutz website, as far as I can tell they are much of a muchness IFYWIM i went for the silhouette as i really like a lot of the quickutz designs.
H2o's are scrummy twinkly paints there is a video on using them here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Tfs161xLXU)
Maria in France
18-04-2008, 04:00 PM
Oh thankyou so much for that Tracey, people are so nice and helpful here. I jsut went and watched the video and they do indeed look delicious, such lovely colours. something else to go on the wish list i guess!
thanks for the info about the machines too. My mum has a cuttlebug and swears by that but i msut say i find the sizzix sidekick a bit of a pain and hardly use it, so am loathe to buy something else like it but am considering all options. The dies seem expensive too for the cuttlebug and sizzix.
Teaghen
18-04-2008, 04:06 PM
Never tired the cuttlebug, but do have a few cuttlebug embossing folders which are brilliant :) I have a big shot, a sizzix, a tag-a-long and a quickutz squeeze as well as my new silhouette which is still in the box . Love my Big shot the best as it can cut chipboard, but sure the silhouette will be fantastic when I eventually unpack it :D:D
TwinkleToes

Maria, I agree with the cost of the cuttlebug... I bought one, two weeks later I bought the silhouette and sold the cuttlebug (thanks susi :o) )
I think the cuttlebug is great if you do embossing (i don't), but not so good if you like alphabets (I do!!)
BUT mine is still in the box and I MUST get it out as it needs to cut out "recipe" for my recipe book!!
Right - I'be had enough this week and just told my boss I'm off home in a mo early!!
A nice run, a coffee at the gym, them chips and gardener's world... perfect!!

evening all what some lovely work you have been doing - I always find it amazing that we all do such different work with essentially the same basic products. It really is great to see what you all do.
Hope you are feeling better Tracey.
The flan sounds lovely - is there a low calorie version?? Kay keeps a close eye on me at the moment with regard to what I eat so that we continue to lose weight together... she is doing so well but I do have the odd weak moment or two!
I have done another LO tonight and will try and upload it. I have got a scrapbook to finish pulling together for my party next weekend, instead of doing a photoboard like I did for DHs birthday last year. Only about six more pages to do...
I also have three leaving cards to do - seems to be the time for people moving to new pastures but have now got a reputation for doing the leaving cards and its difficult trying to come up with new ideas for each one, still, I always did like a challenge. There are also the birthday cards/ATCs to do to... In actual fact my list could go on and on. Does anyone else have the same problem??
Hope you all have a great weekend. I am off to see my aunt near Worcester tomorrow for the day but am planning on playing for majority of Sunday.

18-04-2008, 11:19 PM
Yes Sally, I have the same problem. Lots of Unfinished Objects, more ideas than any sane person could scrapbook, loads of techniques i want to try plus things like cards and atcs and challenges. DH wonders when i am going to 'come and sit down' but how can you sit watching boring telly when there is all this to do?
Janet, I thought your ribbons layout was absolutely marvellous. very well done, you must be pleased with it. I enjoyed the flan one too, because i could see what you looked like, which wasnt how i imagined.
I too am really enjoying seeing peoples work and it is also rather nice doing it and knowing that a fellow crafter may see it - makes you try that little bit harder i think. I look forward to seeing yours when its uploaded Sally.
have a nice wewekend everyone... its our ski club 'end of season meal' tomorrow night, which usually goes on until the next morning! I rarely go out in the evenings these days so it will make a nice change.

Hi everyone
How are you all today. I'm just back from lunch out with some friends, wasn't really feeling up to it but glad I went as DH took me to The papershop and I got a few goodies :) I got the DCWV Rockstar & All Dressed Up pads, The Basic Grey two scoops 6x6 pad and a box of card, so not a bad trip at all
Maria in France
19-04-2008, 06:05 PM
Wow Tracey, you sound like you've got a similar paper addiction to me! I hope you are feeling truly better. Bet the paper helps. I think 6x6 paper pads are so great because i never want to tear into my 12 x 12 for say a card, or as accent paper.
Ive been gardening again (yawn yawn, but a necessity in a garden this size ) but I did manage to make the two cards I had to do last night and am unusually pleased with one of them. Read my book for a while in the garden during a sunny spell - Its a Michael Crichton thriller called 'Next' and Im really enjoying it (I raid the charity shops for paperbacks when i am in the Uk because obviously i cant get english books easily here - in March i came back with a good haul).
Now Im off out to the ski club end of season meal which will go on all night. Unfortunately Ive got to go up to the village first thing in the morning too! I may have a sore head tomorrow.
Ive getting stuff together for my next layout, its going to be a page of a renovation project that i had help with from both my uncles . The photos are very 'ordinary' though, so I shall have to jazz it up somehow. It needs manly embellishments too which I never find easy.

Hi all,
Tracey you sound to have had a good stash buying day! and Maria, how I envy you your garden. My dh and me would love to move to France like you but we are waiting for the children to leave home! Enjoy your night out.
I've been to my crop today and managed to make 4 atc's and that's about all!
Tracey, I think you must be in the same cc team as Cassie who organises our crop!
We are going to Ikea tonight to get my dd and new bed etc. We went in last night to look and I came back and looked on the internet to see how much mattresses were and saw that today only they've got 21% off everything in store, so we might as well save a few pounds.

Evening All!
Just had to smile Susi... We've done Ikea today too... TWICE... (read on...)
Well up at a sensible time after our compulsory lie in (for that read..snuggle and watch Saturday morning kitchen!)
Off to Derby for a Train show (OH forgot I'm there tomorrow for a 10k Grrr!), then across to Bridgemere garden centre (can you see a weekend theme here for us!?)... then back down the M6 to Ikea Wednesbury (waving to my parents on the way)...
Surprising got most thing we wanted (and some we didn't!) apart from some large IVAR shelves... so via Coventry Ikea on the way back... they had one shelf and a box!! then realised time was now nearly 10pm... (wondered why we were hungry, no way I wanted to cook when home so off to takeout Pizza Hut (can use the excuse of carb loading for race tomorrow :) )... and literally just home and unpacked car...
Where did the day go!!
Up early tomorrow to get to derby for a 9.30 race!! Rediculously early time for a 10k, but hey at least I should be back for lunch time..
Anyone know any decent scrappy shops between warwick and Derby, eg lichfield etc?
right.. off to catch up now!!

Ikea was manic - I have never seen it so busy. We got my dd's bed, quilt and lights but no duvet or anything else. It was worth queueing for over half an hour to save £80 or so. We got in the worst queue ever. The young men 2 in front of us didn't have a credit card that would be accepted, so they had to go with the manager, the people right in front of us were paying cash, except it was card only till so they got carted off and when it was finally our turn, the bed was in 3 boxes but the cashier didn't know how to put that through!
I have managed to do another 2 atc's tonight - it would have been muh quicker to do 10 the same but hey ho!
Have a good race Jo - I couldn't run 100 metres, never mind 10km! I'm looking forward to monday, fingers crossed!

morning all
Had a lovely day with my aunt yesterday and didnt get back until nearly 11.30pm. Had a lovely walk round Worcester but then a really good catch up back at home whilst the rain came down outside!
Into my room today to work on my list so hopefully will report back later on progress. Kay is coming to join me this morning which is great as she keeps focussed - after we have caught up on everything!!
DD1 has two assignments to finish today but hopefully will let me have the laptop back this evening so I can come on and chat some more.
Sounds like there have been some great shopping trips. I love ikea but craft shops need to be done when DH not around as he cannot understand taking so long to look in just one shop although handy if he offers to pay!
Good luck with your 10k run Jo. I have only done one 10k (with Kay)and that was too many but it was in the name of charity so managed it in 91 mins - not bad considering I dont really do that much exercise
Good luck with your search for sewing machine software Janet hope you find what you are looking for.

oh er, bit hungover after last night.
As usual, enjoyed the meal with skiing freinds at the club . Didnt get in until 2am (extrememly rare for us to even go out in the evening these days, never mind until that time) and had to get up early this am to go to the village churchat 9am -its a tiny church and hardly ever has any services and this was a special one to celebrate the electrification of the bells (previously a chap actually went and rang them each day at midday)and the (dont laugh) repainting of the virgin (statue). Some local VIPs had been invited and as i am on the council our mayor asked us all to be present. I am not religious but it was quite a pretty service, attended by all the village. This was followed by a 'glass of friendship' over in the village hall, and before i knew it it was 1pm again! lunch and a sleep and thats most of my Sunday gone.
good luck with the run Jo. well done for even trying. Im off to try to finish my layout.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around today I had an awful night last night so have spent most of today in bed, don't really know what happened I went to bed as normal then got really bad stomach and back pains. I was then really sick but this only made the pain worse, pain eventually settled in my chest and I was struggling to breath, I have to say it is the worst pain I have ever felt in my life, including worse than childbirth  DH wanted me to go to hospital but I didn't want to go. The pain eventually eased enough to sleep around 6am. I think now it must have been indegestion but I had no idea this could be so painful having never suffered before.
Sorry i haven't sent our Sallys addy, I was waiting to try to get the spreadsheet completed but I will send it now.

CW How was Bristol?
Jo Well done on the run - vowed never to do it again myself, shin splints way to painful but really admire all those that do.
Janet Really pretty ribbon Lo for your boys, and the Koblenz one reminds me of several morning-after-the-night-befores!
Susi Your LOs of your folks are lovely, and well done learning the uploads, I'm still dabbling and missing several!
Sal My list of To Dos just gets longer and longer too - even worse since I joined UKS and met you guys! So many ideas but no time to nail them all!
Maria Your village life and garden sound fab - I hanker after similar but will have to wait years now with babes to raise! I made my bed as the saying goes.....
Had a wonderful time at DH's BF wedding on Fri - DS was an absolute angel but have masses to scrap now and want to make the happy couple a star book like the one in SI this month. Will be going to a motorcycle track day with DH this week so think the camera will be out again there too.

21-04-2008, 10:07 AM
Aww Tracey, that sounds really frightening as well as painful. If it recurrs i think you really ought to go to the doc. I did have a similar thing once and did go to casualty because the pain was so bad but like yours, it eventually subsided and a battery of tests proved nothing the matter except possible IBS which i might have, but have never been convinced about. Anyway, I reckon Jo is right, echninacea might be worth a go - my mum swears by it and never seems to get coughs or colds or tummy bugs. Either that or maybe a particularly nasty virus that has given you this recurrent cold and now this?
Lulu, I made a star book a while back, it was not the easiest thing but agree it looks fantastic when done. I was very pleased with the finished item, well worth the effort. When you cut/glue the edges, get them as accurate and lined up as you can cos thats what makes it stand up straight (this is the voice of experience).
What is the birthhday swap then janet? do tell us about it and how it works.
national scrapbook day, er, no thoughts currently but up for doing something if everyone wants to. its right on top of the cc though I think.
regarding the cc, they seem to have stopped putting the daily challenges up-I keep checking the page and it stops at the sketch which was last Tuesday.Am I missing something?
I think the shimelle class thing comes up today too, that someone on here was talking about, so will go and see if i can get that, i fancy that.
regarding my layout, yes Kay, that is exactly waht has happened and i have picked those photos out of the pile time and time again and not scrapped them and so I vowed not to get any more printed until i had scapped my existing pile a bit . So there might be some more less than perfect shots come up too, but its all part of the story i suppose, like susi said. I found last weeks font very good (grutch shaded) and i never usually like them.
Laura, I hope you had a nice time at your parents, we missed you.
dont forget girls, its voting this week for the monthly challenge. It was hard to choose but i really do beleive this sort of stuff is what drives us to produce better pages!
sorry all my posts are so long, i havent got the hang of brevity - never have had.

Maria, the birthday swap works much the same as the advent one, you need to sign up, them the host sends you the name and address of the person you sent a present to, normallyy to the value of £10.00 plus a hand made card. You have to check out their likes and dislikes so that you know what to buy and you keep it a secret untill you sent the present.

Lol I know nothing about card either Maria, it's a Hyundai Santa Fe, I just liked it beacause it is roomy, Brodie is 6ft 2 and he struggles with legroom in a lot of cars, but this one will be great, specially when we are taking him to football with all his gear, will be great for Boo too:)

Tracey, glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Nice car. We are on our third Hyundai and they've never been any trouble.

susi, yes, i downloaded the pdf called 'getting ready' which you can find
herehttp://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=219697
the first bit is for if youve got the kit (i havent) but she says to read it and it gives you a good indication of what you are aiming for. then she talks about making your own. I am using a ribbon bound album to which i have added a couple of pages to make 12. it does sound as if she wants us to make the book first, then on wednesday there are more instructions coming, then Friday we take the photos. In my case if i make the book first there is far more chance of me finishing it.
Janet, you speak more French than i do!!!
Tracey, how do you pronounce 'Teaghen'. I seem to recall it is the name of one of your children, and I dont want to keep saying it wrong!

Afternoon guys... Weekly a$$ kicking in Oxford over.. back in redditch now.. yawn....
Glad you're feeling better Tracey...
as for Cars - I'm a little biased.. being an engineer in automotive.. gives me a tendancy towards being a petrol head :)
I bought papers for my SHimelle Class yesterday... and will probably go for a "ringed" book.. just need to work out what or how....
Has anyone else got "simple scrapbooks" for May/June? I got in Borders at the weekend.. and it has a lovely template for a book that might seem ideal and in an unusual shape.. I'll trya and get an image scanned and show you... but think the silhouette may have a use for it! Else a standard rectangle will be fine!! Friday could be a fun day! the first "25th"... :)

Sorry didn't get in here yesterday and flying visit now before work tonight too. Sal and I are doing the Shimelle class from the CC too. We spent some great time together yesterday setting the whole thing up out of bazzill and patterned papers with mountboard.
I have the Simple scrabooks on subscription and got it for Sal for Xmas too so I know just what you mean, it's easy to do our way too though.
Tracey I hope you're feeling better and of course everyone is here for you 100% we all have off days but some have one or two more than others. It all depends what you want a car for.. if you're buying new or second hand.. how long you're going to keep it for.... if you're bothered about depreciation...... what kind of spec you like.. if you're blingy or boring... if you like toys or just 4 wheels....
So give me some pointers and I'll let you know my thoughts.....
Be warned I can get dweeby when it comes to cars.. if I start to see a glazed expression I'll shut up!

oh thats easy for me....
I want to buy it secondhand, I want it to be very reliable and last ages, like 10 or 15 years (obviously it would need new parts in the meantime which i wouldnt mind as long as it kept going), be economical to run. I prefer small to big. Oh and one BIG thing, I can only drive automatic so it has to come in automatic. I dont do many miles but quite a few short trips.
mostly I just want it be reliable and to not cost me money or need replacing.
so whats my ideal car then in your opinion Jo ? sorry if this sounds like an interrogation. I am smiling but dont know how to do the smiley thing in the post. Id love any ideas, even what to avoid if you dont want to recommend anything.

Kay/Jo is Simple Scrapbooks an American mag? I haven't seen that one. I had a copy of Scrapbook Trends which I enjoyed and wouldn't mind that on subscription. Perhaps I ought to drop a few hints to dh for my birthday!!

Maria...
I'd look at something like a clio.... especially as you're in France.. advantage that as it's a renault, and useless trim will have fallen off in the first 12 months... small, but folding seats so no issues there... spares readily available and cheap..... and dependant on the mileage would last a while... also an auto is possible... and (I hate to say) only likely to have been owned by a woman with limited mileage requirements so not a lot of wear and tear....
Insurance sensible too.... how's that?
TwinkleToes
22-04-2008, 11:30 PM
Susi - yes it is an american mag... has layout inspirations and ideas.. and an insight into the wonderful papers available in the states...
Kay - have to admit I'm thinking about a subscription as the price is unbeleiveable cheap in comparison to the Borders price... so think that'll happen next month!

Thats great advice Jo thanks. current car is a peugeot 106, so not dissimilar.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to give an opinion though - said 106 is 15 years old and on its last legs, so could be looking at replacement this year. Clio is likely to be available here, as you say - although automatics are very rare here!
will have a look at simple scrapbooks too, it sounds good. i currently get Scrapbook Inspirations on subscription but it has got so 'samey' and is full of adverts. no more free gifts either, and when there is one they wont send it to me here and cant be bothered to answer an email about it. I cant enter any of the comps because they are Uk only, so would be no worse off with an American one. My mum gets 'craft stamper' on subs and she reckons thats excellent.
clio keeps appearing on watchdog with a problem about bonnet flying open - is this just scaremongering, or maybe one particualr model/type in your opinion.

Hello all, hope you've had a nice few days. Haven't had much of a chance to read through things and catch up. I'll do the rounds of your galleries later.
So, my Dad and I have start planning our American road trip. We provisionally booked a few overnight stays. After a couple of nights in Vegas (probably at Circus, Circus as it's the cheapest on-strip hotel) we'll be going to Grand Canyon North Rim and staying in a cabin at Jacob Lake Inn (http://www.jacoblake.com/). Some of the reviews are a little negative, but they seem to come from people who are expecting large cabins that are hotel-like. We're not expecting that, so it should be OK. We would have stayed at the Hotel on the North Rim, but they're full that day, so choices are limited anyway.
Next night we'll be at Grand Canyon South Rim. Again there weren't many options left when we came to book, so we're in the non-aircon (oh dear) Maswik Lodge (http://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/maswik-north-south-698__78.html), in the tinier South side. Still, each of these places will only be stayed in for a night, so I'm planning on just dealing with whatever is thrown at me!
The next night we'll be on the road to Albuquerque. We're staying one night in Holbrook at the Wigwam Motel (http://www.wigwammotel.com/cozyconemotel), which was used as the model for the Cozy Cone Motel in the movie Carz! CUTE!
We've not booked anything after the Albuquerque stop, although my Dad is tempted to end the trip, which will be a night back in Vegas, at Hooters Hotel (http://www.hchvegas.com), which amuses him greatly!
All my assignments are now in, so I have some days of breathing space before the next batch (archaeology) arrives, so I'm going to finish off the weekly LO.

Hi
I have just spent the past hour(ish) catching up on everything on here, I have been a) unable to get on laptop at DD1 is getting her assignments finished as they need handing in this week and b) had to have some tests at hospital yesterday (results on two weeks) but had to do preparation prior to them. Kay (who is such a brill bestist mate) never realised I was such a wuss at taking disgusting tasting drinks!! but thanks to her I got a good on my report for my preparation!!
Tracey - sorry to hear you have been poorly but really hope you are feeling much better now.
Maria - I have a Peugeot 206 now but had a 106 (until DD1 passed her test in Dec!) and have found them both really reliable and economical. DH works for a Peugeot garage and says that the 206 especially really holds its value.
Laura - that is an amazing sounding holiday you are planning with your dad = lots of scrapbook pages/mini books to follow....
Kay and I have both got the Shimelle 25th day book ready. We have made our own and will be using our new BIAs as soon as they arrive!!
I have also done the ATCs and only have two pages left to finish my scrapbook ready for Saturday.
Sorry for the long posting will try and keep them much shorter in future:wub:
Take care all and have a good day

Maria, I have to admit I hadn't heard that issue - but there are always issues with new cars (especially new models - hence I'm always busy!)...
That's the advantage of buying an oldermodel - they're normally already sorted out in the warranty period!! Smart an issue when they launched a model...whereby their rear window kept shattering when cold... Mondeo had a problem with breaking.... a peugeot 306 I had years ago had issues with overheating... there are always issues..... just some companies are better at dealing with them than others :o)
I'd steer away from the latest 206's as they are not necessarily built to last 15 years now (i.e. on MINI we only have to supply parts for 10 years service), clio's have a better rep... and hold their value even better than the Peugeots... (depends on the models)......but in France this may be different......
As for magazines... I've ot been very inspired by any of the UK Mags (funny it's the same with knitting - all the decent ones come from the states!)....
I've had a look at the craft stamper one(ormaybe that was another one - if was american AGAIN!!), and agin full of inspiration, but more for cards and altering when I've looked so not for me - but some lovely stuff in it!!
CW - your trip sound superb!!
Mimah - where did you get your BIA from? I've been looking around and am thinking of getting one from the states at the mo as the prices and packages are better!! seems to be a pricing monopoly here in the UK!!
susibee
23-04-2008, 02:46 PM
At the risk of sounding stupid, what is a BIA?
Laura your holiday sounds fab, I bet you can't wait!
Sal, don't worry about the long emails, it's all very interesting and helps us all to get to know each other.
I've had Craft Stamper for years - at one time it was the only stamping mag about but since all the other card making mags have appeared, I think it's gone down hill. American mags are far and away superior to ours.
I should be at work today, but I have got the worst cold I've had for ages, and just feel like sleeping at the mo. Talk about feeling lazy (and guilty). I am going to have some soup, hope you all have a good day.

Susi,
BIA is a bind it all.
the cheapest ive seen them in the uk is £39.99 , somewhere that sounded like 'graficus' or 'graphicus' perhaps.
Tracey, do they know how much the slice is going to be yet?
I reckon shimelles class will be good anyway, but even more fun for us as a few of us seem to be doing it. ive got my book ready to go now, its a ribbon bound book, but not very big. will have to size down the photos accordingly.
cant beleive our luck having a car expert in our midst!

No idea how much the slice will be yet, I did here someone say about $160 but that might just be gossip. My take on this weeks challenge is here (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=158230&cat=500).
I think my laptop just died, it's making odd noises and has turned blue. :(
I need to invest in a cutting machine of some sort. Hand cutting alphabets is getting annoying! I need something that won't cost me a fortune in additional dies, though.

23-04-2008, 06:53 PM
Ahh Susi, I bet you would want a slice if you saw one. they look like really neat cutting machines that work off memory cards rahter than dies. you use a glass cutting mat under it and its electronic. I bet you would want one!
Laura, I am needing to buy a machine too, but the dies seem expensive, well the alphabets anyway, and i dont find my sizzix sidekick cuts all that well at all. I am drawn to this slice, but not its pricetag. I like the idea of cutting any letter at any size too - with the machines you are held to the size of the alpha.
DH might be able to be persuaded to buy me a BIA for my birthday perhaps. I always think i might not use it but I am always making little books and stuff and it would be great for calendars too.
loved your layouts Laura... why is it called squee? or is that a placename? and I was impressed that you had stamped for the weekly challenge because you said you wouldnt stamp!
Janet, I know what you mean about feeling marooned without the computer, i just cant cope with that.
Have downloaded the latest shimelle sheet but am not sure that a photo of my alarm clock is going to be all that interesting or different ANY month! Have put my camera battery on to charge anyway as per her instructions.
Have finished my weekly challenge except for the journalling and I am waiting for someone in my family to remember the name of the place where we all went to this huge wedding. I will post it when I have done it, meantime have emailed the wedding couple (who will think me bonkers) for the details.

Tracey - DH's new car - have I missed it?
As for the beetle.. hmm.. I used to love the old one, not keen on the new one.. hated the old one.. love the current one...
The problem with the beetle is they haven't updated it lot since they launched it 10(?) years ago..... it's what we term a "hairdressers" car.... aimed at a particular market that are more bothered about it's "prettiness" than what it's capable of.... or any issues that may arise...
BUT because of this they aren't that good on residual value (wacky colours that are fashionable today arent so fashionable tomorrow!) and can also cause problems for spares as everything has to be especially sprayed to match you're not likley to get one at a scrap yard!!
So you have the opportunity to grab a decent market in the secondhand deals.. BUT with the launch of the fiat 500 (especially it's price!) is likely to pull people away again from the beetle... so potentially more issues there....
Right off to fat class in a bit - I'd better have lost this week!!!

Cars are a black art to me but thankfully DH is pretty good and I have a VW Corrado that we're keeping for posterity - it landed on the Top Gear cool wall as super cool I think! B)Oh Laura, it's a purpley blackberry colour so we call her Bramble!
As for the conversation about slices etc, do your machines do what my Cricut does, but maybe for much less money? The different carts are all so expensive! DH is off to USA in June so hope he might bring a couple home for me...
Am going to try an ATC tomorrow, day at home chilling after day at trackside today - DH likes to ride his bike off the road but still as quick as he can so we all go to watch, take a picnic and make a day of it.
Take care folks, catch you later:rolleyes:

Mimah - where did you get your BIA from? I've been looking around and am thinking of getting one from the states at the mo as the prices and packages are better!! seems to be a pricing monopoly here in the UK!!
Kay and I have got them from www.graphicus.co.uk. They are £39.99 +p&p (£3.50) but as we ordered them together it only cost one lot of p&p.
Hope this helps but please dont tell me if you find them lots cheaper! the usual price is £49.99.
However, when you are looking around if you find a "round it all" I am looking for one of those. It is a new toy from Zutter and rounds chipboard and heavier cardstock than the normal little corner rounders, I know it has only just come out in the States but when I asked at Ally Pally no one had received any details.

Hi me again
DD1 took her laptop to her friends last night so couldnt get on and have had to resort to our main computer which is a nightmare as it is so slow and it keeps deciding that I dont want to read the forums by just shutting them down!! extremely frustrating:rolleyes:
I lost 1/2 lb last night so am still on the downward trend - well done to Kay and Jo for their losses.
Janet hope your MIL is ok and that you are too (((hugs)))
Susi hope you are feeling better today
hope everyone else ok and have a good day and not get too wet!! Kay is coming to play today so hopefully will take some more photos and upload some more bits as soon as DD1 gets back with her laptop
I feel much more human today, so much so that I have already cleaned out the understairs cupboard (bit scary at 7.45 in the morning!!)

Laptop has definitely died, her hard drive has given up. John is going to try and fix her tonight. I hope I don't lose everything that's saved on her. :(

Hi all
Well done Sal on your weight loss too.
I am feeling a bit better today, thank you for asking. My sore throat has gone and been replaced by a cough. I'm going to have another lazy day today so I can get back to work tomorrow.
The weather here is okay at the mo, it was pouring down about half an hour ago but the sun has come out, so I hope it stays out long enough to dry my washing.
Enjoy your day everyone.

Have to admit it's making me want a BIA even more!!! but might just be Crop-a-dile play time, big eyelets and ribbon instead for now....

Thanks for the link Mimah... Cheapest I'd found it was £41... but will have another mooch... haven't seen the other toy though!

Mine too, I've had a lazy hour browsing it. It makes me realise I have a long way to go and alot to learn. I love Jane Deans work, it's so quirky and fun.

I'm okay Janet, how are you and how is your MIL?
I have just been reading the instructions for the Scrap your Day challenge and I was going to do a 6" x 6" book but it says to take 20 photos - well, I'd never fit 20 on a page so now I'm having a re-think. Do I do 6" x 12" or do I do normal 12" pages? I'm in a quandry.
Who else is doing this challenge?

Hi all, been tied up all day giving the hosue a major clean (we had people coming to dinner which always sends me into a tailspin). all went well.
Glad you're feeling better Susi, and sorry to read about your MIL Janet and your laptop Laura. So Tracey, did the new car come and is it nice?
Im doing the shimelle thing too and have the same concernes as you Susi -I made a ribbon book whcih is about 5 inches high by 9 inches long and cant see how I am going to get more than a couple of photos on each double spread. hard to say but she is telling us in those instructions to stand fruther away, so the picture will be smaller, or at least the thing we are photographing will be smaller and I reckon there will be alot of cropping involved. I mean her own kit book is only 6 x 12 and she does say it didnt matter what size it was. If mine turns out to be ridiculously small i shall have to think again.
I didnt think i was going to be doing anything remotely interesting tomorrow but now two thigns haev come up, although i doubt if i'll have the nerve to get my camera out on the second thing. As far as I can see Kay, Sally, Susi and I are definitely doing the challenge and I think Tracey and Laura might be as well. Dont recall Jo, Janet or Lulu saying they were.
tracey, when you say we are doing well on points, waht is considered a good score, and how many do we have so far? also when it says they want proof it you ahev doen more than 39 layouts, well do they mean each person or as a group. I mean we must have done that easily as a group.

Maria, if Shimelle's book is 6" x 12", that is in effect one 12" canvas if you use 2 pages. Even so, that isn't alot of room for 20 photos is it? Like you said, we are supposed to have some of the background left in our photos, so we won't even be able to crop them too much apart from the obvious ones like the alarm clock or cup of coffee. I can see what's going to happen with me, I'll start off small, then get half way through and decide to make it into full size layouts and take as many pages as it takes!
My day isn't going to be exciting - 5 hours ironing, making shepherds pie for tea, out in the evening for coffee with my husband and dog walking! Never mind.
I suppose what ever the size we use for the Lo we'll still be able to count the points won't we?
Did you have french people over for dinner Maria? It's funny how we feel the need to clean when we have visitors!

Hi Sal and I are all set up for Shimelle's class tomorrow. We have really followed the kit lines she had for sale. We built our own 6x12 pages out of bazzill and patterned papers. It's easy and from reading yesterdays photo prompt I think we'll be cropping the 20 pics quite heavily unless I've misinterpreted it.(wouldn't be surprised at that).
I'm having lunch with the birthday girl tomorrow so that'll be good for the pictures too. I know she is chuffed to bits with the team envelopes that have been arriving in the post girls, but she's being extremely good and waiting for tomorrrow to open them up.
Did I miss a post somewhere along the line I haven't a clue when the rest of the birthdays are?
Another of our friends (Shirley) has a LO in SI this month I thought it looked great when I was scanning through Sal's copy today, hope you all like it too.

Hi Kay
I've just seen your friend's LO. When I first looked through the mag I thought how neat her writing was and loved the sewing. Is she just a normal reader or is she on the magazine team?

i never get my SI until eons after everyone else but I will look out for it.
Susi, I see Jo is doing the class too, so thats nearly all of us actually. Glad Sal is chuffed Kay, she is the 'guinea pig' so to speak. No, you havent missed anything Kay, at least I dont hink so.. tracey is doing a spreadsheet and will let us all know in due course. You are next up I think anwyay, unless Nic turns out to be before you.
gosh i hope this shimelle book Ive made is going to work...i spent ages decorating it. Not sure what we count it as - a Layout ? or maybe its a minibook but not until its finished? I havent counted my decorated but empty book as anything yet. I expect I will pritn the photos smaller, my goodness they will have to be minute if I am going to get 20 in! I am sure it will all become clear.
I will be checking intothe cc but not until sat am. Not sure the maire will apprecaite me snapping shots of his 'inaugral' speech tomorrow night! Happy Snapping Everybody.

oops, forgot to say, do let us know how the cj goes Jo, and well done for joining it. Did you go out planning to buy a BIA or did it just happen!
and no, it was English people I had to dinner - friends of ours staying nearby (but not with us). frankly its a good job someone comes to dinner every now and then or the house would be a real tip.

Maria you're a girl after my own heart...housework comes SOOOOO low down my list of priorities (except the hygiene aspects of course) but what's a bit of dust...
I've been tackling the star book tonight, thus the late finish. Have also signed up for the '25th' challenge with Shimelle but not entirely sure what I'm meant to be doing! Asking BF to make book out of my own stash with me next time I see her.
I'll keep it brief as going away again today (Fri) for the weekend but before I go, let me be the 1st (online anyway) to wish Sal a very Happy Birthday today, have a lovely day Sal and my ATC will follow soon I promise.
Have a good weekend everyone, speak to you again Monday.

I'll see you later Sal.
Susi Shirl was asked to do that LO for SI from work that had been seen on here and is being paid for it! She's chuffed and we are for her. She is a very talented lady and deserves the recognition, so it's a real treat all round.
I've taken three of the Shimelle shots for the start of the 25th need to get up now and do a bit more!

think its rather nice that so many of us are doing the scrap your day thing and also nice that we have someone whose birthdya is on 25th (I see Jo is also a 25ther).
Lulu, have a nice weekend. dont worry about the book for the shimelle thing, she says you can use anything, even an 8x8 album with a coupel of extra page protectors (you need 12 s
