Hi

Having just moved to Edinburgh I have spotted ads for Art Stamps Scotland to be held at the corn exchange 31st May and 1st June, has anyone been to this in the past? What is it like and who will be exhibiting?

Any info gratefully received

have always enjoyed this show. Good variety of stuff for both cardmakers and scrapbookers. Tried to look for last years catalogue but sorry can't find. Hard to find a list of exhibitors - did say to the organisers once about this -but they said hard to do because it keeps changing. Rest assured defo worth a visit, in fact prefer to secc shows, but on a smaller scale

I much prefer this show to the SECC in glasgow, and there are a good variety of Card/scrapping stands, I'm sure youll enjoy it :)

Hi Sam it is good fun going there and quite a few scottish retailers show their wares. Some of us from the crop usually have a coffee together at some point during the day.

Hi Sam, as Anniekay, Chaslin and Elliebaby have all said, it's a really good show, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, it's much smaller and friendlier than the SECC.

I went last year for the first time, down on the train. When I first saw the place I thought "ohhh it's small" but it was a brilliant day with lots to buy, I managed to come home with heavy bags and a light purse lol.

Definitely worth a visit.

I was looking at this too...... How easy i it to get to from the train station??? i would love to go but worry about the ease of transferring from Trainstation to corn exchange

it is right across the road from the slateford train stop. From Aberdeen I had to get the train to waverley and then from waverley to slateford, really easy to do. I think you do the same sort of change coming from the west too.

just thinking, one thing I did find last year was that there wasn't that many stands selling 12x12 papers and no bazzill at all. Does anyone know if there is an exhibitors list anywhere? or are any sponsors going to be there?

Do any of you know where I could get a good sized canvas shopping bag. Last year I had one I got from my (now closed down) LCS, but I shrunk it in the wash lol. It was perfect, had room for a plastic 12x12 box and my goodies.

as already mentioned this is a fabby show i much prefer it to the secc and everyone is really friendly last year they let me brochure for our crop at it and that was fantastic as its impossible to do that in glasgow,
I have a small supply of canvas bags that hold two pizza 12x12 boxes (included ) and are bright colours with a pocket on the front - made from strong canvas and can be decorated to your hearts delight selling for £7 on the day if you fancy - im going on the saturday and usually there for it opening

how about 11am and 3pm or if you fance 430 when the show is closing

pmsl, I woke up in a sweat last night, I had a dream that my mum decided she wanted to come with me, but she faffed about so much then decided she wasn't going to come and I ended up missing my train. It actually woke me up nightmare-style  I need to get out more!! Mind you don't know what was the biggest nightmare...missing my train or the thought of my mum coming with me as she's a nightmare if she ever comes stash shopping. She just doesn't understand that you have to do a full circuit of the shop at least 3 times before being completely satisfied.

you can, and you can use cuttlebug dies and embossing folders.

To use the quickutz ones you need a little black adaptor thing.

Oooh and, you can cut chipboard on the thick cut/bigz dies which is fab as you can then make your own chipboard flourishes or whatever.

Karen, what station does your train get into? You could find out if one goes on from there to slateford - its basically a stop right across the road from the place.

blimey though, your trip sounds worse than mine.

the adaptors, are they easy to get hold of?

If you time it right you can get a train from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh which stops at Slateford. It will save you the bus trip at the end. It is the slow train from Glasgow though so it might work out longer:wacko:

Karen I get the train from the stop after slateford to glasgow central it is slower than going to queen st but then if you add on the bus journey it works out about the same and no changes. The corn exchange is amost directly across the road from slateford it would be so much easier for you. Just think you need to take all that stash home LOL

Helen not sure if we are allowed to put links to Rusty Pickle cos they are not a sponsor so I would delete it if I were you as a newbie you would not be to know LOL See you at the corn exchange on the Saturday.

Hi I agree it was a bit dissapointing that there were not as many stalls and very little scraping stuff...although it was a stamping fair. I had hoped there would be new stash but no just the same old ...nothing that really grabbed my attention. It was nice though to catch up with people and to browse around. We really could do with a large craft shop with a designated scrapping area in Edinburgh

i was sooooo disappointed with it this year. walked round in ten minutes looking roughly at each stall to see which to return to. I got there just after 10am and was out and back at the car including a stop off to buy some bread at asda by 11.15. almost unknown for me to have been in and out that quick. was back in my house in west lothian by 11.40. im going to email the organisers and say that it was poor this year and im not sure i will bother again next year. see what they say.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but here goes..

I went this morning. I went around 3 times and was out in 30 mins and bought next to nothing. I have both exhibited and been a show attender at both the SECC and Corn Exchange and I can't help but feel the past few years we have been our own worst enemy. These show especially the SECC are expensive but the stands that always seem to have the most customers are the £1 stands. It is infuriating. To break even is a hard push and that is when you are local. Retailers have to be supported or else they aren't going to bother and that is what we are seeing now. They have either packed in altogether or are not going to make the journey.

We all have limited budgets but I have always felt why bother making the journey, paying the entrance fee and then head for the "market" stalls.

Since there were so few stalls you would think the organisers would spread the stands out a bit more and give the exhibitors more space-It was so difficult to get to anything. At least the entrance fee was cheap enough. _ and no-I didn't head for the £1 stands-these tended to be card stands I think.

I'm with you Theresa - didn't spend a lot of time there either. Only really spent any time at two stalls. I did manage to find an album that I'd been looking for and some BO Bunny Ella paper. I also found some a Disney page kit which was greta as we are off to DLP on the 14th.
I have to admit that I never even looked at the £1 stalls - not my thing at all.

I know Peggie but I think you have seen them. I bought the same punch as you though.

Yes I saw them and as you said they were probably the busiest there.

They must have put more punches out - there were only 2 there when I bought mine yesterday. I had a play last night & thought the results were good.

I think it was one of the worst shows that I have ever been to, it was so poor, I got a few things but mainly form oyster crafts and dimensions fourth. I don't do pound stalls, not what I am looking for.

Please don't shout at me for this.

We have a small craft shop in Edinburgh. Won't break rules by trying to advertise though.
We have heard and also read that there is a need for shops to carry a lot of scrapbooking papers in Edinburgh.
We carry many of the supplies that are required and some papers, but there are some problems in commiting to carrying large ranges of even 12x12 papers in stock.

Firstly, it is hard to gauge the size of the scrapping community in the area.
This is partly because as there has been no big stockist in the city, people have become used to shopping further afield and more so on the internet.
We are considering carrying a range of papers, but there is concern that we could be left with a lot of stock that we are unable to sell.

Another problem is that as scrap book pages are very personal and individual, it is easier for customers to trawl the internet for papers to suit a project than for any shop to carry a range wide enough to meet possible needs.

I think most shopkeepers would admit that there could be more on offer, but it is very hard to justify the investment required when the size of the market is unclear.

Apologies, if I have offended anyone, but it is easier to take chances just now with new ranges for cardmakers because we know how big that market is locally.

welcome and no one will shout at you, at least you did read the rules, many dont.

The cardmaking market and the scarpbooking one are both very different, the bulk of cardmakers are older and buy in stores and off the TV, scrapbookers are younger and surf the internet a lot, doing a lot of buying there too, from UK and further.
You are right, trying to please scarpbookers is much harder than cardmakers, but if you get it right, scarpbookers are the bigger spenders.

Hi Leithman,
I understand your angle completely. My local shops (2 within a 10 mile radius) did not go due to the ridiculous cost of the stalls at the Stamps and especially the SECC. I understand one said it was over £1000 per day for a small stall. Unless you are a chain of stores (yuk) you have no chance. However, on another point, I commute weekly between Glasgow and Edinburgh and buy every scrapbook mag printed here. And most of the craft ones. And I am totally unaware of ANY craft shops in Edinburgh except the Bead Shop as I have never seen any advertised. So maybe more support could be there, you are just looking in the wrong place .....and believe me I trawl and re-read the mags and have done for years.

I live near Edinburgh and know of only 2 shops, which are geared more to the cardmaker. That was ok for me untill a year or so when I got into scrapping more. In West Lothian there are 3 but again more cardmaking than scrapping, But there has also been 3 crafty supply shops that have shut down, this I can only think happens due to the "net".
