As there are so many Cricut owners on UKS, it's been suggested that we have a dedicated thread.
Having a dedicated forum for the time being isn't possible because of sponsorship. I understand from past post that MaryAnne is trying to sort out something, but in the meantime we'll have a non point scoring Team thread.
There's no limit as to who and how many of you can join in, so come on over and share all your tips, inspire others and just have a chat.

Having a thread that is dedicated to the Cricut use, will hopefully, eliminate so many other individual threads, often repeating questions that have already been asked and can get quite confusing.

PLEASE REMEMBER not to post links to any non sponsor site regarding the purchase or price of either the Machine itself or Cartridges. PM people by all means but the links will be removed from the thread.

Please feel free to carry on......

<barmybird>Ally, I have actually got that one but I can't use it cos I am to scared to do whatever you have to do to get it into the library!! I have got SYI, Accent Essentials as well, anything in there that you know of? I can't actually see the things very well cos of my eyesight being cr*p!!</barmybird>

I didnt have any trouble updating my DS but I know others have so I dont really know what to suggest. If you want to give it a go I went to the website and followed the instructions there and it worked. Then a day later I had to update the firmware on my machine and that worked ok too.

There is a ready made square frame which is quiggles and flowers in Home Accents, if thats any use, you wouldnt need the DS then you could just cut it as is at the size you want. I find looking at the pictures on the new carts really hard as they are very small and there is no book with bigger pix in, and I didnt think my eyesight was that bad!

Morning everyone. Having trouble keeping up with you lot the last couple of days, must be out of practice!

Sorry to hear about the meeting with social services Tracy. But I agree with Sandie, if there's a problem you need to let them know. She is a handful and anyone would struggle. {{{hugs}}}, you know we're here if you need to talk/rant.

Lovely and sunny here today too, hope it lasts as I seem to have loads of washing to do....again! Where does it all come from? I might even have to do i***ing today (before the pile falls and injures someone!).

Lin - I've lost track what carts you have got now! Why don't you ask here to find out how much they are first and whether she'll send them over for you! :)

Think George is coming down with this cold, fingers crossed its just a trapped bogey!!! (sorry :D).

Well, I'd better get a move on, been catching up on all my threads and I've got lots to get on with today. Will try and call in again later. xx

I'll have a look later thanks hun xxxx

You're welcome. My eyesight isnt that bad, but the pix on the new carts are VERY small and I cant tell what some of them are going to turn out like. I cut the frame on about 4 inches and it was very pretty espeically if you stick a tiny gem in the middle of the flowers. I'll try and post a pic tonite when I get home, but the puter wouldnt cooperate last night!

when my kids go to partys they always make me buy a bag to put their presents in to give out to their friends, so at a guess would the bags and tags be good for this? or is the card we use not strong enough?

Ally, when i first updated my library on the DS the picture of the cuts on the new carts where tiny and in the wrong place IYKWIM, but then i followed the instructions on the Cricut site and changed the file name thing, now they are the same size as all the others.

Good Morning.

Had a trip out yesterday to visit my aunt in Rugby. It was a lovely day, sunshine all the way, until I was heading back to Derby that is.

Hoping to get back into the scrapbooking today. I want to try some of the shapes on accent essentials.

Good morning ladies, I wonder if any of you could answer my questions?
I don't have a Cricut but have a good friend who owns one but before I ask her a BIG favour I would like some idea of the time and 'trouble' involved.
I am making mini tag-albums with my Brownies and would like a 'My Family' title about one and a half inches high for the front of them.
Thing is, I need about 60 in various colours (and differing fonts would be ideal but not essential.)
Approximately how many could you cut from an A4 piece of card and if she could do say 10 on each approximately how long would it take to cut six different coloured cards.
Basically what I need to know is this too large a task to ask someone else to do for you?
TIA

:-) I have a thing about tags! So I'm looking forward to using it for loads of them. Also, I like the welded shapes (you could use as shaped card blanks) although you can do these by welding on the CDS.

hi ally

when my kids go to partys they always make me buy a bag to put their presents in to give out to their friends, so at a guess would the bags and tags be good for this? or is the card we use not strong enough? I'm sure it would be fine Lin, just choose your card carefully. :)

TIA Tia, if your friend has the software this shouldn't take her too long. Also depends if she has the baby cricut or the Expression? If she has the expression and the software it won't take too long - especially for a good friend. Once she's made the template she can use it to cut all the different colours separately. HTH?

Tracy where did you find this on the Cricut site, I've been wandering around the site for ages and can't find anything? I'm hopeless at computers and since they changed my glasses prescription I have to keep putting my glasses on and off when I use the computer, so it would be helpful to make the pictures bigger so I stand a chance of actually seeing them

Emmyloo, the front page of your mini album is very pretty, can’t wait to see what else you do with the album :)

Mumfy, your shower is looking great, building work is never much fun but just keep trying to think of what it will all look like when its finished :)

Lin, you Disney card is stunning, well done you, I think Karmen’s friend will love it. The insert is very pretty and a great choice of paper :) I too hate peel offs and gave all mine to little one recently, she's having a ball with them  Did you mean me when you asked about the Paperdolls cart? I got mine when I bought my bug from CC so it must be someone else who has it ordered :)

Hope all the poorlies feel much better soon including the hubbies and children :)

Hi all.
Sorry you're feeling unwell Tracy - hope you're better soon.
Lin - hope things go well with the in-laws!
I too have tried end caps and wasn't too successful at first, now i've seen what they're meant to look like, I'll have another go!
My carts still haven't arrived - I'm hoping they've not gone astray! I thought I'd put work down as a delivery address, but I checked my email today and found i'd put home! However, there was no little card from postie!
Mumfy - the shower looks fab! Sorry you've had a bad day. How stupid to count migraines as everyday things! Your boss wouldn't say that if he/she'd had one! Besides, you can't help it if you're ill! Who wants that?!

Donna, Hi hunni you ok?

right i don't think i left any one out if i have me very sorry :D:p, well I picked up hubby yesterday at 12.45 washed Eeyore just got back to the house and the in laws came, all in all it was ok, FIL love my car and asked if i would swap :nono::nono: way i said, as for the building work he said it's much better now etc and the house should be worth more money now ( we not doing it for the more money, we doing it because what we had b4 was leaking rain in to the living room). The People from Canada ( angus's aunty and cuz) was lovely( angus's has never seen them b4), they even brought the kids and i gifts from Canada, i felt guilty as i didnt even think of getting them anything, they got me a shopping bag and the kids they got some bits like pens, t-shirts,teddy's etc. So I said to Angus last night after they left why dont we send some flowers to them both when they get back to Canada, they wont be back in Canada for a month due to they going to London,France and a load more places b4 they return home.

so today its a other tidy up ready for my mum n dad tomorrow its all go again :)

Morning

I wondered if maybe you might be able to offer me some advice!

I have a Robo (which I rarely use as the whold computer thing drives me bats)
and I also have a Cricut (little one). I love the Cricut and find it very easy.

I have been looking at the SCAL software and am wondering if it is worth selling the Robo, upgrading to the expression and buying the SCAL software. It appears alot more straight forward than the Robo and would be interested in your opinions! Have any of you done this?

Thanks

Wendy

Hi Wendy and welcome

I have all 3 machines :D, but i used my eddie(expression) loads more, i could not get my head round the robo, but saying that my hubby wants to keep the robo so he is using that now and then.

I think the expression is brill i  it so easy to use, but i guess as for you upgrading from baby bug to the expression i guess it depends on what you craft card or scrpbooking?

a lot of ladies on here have upgraded to the bigger bug and have got the scal software i have not got the scal though so cant comment on that.

mmmm dont think im being much help here

hi scrapfanatic,
I too have the craft robo, and have hardly used it .
I have the expression and have scal so basically having the big bug and scal - I have the craft robo and the big bug all-in-one.
Cos I can have all the nice cartridges and then by plugging into pc I have all the available fonts (1000's of them ) and all the dingbats.
So me ,personally think I will use my bug and scal and not touch my craft robo again
(that was a A1 description ..donna lol)

On a better note though...:lol::lol:
been and got it
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/9599/s8001933ro7.jpg
cost me 39.95..bargain
I also spotted these.. paid 2.50 each, I got 2 the other day cost me 4.11 each :(

Thanks everyone for your comments on the cards.

Emmy - love the leaving card.

Mumfy - sounds like a great days shopping.

Just passing through. Went out yesterday afternoon to take poor George (who is going stir crazy stuck in) to the park and felt really rough again. :(

OK, didn't just pass through, thought it easier to catch up now while less pages!

I still don't understand end caps!!!! Will have to have a play I think.

Ally - those cards are gorgeous, I've been looking at Home Accents on my CDS and think I might have to get it! (don't tell DH!).

Hope you feel better soon Ruth.

Em - loved the cat card. :D

Sorry you're still feeling rough Tracy. {{{hugs}}}
Perhaps you can let me know what the nurse said about tantrums? We've had a couple of bad ones again today. And he's getting so spiteful. :( *sigh*
Did it go ok?

Shower looks great Mumfy!!! My sis and aunt both swear by the Mr Muscle shower spray, you know the one that you spray on the walls/door after you've showered. (Don't have a cubicle so can't vouch for it myself)

And those embossing plates were a fab bargain! I really want Swiss Dots, but local shop doesn't have it in stock, so will have to wait a bit. (perhaps I could order it with Home Accents??!!!:nono:)

Tracy - look forward to seeing the pooh card. :)

Lin - glad all went well with the relatives. :D And that you've sold baby bug. I need to get mine sorted, Daren got the box out of the loft before we went away but haven't sorted myself out yet.....mind you, I have been poorly.

Hi Tracy, oooh, thats a great price! I was going to look on there earlier and the phone rang and got sidetracked. It was our caravan park, our boiler is going to cost £204 + VAT to fix. :( We have to get it done, otherwise we can't use the caravan. Why do all the bills come at once?

Mumfy, the shower cubicle is looking brilliant with the door on, you've every right to be pleased with hubby :)

Wendy, I had a Craftrobo and sold to buy the Expression :) I don't regret the decision one bit and there isn't the learning curve with the big bug that there is with the Robo, we all love our bugs on here, good luck with your decision :) you don't have to sell yourbaby bug with the George cart as they can be bought from CC as previously mentioned :)

Tracy - I've only had an e-mail today telling me my two carts from Oh My Gawd have been shipped - ordered at the same time as my order from H*llm*rk (4th April) and that arrived yesterday.

Not a happy bunny here - I've ordered from them before and the service was OK (shipped within about 3 days) but this time it's been dreadful. I'll still to H*llm*rk I think. Cheaper postage too.

Just been into town to buy DS (aged 14) some clothes as he is growing at an alarming rate. He hates shopping and each time I take him I say his Dad can take him next time. He's a nightmare, he lives in tracky bottoms or shorts and t-shirts, suggested today he might buy a pair of jeans - the look of horror on his face, fashion conscious he is not. After an hour all we came home with was a football shirt. He does my head in.

Just as we got home the post lady knocked and my Doodlecharm cart arrived from OH My Gawd, but no Home Accents, but that has cheered me up no end.:D

Hope you feel better soon CB, i had a really bad night last night, couldn't sleep, i just ached all over and didn't know what to do with myself.

What is it with boys and shopping for clothes? My DS hates me just buying his clothes, but is so fussy he's a nightmare to take shopping too.

No new carts for me today:(.

Finished my Pooh card here.

hi all,
tracey...again lovely, I wouldn't have thought of putting pooh on the bridge ...DUH..well done nice card

...Not a good morning here ....
wev'e been to court :angry::angry::angry:
Short story....we got car on hp , it was a bad'un, we sent it back , they said it was fixed,
wasnt fixed, lies,lies,lies...they took car and sold at auction, they took us to court for money owing ..:angry:
so we went to court ..and
the judge said that he couldn't do nothing about it but we would have to have a charging order put on house (ccj):(:(:(
they have put no interest on it , so we now have to phone hp comp up and offer them some money <_<<_<
so great we now have a ccj against us , through no fault of our own
A****OLES !!!!

Tracy I love your Pooh card, I have a expression but I dont have the design studio my friend has it but we dont seem to beable to get to grips with it, it a lot of money if you cant use it and I also dont make many cards.
I have kept up with this thread since it started even if I haven't joined in, I do have a lap top but I am not that good with all the down loads of firm ware and all the other thing you have to do to load it on to the computer I suppose I am afraid to give it a try, maybe I will pluck up courage soon and give it ago although I dont know if I would us it much for scrap booking.
What do you people think.
Jean.

Hi Jean - I dont use CDS much usually for welding words there's lots of fun and lovely things you can do with the expression on its own so dont feel you have to have a CDS to get the most out of it.

Hello all, sorry didn't pop back in yet, have I missed much?

Still feel like poo, but have just rolled my sleeves up today and done some cleaning, have hardly done any all week and it was starting to annoy me. So I don't feel any better, but at least the house is clean now.

Right off to try and catch up, hope you haven't been chatting too much!!! ;)

Well, its quiet on here today. I daresay it will be different Monday when the kids go back.

Hi all,
i thought i was over this illness thing, i felt OK earlier, but now i feel all weak and shaky again.:(

Not sure i'll use Oh My Gawd again, i had my shipping email from them Saturday, strange when we all ordered the same day. i think i've been spoilt with using H**LM**K, Sorry to hear you're still feeling pants Tracy. I used O* M* Crafts at got a good service. Some of the girls I chat to on the Lurve thread have also had good service from them, isn't it strange? They sent me an email today with reduced carts on, but have most of them and TBH they weren't that cheap.

hello everyone took ages catching up lm still not well and just been to doctors got anti biotics anda steroid inhaler so hopefully will feel better soon loved all the new creations there lovely im too washed out the now to play speak soon Hope you feel better soon CB.

Just as we got home the post lady knocked and my Doodlecharm cart arrived from OH My Gawd, but no Home Accents, but that has cheered me up no end.:D Thats good Dee, at least you can play with DC while you wait for HA now. :)

Tracy that Pooh card is great! :D I've been looking at the pooh sticks bridge wondering what I can do with it. How's L today?

{{{Mumfy}}}, what a nightmare about the car, etc. Its not fair how some people get away with things is it? How long do you have a CCJ for? Do they get removed after a while?

Hi Jean, I was a bit like you and kind of frightened of my cricut for ages, but I couldn't live without it now! Everytime I am crafting he gets switched on and used. I think you just need to be brave and bite the bullet, if you have an expression I'd wait to get the CDS, you don't need it straightaway. I mostly use mine for welding letters and objects (to make shaped cards).

Well, I'm gonna disappear for a bit again, c u later. x

Hi Jean, to be honest i don't use my CDS much for cutting, but i do use it for designing, so i know what sizes to cut straight away without the guess work.

Sam, i've not had any real probs with L for the last three days, because my Mum has had her for me, i couldn't cope with her paddies with the way i've been feeling. How's George been?

SamG
18-04-2008, 06:32 PM
Poor George is very bored. I think he's having a growing spurt as well which doesn't help. He seems to be fine and then just flies off the handle. Men eh? They start young!!! Just glad Daren will be here tomorrow, I think he's going to take him swimming. G loves it when they go out just the 2 of them. :)

We started some spoon monsters earlier (ELC kit) and after he'd torn all the tissue paper up he was bored. So I had to stick all the paper to the spoons and then he wouldn't listen when I told him they had to dry! I daresay when he wakes up soon we'll be adding arms/eyes/hair etc!

its quiet on here without Lin!

Lesley you cut the base in black first, then cut all the layers and stick them to the base. The face is already cut on that layer, so the black shows through, IYKWIM.

We're having a lazy day here, haven't been on pc as Daren has put about 100 cds onto our ipods and I've been making cards to sell at my Mum's school. George isn't very happy as he tripped over his lego and trod on some and now has quite a nasty cut on the bottom of his foot. Hi Sam, MC seems to have some cute stuff on it, but i haven't really looked properly yet, but i only got it because it was cheap.

There's a couple of April's DT cards on my blog now, i made six cards with the kit last month, but i only posted photos of the ones that Leo put on the website, as she sends her subscribers an inspirational booklet with them all in.

Poor little George, i've stood on Lego loads of times, and it really hurts.

I think I've already seen the DT cards on your blog, had a look yesterday. :D Does that mean we can't see the cards you make?

I love your frog card, I might have to "borrow" that idea. I had a look at PD today to find the frog! There's also a hopping one on there.

Am watching a cart on eb*y, up to £20 but not finished til tonight, why do people put so many bids in early on? All it does it knock up the price, I never bid on anything until right near the end. Some people have no brains!!!

Do you watch the craft channel on sky/cable? Did you see the new templates from that mad woman Carol? That car was fantastic, I was really tempted to get it (as it was free P+P too). We know loads of card mad people!

tracygough
19-04-2008, 08:01 PM
I've designed a card on the DS using the other frog, but haven't made it yet.

Just had a little look at MC and it's fab for kiddies, there's loads of fairy tale characters on it, like, the three little pigs, Little Red riding hood and the Old Woman who lived in a shoe, on it.

Good luck with bidding on the cart. I tend to put my max bid in early, then forget about it, as if i watched it, i'd pay more than i wanted to.

SamG
19-04-2008, 08:07 PM
Must look at MC later, it sounds good. :)

Perhaps the maximum bid would have been a good idea, but I hate it when you miss out because of 50p or something, drives me barmy!!

Look forward to seeing the other froggy card. Can I ask you, do you use a brown chalk pad for your edges? I bought a brown catseye, but didn't realise it was a pigment till I got home and it takes ages to dry.

Ok ladies - I feel like a right idiot because I am a virgin...no really - a Cricut virgin that is *blush*

I have been reading all the threads and whatnots and I am still non the wiser with regard to the software stuff you can get from DS and SCAL.

All I have at the moment is the baby bug and the George Cartridge and I downloaded the trial version from DS. What do I do now? How do I get the designs from my computer to the bug...please explain as if I was a four year old (and type slowly, after all I am blonde...)

I seriosuly don't understand what I have to do in order to make SCAL work on my bug once I have bought the software. Do I also need to buy the software from DS first?

Help a sister out please...

Thanks so much

:lol: Hi Kim, welcome to the common room, not that we're all common, but you know what i mean. I haven't got SCAL, but some of the others have. But i do have the CDS. You need to connect your bug to your PC with a USB cable, like the one from a printer, then update the firmware on your bug by following the instructions it gives you. Just have a play with it, you can download some cut files from the share blog, which is here, http://cdsts.blogspot.com/. Just shout if you have any more questions.

Em - if you use a chalk eye inkpad it gets in most corners, but if its a really tight one I tend to make a piece of kitchen roll into a point and use that to apply the ink.

It is very quiet on here. I expect that will change tomorrow when a lot of the kids go back to school.

Here's the LO I did (which was inspired by Tracy's frog card - thanks hun!).

Hi ladies, and linbob (cuttlebug). l bought a cricut last Oct but because of home improvements and other things taking over l never even took it out of the box to check. The time l have had to spare has been spent on robo. l thought l would read this thread and see what cricut was all about, and very informative it is too. So much so that l left the cricut alone and against your better judgment l ordered an expression and CDS from CC. l'm pleased to say that after ordering on the 4th it is being delivered on Monday with a charge of £22.02. l got the pooh and teardrop carts with it. l haven't completely ignored the cricut over the past few months, I've been buying carts/ pens/tool kit/ 12 x 24 paper so l have something to use with it which was really one of the initial problems of not using it.
Robo has been put to one side in anticipation and l'm looking forward to using the new bug for my cardmaking and also doing some scrapping for which l have loads of stash.
My baby cricut is now with my friend who can keep it indefinitely. l did try it quickly before l gave it to her and was amazed at the simplicity compared to robo. I did read that linbob said the expression was slightly different to use so l didn't go into any detail with it, just one cut.
l wouldn't sell robo in favour of cricut as they are both so different and l love the delicacy of some of the templates.
Nice to meet you all
Dot
PS, by the way l was 60 last week so not a spring chick like most of you, my sons are grown and gone, l have 3 adopted special needs kids, two of whom still are at home and I'm granny to 4 grandkids who love my cards

Hi Dot and welcome aboard, you gonna love your Expression.

Jean, I got my free trial from the Cricut site, but i'm not sure it's still there now.

Glad the links made you all laugh, the best bit is, if they are such big fans, why didn't anyone notice it wasn't Okie's blog? I had to put 'It's me that's famous' though.:)

DUH! I guess they all just assume that if something's being praised, it can only be hers!

Hope everyone's ok and the lurgies are disappearing. That room looks huge Mumfy. Hope the electrics are quickly sorted out!

I think I must be missing something with this Okie person our American friends are raving about. I ready the threads Tracy posted (what a load of muppets) and went to look on Okies blog at her cut files - just what are they raving over? I didn't see anything even remotely special and certainly nothing to elevate her to the celebrity status they all seem to be doing. I've only had my DS a couple of weeks and there didn't seem to be anything of hers that I wouldn't be capable of doing. Her ballerina is quite creepy.

I do think we should be giving credit where its due, but in her case its far from due I'm afraid - that is unless she has some super douper amazing designs hidden away in some secret place on her blog! :nono:

Lin it all looks great, a bet you'll be glad when it's all finished though.

Mumfy your room is huge, it's gonna be a really lovely bright room when its done.

Tracy, you've really made me laugh with you comment. I thought it was just me missing something. I've had three pm's from Cricut MB members asking me about my cut file and saying they are gonna be using it, which is nice.:)

So if I haven't missed something special after all, just what is it that they're all raving over? The standard of their DS stuff must be p1ss poor!!

AmyMackin
20-04-2008, 09:57 PM
they're all raving over the cot that tracy made - which was really good, however they think some women called okie made it and are giving okie all the credit for it when she didn't actually do anything

Hi all
haven't been around for the last week. Been really busy with school function stuff.

It is impossible to catch up on a weeks threads so I've managed to read from the start of this one.

I've looked at the links to two peas and cricut mb and nearly wet my drawers. I laughed out loud after reading all the Okie sucking and then there is this lone voice from Tracy putting them straight!! Fabulous.

Linbob - glad the building work is coming on.

Mumfy - sorry to hear you've had a s****y time.

All my stuff has come from the up stamping party we had, I've had to find room for it all. Can't wait to get stuck into it this week.
