aww bless ya tan.

Must admit i am struggling a bit with the challenge too, its just not coming together! Helen, does it have to be a layout? i was given a little coaster book that i could do for the challenge!

EmilyLovedHim
15-04-2008, 05:56 PM
Nope the idea was to get you using the stash you have been hoarding and get you thinking of doing something different.

Jo I cannot believe you have a Christmas countdown!

madhattermillie
15-04-2008, 06:01 PM
i had to change the birthday one, and as my hollibobs are not booked yet, i went for xmas! lol!

Ok then i will do this coaster book for the challenge - and some of the bits linds sent were purple - so that can be my purple thing! as for the unexpected . . . . . . . . eek! not a clue!

still waiting for MIL to come home to check there for camera!

lindschick
15-04-2008, 06:07 PM
Glad you got your bits. Hope your camera turns up soon, it's so annoying when that happens isn't it. I hate losing things. Gosh my babies have kept me very busy today I'm exhausted!!!!

RuthyS
15-04-2008, 06:24 PM
Oh Jo, I am not liking your ticker, it means that in 253 days I will have a three month old baby ! Argh that is scarey. Maybe I should have a ticker ?

Linds I wish I lived closer, I could slip my baby in when I need a break and you may never notice an extra !

lindschick
15-04-2008, 07:11 PM
Anytime Ruthy just pop a tag round their wrist and I'll pick her/him up from Gatwick!!! It's funny to think that the baby will be 3 months old by then. we are just going to have some stew for tea, gary cooked it.

EmilyLovedHim
15-04-2008, 07:17 PM

madhattermillie
15-04-2008, 07:43 PM
Ruth, definitley have a ticker to countdown to the due date! 9 months seems so long, but it all passes so quick (although you wont think that near the end!)

we are having popcorn chicken, then i am going to take some pics of minibooks . . . . . YES! i found it! decided to check at my mums again - and i picked up the chair cushion (the only one i didnt check earlier) and thought that gap looks big . . . . the camera was right down the inside of the armchair! but PHEW! i have it now.

RuthyS
16-04-2008, 07:56 PM
Have to admit, I have never really fancied a BIA, not really sure why as I am a tool junkie. Splendid use of the word conversant Mandi !

I have to tell you all that I got Kylea's ATC that we arranged to swap the other day, they are absolutely beautiful, I think I am going to get hooked. Does anyone else fancy swapping ?

mandijane55
16-04-2008, 07:57 PM

I will swap ATC's when the hubbub at work has died down......Maybe in May perhaps.....

Not ordered yet - probs with their website not taking off P&P despite me spending over £40 GRRRRR.

I must admit to really thinking about it and then thought I would go out and spend £35 on stash from QVC without even thinking about it so decided to go for it!

lindschick
16-04-2008, 09:01 PM
Mandi - sory to hear DD is still coughing bless her, you must all be really fed up.

Ruthy - the mags usually put a call out on sites like cardmaking and papercraft. I have the email addys to send cards to I'll find them and pm you. This is about the 4th time I've had a card in, they are always looking for people.

I've not ordered anything for the cc as I spent all my money at Ally Pally never mind I'll use my stash up!!

RuthyS

madhattermillie
16-04-2008, 09:48 PM
kylea, have a look in the cybercrop section, i think in the help part, there is a program called pix-resizer, its great for shrinking your piccies. Or if you know its a pic to upload, change your quality to the lowest it will go on the camera, just dont forget to change it back!

Kylea, for a real help to get into scrapping, do some of the classes from the cybercrop, they tell you what to cut n where to put it, you cant go wrong!

Off to upload my challenge of helens - back soon!

Hello strangers

I hope everyone is well. I see that you've all been keeping yourself busy.

Kylea - welcome to the team.

Tania - Sorry to hear your back is giving you problems. I hope it sorts its self out quickly. Thanks for the PM.

Ruth - glad to hear that the morning sickness seems to be easing off. Definately think you should get a ticker. Thanks for the PM too.

Lindsey - congratulations on getting published. Which mag? Is it online? Glad you had a good time at Ally Pally - great to see a picture of teamies.

Helen - So jealous of having a daughter to scrap with. You'll have to hang on to your stash for dear life now. Your stash buy at Ally Pally looks great. Will look forward to seeing some LO's with it.

Mandi - yikes to those work hours and those traffic hours. Hope the antibotics work soon for DD.

Jo - glad you found your camera. Its always the last place you look! ;-)

Fiona - so where is it you take visitors when they come?

Jane - Hi to you too.

So what have I been up too? Mostly trying to get to grips with my new job. Its been 7 years since I was doing something new, that demanded all my attention and effort. It is fun to be challenged at work, but also so scary. There is SOOOOOOOO much I don't know. I can't believe the number of meetings I have to attend. I swear I spend at least 5 hours a day in meetings, so I'm wondering when it is I am actually supposed do any work. Then I have the fun of a whole new set of group dynamics. In my group we have 6 different nationalities, and the larger team that is working on a specific car has an unknown number. But the ones that are making my life the most interesting are the two guys I have to work with most. One is a rather quiet Italian, and the other a very mouthy Swede, which is abit unusual. Anyway all of this means that I've not had much or any surfing time during the day, which is when I was here most. I'm sure that it will settle down, once I figure out what I'm doing.

Anyone else checking out the CC pre crop activities. A great sketch there.

Its coming up for 11 here, so I should head for bed.

Sweet dreams.

Mornin all!

Julie, great to hear from you - glad everything is going well in the job - but a quiet italian? i didnt know they existed! lol!

Helen - its lovely that dd is getting involved! dont know about all of you guys, but i am amazed at how forward children actually are! yesterday sydney picked up a scrap of paper, and a bubble wrap envelope, put the paper inside and folded the top over! she had seen me doing it in the day - abolutely amazed me!

linds, where are you published (must've missed that!) would love to have a peek!

saw the advert for that 'beat the star' programme last night - and wow! he is pretty! lol!

17-04-2008, 06:59 PM
Helen, just seen your message about bridgend - we dont go very often, so i make the most of the cadbury shop and the paper mill shop!

i'll have to let you know next time we are going - its due soon, sydneys little cousing is toddling around now too and it will be soooo cute to see them together! lol! We go to my uncles, about half an hour away in treharris!

EmilyLovedHim
17-04-2008, 07:05 PM
We are not due down there now until August - it is harder to plan visits now with me working at the weekend and DD being at school too. Did not know there was a CADBURY shop there tho! Shows how long it has been since I popped in - guess it comes from having a designer outlet with a Papermill less than 5 minutes away

Still you never know there might come a time when we coincide so at least we know now to let the other know!

lindschick
17-04-2008, 09:21 PM
Jo, he's very pretty indeed!!!

Julie, glad you are getting on ok with your job, hopefully it will all become clearer soon!!

The mag is beautiful cards, it's just in the readers gallery section, I'm not sure if you can see it online, I'll scan the page tomorrow and show you.

My 2 are in and out of crafting sometimes they sit down with me and craft and other times don't want to.

Who is Bailey ? Tell us. I think we should have a run down of children and pets for Kylea's benefit.
I have custody of a puddy cat, Smudge is her name, she is 16, black and white and the cutest thing in the world. We are looking after her for a friend who had to move back to the UK, he is still looking for permanent accomodation, so nearly 18 months on we still have her !
And I am pregnant with my first baby.
Who is next ?

Someone was offering baby Giant Africian Snails on our Freecycle yesterday!

Anyway I am Helen (38), married to Alan (42) for 17 years in September, one DD Grace (4) and two ginger cats (1 year old brothers) called Cheshire and Tangle. We had two others prior to these but Bardsley (ginger) went to Rainbow Bridge a year ago January and then Ebony went there too in December just gone :(. Sadly missed both.

I work in a branch of Craft Central so I am surrounded by stash at work :)

Oh and I live in Ashford, Kent.

 so you know too what it is like to live with temptation! Saying that I am pretty good as I know we will pretty much always have most stuff or else I can get it ordered if I want/need it.

Mind you I have heard today that things are changing and we will have certain things for a certain amount of time so that will be a killer!

my introduction (although kylea knows it all anyway!) i am jo, 28, live with paul, 31 (childhood sweetheart, 12 years +!!) DD sydney 16m Mutt Jerri 2 1/2. Not currently working, though trying to set up an online shop (if this flippin money EVER comes through!)

Mandi, woo! i totally agree . . . . . off to birmingham tomorrow, we are getting the next jewel bear from build a bear workshop, and i cant wait! (honestly, we are doing it for sydney! lol!)

Paul wants to look in the apple shop, the insurance cheque is going to buy him a new laptop and he is toying with the idea of a mac!

Also i want to pop into selfridges (stay away from the jelly belly, veuve cliquot and krispy kremes!) to see if they have the venezuelan black from willies wonky chocolate factory, although i fear they only sell it in london!

Whats everyone else up to this weekend?

Kylea, try this (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1320&Itemid=50) scrapbooking page, there are full instructions, any probs give me a shout!

OR, try a scraplift, which is where you copy someone elses layout, a nice easy one to try is one of mine here (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=135695&cat=500&ppuser=19084), or have a look through the gallery for something you fancy!

There are tons of doggy layouts on there, Karlotta is katy godbeer from docrafts, she has lots of layouts of her newfs!

hopefully, although wont be til next week at the earliest now! Still got those books here for you! is monday 'safe'?

I need to come in anyway, looking for something unusual to make a minibook cover for a cybercrop class, was thinking about plasma (that thick plastic stuff) and probably mountboard for the back.

To do a young/old layout, you could put a hinge on the big square, have young on the outside, and older on the inside! Or do a double layout where the pic is on the right hand side for one, and mirror image for the other, pic on the left!

Good for you Ruth getting some pampering in! Mind you the cost of nail and foot care over there is so much better than in the UK. Has been nice here for a few days but cold and windy again today and the weekend is not looking too good either :(

At work until 1pm tomorrow and I am so wanting to scrap but best hold off a bit until next weekend! After being at Ally Pally last weekend guess I had better remind my family who I am ! Which reminds me a lovely lady there last weekend gave me some gifts to pass onto my scrapping friends - no not stash either (MJ has seen what they are so SSHHHHH!) if you want one then please send me your address and I will get one sent off to you - don't worry if you are not in the UK - yes that's you Julie, Fiona and Ruth !

Cannot wait to see what you do Kylea - same goes here if you fancy anything in my gallery then please feel free! The one of my DD on a rocking horse was only the second or third LO I did and the first really without any help at a class, so if you can better that then go for it!

Don't forget those addresses!

AWWW Bailey is just gorgeous and that LO is my fave - could not improve on it honestly! Second one made me laugh and think I could just about see you Kylea. The only thing I would add to the works one would be some sort of journaling so that in years to come you know what it was all about or someone else looking at it would know but this is very personal and not everyone does add journaling to their pages! I inherited a lot of pics from my Nan and don't know who everyone is so this is important to me because of that - only my personal view tho so don't feel you have to take it on board :nono:

None of us think that our LOs are any good either so don't worry about it! Noticed your ticker what you getting then?

Evening!

had a busy busy day - right my to do list . . .

update 1st post of thread (duh me!)
pm helen!
look in kyleas gallery
look at mandis bits on the blog

Ruth, a pedicure is certainly a treat, and best to do it whilst you can still see your feet too! lol!

Have read through, but i know i will have missed something! Been to the bull ring today - saw a woman posing in la senza window - bless her, some old guy stood in front staring at her boobs, then when she moved, he did too for a better view! lol! We got sydney the next jewel bear from build a bear workshop, a boy this time called oggy! (if you say oggy oggy oggy, sydney says oi oi oi!) and had a good old wander around - pooped now!

Kylea, take sum pics of your stash - or let us know which RP and delish you got! Where did you get them from?

i am off now to do my to-do list! lol!

ETA to do list done! mandi, those kit colours look fabby! Tania and kylea, have left some comments - and helen - very intriguing about the little gift!

Also vellum quotes and verses and a couple of other embellishments. Spent about £20.

joe sleeping in the field was the year before i joined you! but yes, remember all of the shots (and steve told me the next day we should have put them on his tab!)

let me give you a tip about stash, something i wish i had been told when i first started - buy kits! otherwise you will end up with tons of papers that look too nice to use! Mandi is on a design team, go and have a look at her blog, the kits she does design work for are great! (and really reasonable too!)

Morning all....

Kylea...you get points based on what scrapping you do each month....I'm sure Jo can give you a list of points for each type of scrapping...I'm useless at remembering.....The points are all fun really....there's no prize but each team tries to get as many points to submit each month.....there's no pressure for points though here....we just kinda do what we do and see what happens....
As for us liking what you've done....I'm never truly happy with any finished LO but we all love each other's work....publish your LO to your gallery and let us all have a look and comment....it's nice when people comment on your work and point out bits that you never actually saw when you were making it.....

Jo I watched pushing up daisies....it's a funky show...

There is NO right and wrong Kylea - as long as you like it then that is what matters!

There is a piece on here somewhere (which I can never find!) with the points but basically any LO that is 6x6 or above you get 10pts for. Mini books, maze books, Circle Journal entries, etc all have different ones which I am certain Jo can tell you about. No you do not sound thick! Just new so we expect you to ask questions - don't worry about it, just ask away......

Mornin all!

Kylea, as has been said there is no right and wrong in scrapping - just do something YOU like and stuff everyone else! you are scrapping for you, and when you start scrapping to please others, it doesnt get fun any more!

regarding journalling, just put what feels right, sometimes a date, name and place is enough, other times, you'll feel like you are writing a book! Sometimes you will put it pride of place on your layout, other times you will hide it or write it on the back. Its worth remembering that handwriting is as important as computer journalling, but dont feel you have to do it one particular way all of the time. i started off with nothing but computer typed writing, but i am slowly adding more handwriting into my layouts!

as for points i will dig out the list, but each month, just tell me what you have done with regards to layouts, minibooks etc and i add them to the spreadsheet to send.

hope everyone is having a fun day, i am off to try to make sense of some instructions - then going to pauls aunties this afternoon!

just popping in quickly before sydney gets picked up! mornin all!

in a good mood today - i won sumfing! lol! (a craft book of my choice) so i am pretty chuffed!

notice a few of you have been busy, i have got to pop into town this morning - post some books, and nip in and see kylea - so i will have a little look at everyones galleries when i get back.

as for kylea and scrapbooking - its true, she said she never would! all i can say is . . . . . . . told ya so! lol!

now whos going to talk me into/teach me how to with card making! lol! its something i have always done, but its always been special one offs that took hours to do!

i missed beat the star (we have got into shameless, that programme is terrible, its real car crash tv, you just cant look away!) so i will try and catch it on catch up tv sometime this week!

right, back later ladies! MIL is here!

Agree that although I do make cards I just cannot get into it if that makes sense! You have made me feel so much better Jo as everyone says if you can scrapbook you can card make :nono:! As long as my cards consist of a bit of patterned paper, ribbon and a flower or two I am fine - get me on anything else and I am stuck apart from the quick cards I make with some die cuts from work that can be stacked up and I use these instead of a flower on a kiddies card !

BIA just arrived but cannot play as DD is still home today and I promised mug painting after lunch!

Which channel is this dreadful programme on anyway - I only have freeview and could not find it!

Hi girls

Have you seen that the CC timetable is up on the homepage? Exciting!

I'm a card maker first then a scrapbooker. My biggest time saver is to make cards in batches. Our two sides of the family live in two different countries so they never see each others cards. So I make 2 x the same mothers birthday card, 2 x the same fathers birthday cards, 2x fathers day cards etc. Plus an assortment of generic birthday cards, usually 4 of each design. That way everyone thinks they are getting a very personal card, but I've only had to "design" once for two people. I do the same with Christmas cards. I do 8 x 7 different designs, which is enough to ensure that people in the same groups that might see each others cards all get different ones.

I have updated the first thread - GET YOUR CHALLENGE THINGS UPLOADED! TODAYS THE DAY!

also i have added a link to everyones gallery! chatting to kylea today, and thought that would make it all a bit easier to find our pics - Also, what galleries inspire us? can you all post 1 link to an inspirational gallery, and 1 or 2 links to inspirational designers. This will help kylea to find her style and what she likes, and maybe challenge us to try something different!

as promised Karlottas Gallery (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=7324) (Kyleas shop do quite a bit of do crafts stuff)

i like the gallery of cloclo (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=22719) i love the writing she uses on her layouts, and i love the cluttery look.

EmilyLovedHim
21-04-2008, 08:32 PM
Sorry have I not bored you with my kitty troubles?! Cat has a urinary infection need to get a sample so we have special glas beads to that we can get it - instead he decides that he is going to hold on until we let him out again - which is when the vets is closed! We have to get it to them within 12 hours of collection to check to see if he has crystals - had this with Bardsley and he cost us £1,500 - we don't have sort of money now so if he has it then it is only the early stages and he can be treated with special food.

Other alternative is going to cost a fortune as he would have to be admitted to the vets and they get it via an jab directly into his bladder - OK too much detail but that is why!

RuthyS
21-04-2008, 08:34 PM
I know EXACTLY how hard it is Helen, I couldn't get our cat to tinkle on those bead things for love or bribery !! We gave up in the end and the vet gave us medicine anyway. Have to say that it didn't cost anywhere near that, thank goodness. I hope poor puss is ok, give him a stroke for me.

madhattermillie
21-04-2008, 08:35 PM

Ruth Bardsley only cost us that much in the end cause he had to have two major operations to help him as the crystals were so bad that the diet alone was not enough! Everyone said we shoudl have given up on him but we did not and he had another 7 years with us. Still miss him and Ebs like crazy! Tangle and Cheshire are great don't get me wrong but you cannot have two cats like those two and not have them for 17 years without leaving a huge hole in your life!

RuthyS
21-04-2008, 10:47 PM
Poor thing ! I hope that you don't have to go thro that again, I can't imagine how hard it is. Our friends just rescued a cat and they had to fill in a survey on how much they would spend on vets fees and they said it just right - you spend what you have to. I love our furry friend and she is not even really ours, we are just babysitting her. I would love to get one of our own but I know what you mean about the new ones - I love Smudge and I would be frightened that a new cat would not be as sweet as her.

Tan I haven't joined in with the banter either, has anyone else ?

Had road rage coming over the Runcorn Widnes bridge...I queued for nerly an hour and some guy in a white transit van just shot down the outside lane and tried to cut in in front of me at the last possible point, nearly pushing me off the road...I was a bit cross but he got out of his van and came storming over to the car...banging on the roof saying he was going to pull me out of the car and give me what for....until I calmly lifted my phone to the window and dialled 999.....a bit scary huh.....

aww mandi, thats terrible! last time that was done to me, i was a headstrong young thing - bloke blocked the road in front of me, a car was behind, he got out shouting that i didnt indicate, so i got out of my mini with my steering lock! naughty i know but he soon got back in his car! crikey, that was about 8 or 9 years ago!

Well today is a bit of a quiet day, sydney is going to have an early nap as she had a bad night, i think her fangs are coming through and it unsettles her for 2 or 3 nights.

Almost forgot to ask, at what sort of age do i turn the cot into a bed? she stands in there now almost climbing over the sides, and its quite a long drop!

EmilyLovedHim
22-04-2008, 11:27 AM
Morning all - glad it was better today Mandi.

DD went into the bed part of her cot bed at 21 months (just checked back on the digi photos!) but is she is climbing out might be time to get her into the bed. We did not bother with the safety sides - just left a duvet on the floor next to her in case she fell out which she did a couple of time! Sorry this makes me sound like a dreadful mother but after she had done it she soon learnt not to! Another of life's lessons, but obviously it is up to you what you do but thought you might to know how we coped (and saved money of course )

Just read that back I sound like a completely dreadful mum letting her fall out of bed!

Back at school today and I forgot to take her dinner money and did not have enough on me so I can pay it later luckily. She is also back in her summer dress which she is really pleased about, back into a new routine now as we have dancing on a Tuesday instead of a Thursday.

Have a good day all!

madhattermillie
22-04-2008, 11:37 AM
hmm, she is only 16months, but trying her best to climb out! and, forgive me if this sounds bad, but i agree about the letting her fall out of bed! lol! Although we are going to put her cot bumper on the wall on a curtain pole in case she headbuts the wall! (i used to do it, and she regularly headbutts the cot too!)

EmilyLovedHim
22-04-2008, 12:18 PM
Fair enough with the headbutting OUCH! The way I look at it is that if they never get the chance to fall out of bed then they will never learn not to!

The pieces of paper I journalled on is one of my new journalling stamps that I could not get at Ally Pally but the lovely Paul sent to me post free afterwards. They are from stampsaway and they have a website if you want to do mail order, or I know that Rebecca here (http://www.rebeccasscrapbookingstash.co.uk/default.aspx) will have them very soon!

I just stamped them with green ink and then used a Galaxy marker to add the pink to tone in. Another yummy one I have is the round one with the scallops! You can see it here (http://www.craftswholesale.co.uk/Catalogue.asp?Parent=ZZZSANEW&Show=ZSANEWG&ShowDesc=Stamps%20Away!%20-%20Picture%20Stamps&Search=journaling&Page=1&Ditem=ZSAK1008) - not a sponsor so have a quick look before I get into trouble!

Just read your comment Ruth - thank you for the comment on my handwriting as my parents both hate it and so I have a bit of a complex about it. Jo, I think if they are climbing out they are safer in a bed even if they do fall out a couple of times. When we lived in London my friends little girl fell out of the cot and gave herself a green stick fracture in her arm!!

Ruthy, that will be such a great way to document the next year for you, it's going to be amazing pictures.

Mandi, hope you have recovered from the trauma of your road rage incident. Some people are such t**ts.

Gary is going to the chiropractor tomorrow as he went to work today but only managed an hour before he had to call me to get him. The doctor has signed him off for a week, so he'll be able to rest (and get under my feet although I didn't say that!!!)

Looks like the Shimelle challenge will be a great chance to use my BIA! Nic thing is that I get some thickish card from work that will do the covers - just hoping that the wires I got will be big enough as the biggest I could get from craft superstore were the 3/4" ones! Jo do you think I will be OK with these??

Charlotte and I just watched Britains Next Top Model as we missed it last night, it just seems a bit less glitzy than the American version but maybe I'll get used to it with time.

I'm finishing off the album cover for Shimelles class thing now. Gary's watching football at his mum's so I guess he'll be back soonish.

Have not started mine yet but I am going to give it a go - maybe we can all spur each other on!

Don't forget to vote either - see first post for the link.

Sorry another question. I have been looking at the DCWV paper stack kits. Are they any good and worth the money?
