8am is not early we have had the painter at our house at 7am.
My husband & son both joiners leave for work at 7am.
They are not home until 5.45, a long day for them.
8am would be an an inconvenience on a school day though.

Kara hope your joiner turned up but not too early, know what you mean Dawn about school days it gets a bit manic around about 8am here.

Been snowing again last night, wish the weather would change fed up of it being cold now.

Jacqui - the demo went well and got 5 new scrappers signed up for our new beginners scrapbooking course starting next Sunday as well as some regular crafters wanting to start :)
Demoing again this Saturday as well - this time it is the Tattered Angels Glimmer mists which I am really looking forward to experimenting with :)
We used to have workmen turning up really early when we lived in RAF quarters :(

Morning girls
Good to hear your all busy crafting, I dont know about snow its a lovely day here, sun is shining and I might even be warm at work today.
Hello to Sonja and Teaghan, we used to have a lot of south/central Scoltand girls on this thread they will still be about.
Jo, thanks for your comment, we ended up in the rock pools too last night, no use for taking photos as the it was getting dark, DD was tickled to find and touch a star fish, simple things!
A quick tidy up and out the door again for me, enjoy your day.

Don't talk to me about workmen and RAF quarters - they don't seem to understand that some women go out to work too!!
Beautiful day here - have done the HW but now have no inspiration to do anything else!

Hello all, Diane that is great you have so many new people showing an interest.
Wish the shop you worked on or Karen's shop was nearer to me!!
I am going up to Grantown on Spey this weekend but doubt I'll manage to get to Karen's unless I drop DH and kids at McDs
When do you move shops Karen? Where is your new one going to be? Jo did tell me at the crop but I have forgotten.

Dawn - whats this ticker about - romantic weekend in Amterdam??;);)
We are just going for our 40th birthday, our birthdays land in the winter, we waited for spring.
Should be pretty with all the bulbs, going to fit in a day at Keukenhof.
Just can't make my mind up about a hotel, so indecisive.

Luckily I lost my accent!!
it was just a quote this morning for 2 sets of patio doors and a glass screen. asked the guy in january to come but hes been busy. still need another couple of quotes but its really difficult getting someone to do small jobs like this.
it was lovely having all the HW done by 8am, the kids were amazed that they got to watch tv, but it was the only way to stop them messing it up!
ds1 had a hearing test at the sick kids again today, parking was a complete nightmare, took about 45 mins to find a space, luckily the appointments were running late. hes got 1 ear a bit blocked up again so i'll have to put him back on the low-dairy diet i did before as it seamed to work.

evening all! :)
Jaqui, I don't if you meant me or the other Heather [who I don't think I have seen around so much].. I wasn't on holiday and was still reading the thread, maybe just haven't posted as much as I thought I had!
Don't talk to me about the weather today! I think it has been really nice except for the 15 minutes when we were outside at 9am because the fire alarm went off. The rain was torrential, almost hail stones, and I was in just a t-shirt. Left my sweatshirt at our section which was the other end of the warehouse [and behind the big roller doors that automatically close when the alarm goes off..] and didn't even take a jacket to work - that'll teach me to think its going to be a nice day! I was soaked and chanking by the time we got back in!! :(
typically it was gorgeous when I got home again! sods law!

I know what you mean getting a parking space is a nightmare at ARI.
Yes decent joiners are always busy& never need to advertise.
Jo, there is a house along the road from me for sale it is a bit dated inside though.
They built a brand new house in their garden.
Kingswells,Westhill,Cults, Milltimber are probably the dearest suburbs.
Inverurie was getting dearer too.
There is back roads to Westhill from most areas.
Good luck with your husbands interview.

Jacqui don't worry it is the shoulder one, not the wheely.
If you are not selling your bag then don't take a tote.
Depends on the colour I end up whether I keep it or not, prefer the green one.

Hiya Vicki. Welcome to the thread!
Yes, you cna easily print on the cardstock - easier if your printer feeds the paper from the top.

Hi,
Hope someone can help me - my Tag-along finally arrived yesterday and I've been having a play with it - but I think I've done something wrong, the top cutting pad (the one with all the cuts on it from die cutting) is all warped - any ideas what I've done (it's still works but I suspect this shouldn't have happened so I want to avoid it happening again when I get new pads).
I've been having a lot of fun playing with my new toy - but now I want to buy tweezers to pick the totey wee bits up - my fingers are behaving like thumbs! What kind of glue do you use to stick these minute bits together (I've got the doughnuts and frosting alpabet set and the frosting bits are so tiny I can't even pick them up).
Thanks for your help

Vicki
Hi Vicki
The cutting mats do that on the Tag along - just remember to turn them over and use them on both sides so it should sort itself out but they do work ok. I use my Xyron x machine to stick the letters down, you feed them through and it makes them into stickers, either that or a quickie glue pen. Hope that helps :)

Like Diane I use my Xyron too but tend to run a narrow piece of card through the Xyron first before cutting when I'm working with small bits - that way they are just like stickers once you've cut them.
What is you avatar Vicki - Is that a weeping angel I spy? If not then just ignore me...I am seeing Dr Who references all over the place at the moment

depends how big you want - I only have the little one (it can take card of about 1 1/2" across max but any length)
Plus the little one is cheap to buy and for refills, plus you can even pick it up at some tescos now.

Afternoon all,
I have to say my DS1 was terrified by the weeping angels :unsure:and even now when we go to the garden centres avoids all the statues! I thought it was great.
I have a large and a small xyron and find I use the smaller one more than the big one which is gathering dust as we speak. Or as Diane mentioned a fine glue pen does the job.
As for your machine your plates will change shape, just do as Diane suggested and rotate them around.
HW done for today and waxed, away to do some cards, happy crafting.

HI Isobel, if I get the lilac one I can swap with someone, seems a popular colour so I should have no probs, prefer the green.
I got the email too I liked the architecture(Karen Burniston class)featured glad Iam doing it.
Well if I get a green one I'll swap with you coz I don't really mind which colour but would prefer black.
I'm taking Karen's class on Sunday morning, I don't really like her way of teaching (makes me feel like a 5 year old) but the end result is always fabulous.

party was really good, the staff were praising them all sitting for their food, the said kids are normally all over the place, jumping about ect, but the majority have/had me for playgroup so they were all little angels. my boys are a bit grumpy as they are tored but there are too many cool new toys to play with to think about bed, better go and be the bad guy!

I've been practicing my die cutting since getting my tag along - just using some regular card from the pound shop. I made my first card, well I say I made it but actually it was a joint effort between me and DD (age 4) for my mum who is in hospital - she didn't even realise it was home made - I was very pleased - surprised but pleased. It was an okay effort - very simple as I have no stash. How on earth do I build up a stash without breaking the bank? I've got a die cutting class at Craftology in Hillington next week so I'm hoping for great things following that!
Quick question, does anyone use wall paper as backing paper for their cards (I'm not doing scrap booking, just card making). I was in B&Q today and was sorely tempted to take a few "samples" of some the the wall papers. Also, I don't have any rubber stamps / ink but I was wondering if I could pretend - by printing out images on card and then colouring them a bit - probably that would just look naff though eh?
I need some stash - can anyone recommend how I do that please!!!
Thanks for all the nice comments about Blink - he's written a 2-parter for this season - I think they are 8&9 or 9&10.

Guess you could use wallpaper for cards.
I just built up supplies, everything used to fit in a plastic 12x12 paper holder, when I first started..
6x6 pads of paper are ideal for cardmaking. Basic Grey, K &Co all do this size.
Look in the marketplace on here, you may get some bargains, people selling unwanted items at bargain prices.
But do check the prices, some items are not priced low enough.
maggiemae
20-04-2008, 03:51 PM
Some of the wallpaper samples would make lovely cards.
You could always have a look at some of the digi sites - they have free papers but then you do have to take account the cost of using your own computer paper and ink to print them out so I'm not sure how the cost would compare.

I've done my first card - I've uploaded it to the gallery but I have no idea how to put a thumbnail or whatever in here. I did it this afternoon quite quickly with my 4 yr old grabbing everything that I put down so not the ideal working conditions. I also have no stash, just some card blanks, my tagalong (and some die cutters) and some free paper samples I got from readicut. I'd love to add something to it later but as I say I haven't got anything else at all so it's very plain. The shiny paper is actually not as shiny in real life - more of a sheen really but the flash really made it stand out. The patterned paper is a digital download from shabbyprincess.
Constructive criticism most welcome (but sugar coat it please, I'm very nervous)

Morning, hope the sun is shining where you are. What are you all up to today?
Erika - How could you?:P Well our little bunny rabbit that was rehomed for the benefit of DS1 is propbably still terrorising the wild rabbits around West Lothian as we speak, DH took him up the woods and let him out of the box, by the time he came back I had chopped the hutch into tiny peices with an axe - so NO MORE BUNNY RABBITS!!!!
DH away today just for a couple of nights so hopefully will get a bit of time to scrap for me later, have a good day everyone x

We have gerbils - they are great pets - so inquisitive and friendly. They aren't nocturnal either so they play on and off all day.
I too ended up with vet bills for them though ... Lesson learned - £120 for operation (yes operation) and medicine for gerbil that survived only for another two weeks. £3.95 for new gerbil!!

We had a Holland dwarf rabbit called Flopsy - dwarf my a**!!! It was huge!
We nicknamed it the grumphy rabbit as it hated being handled and used to kick and scratch like mad with its hind legs.
We kept it indoors when it was little and litter trained it!! However when it got big it went outdoors but still used the litter tray in its hutch - made cleaning up easy. We rehomed it when we moved in with the inlaws whilst moving house as their dogs would have killed it (our dog was fine with it) however in the new house it was killed when a neighbours dog got hold of it - sad ending, I felt really bad.
We don't have our dog now either, it was a Cavalier King Charles called Lady, we kept her for 9 years then rehomed her too after she bit our eldest son. It wasn't her fault she had had enough of him annoying her but I was worried about Peter as he was just a baby then and didn't know to stay away when she growled. Sadly Lady died 9months after being rehomed, however at least she spent end of her life in peace.

I have just been visiting a farm this evening with the kids church club I help at. We saw four lambs being born whilst there - everyone was so excited!!!
Had to laugh at my boys on the bus on the way home, very matter of factly speaking about the baby lambs coming out of the sheep's bum!! I jumped in and told them it was a special bit - I had my soon to be 6yr old nephew with me and his mum (my sister) is due in 12 weeks - she about died when I told her what I had told them :D:D

We've just moved to Edinburgh from Melbourne where there was lots of crops to choose from and until I found UKS, I was a bit concerned I'd be all alone! I'm very pleased to have found you guys!
I'm looking forward to participating in some of the cyber crops and classes but I'd love to do a real life crop too - are there any in Edinburgh? When I looked in the yellow pages I couldn't even find a dedicated shop - just sections of other arts and crafts shops.
Cheers

Looking for your expert advice!
I've been mooching around your blogs and you all do such fantastic stuff! I've done my second card now (by the way, thank you for your lovely comments on my first attempt) and I'm quite pleased with it -still a bit plain (but I'm still limited to printable paper, a few sample sheets and now some brads). I seem to find it impossible not to do things symmetrical - so I'll have to set myself a wee challenge there! Anyway - as I said - I want to pick your brains - I see a lot of cards/layouts with layers where the edge of the layer has been darkened, presumably with ink or something - can someone enlighten me, it looks lovely. Also - corners - either rounded or rounded in the opposite direction (I hope that makes sense cos I can't think how to describe it) again what do you use to acheive this look?
If I'm not making sense please let me know!

Thanks for the welcome and the crop suggestions everyone, I'm looking forward to it already!
IslaBella, I use ink pads to darken my edges, just brush the edge of the paper along the flat of the ink pad. Its very easy and once you've got the hang of it you can make different effects depending on the angle you hold the paper. You can also do it with paints but I'm usually too lazy to get them out when I've got an ink pad handy.

The one I use most is an antique brown (brand is Vivid) as although I have a black one, it can be a bit harsh with some layouts. I also have a few Versa inkpads which I assume are available over here - they are only small and come in all the colours of the rainbow for not much each. I find many of my layouts have the same tones so I tend to use the same colours again.
If you don't want to spend the money yet, do your kids have paints? You can use those too. Its amazing what you can find lying around the house that can be stuck on a layout!

Morning all
Welcome to the mad house Helmil, hope you enjoy Edinburgh. I worked there for about 6 years, it is a lovely city. I'm afraid my favourite stamp shop there is no more now but I'm sure some of the local girls will manage to help you out.
Vicki the rounded edges are punches that you can pick up from most craft shops. Karen did have the concaved one on the Funky kit site but not sure if she still does. I prefer Colorbox chalk inks for inking around edges in particular creamy brown (One of Dawn's fav's too, I think) and chestnut roan, a darker brown, but you can use chalks or paints if you haven't got.
Nearly forgot my boys are 3 and 9, I was asked earlier.
Diane hope you are feeling better soon.
Jacqui, I've got plenty of HW here if you've finished yours!

Mine are 7 and 10 and have never asked about condoms. They did ask what a scrotum was - and I said ask your father!!

Hello all, was listening to radio 2 at lunchtime and they were talking about what to tell and when to tell your kids, opposite views, I've told when asked and I do use the ask your dad quite a lot!
Been grooming the dogs today, thats them all stripped for summer, 2 full bin bags of hair and a sore wrist and shoulder, the good news is DH is stopping at M & S on the way home for tea.
I love the chesnut roan chalk ink and have all the colorbox stack colours, really love to use them.
Welcome Helmil, Edinburgh is my home town, miss it so much now live 30 miles west of Aberdeen. There used to be a good crop in Dalkieth don't know if it's still going and there was one in Linlithgow that was pretty good as for shops theres not many but Perth is only an hour away for some retail therapy!

DS is 11 and had Sex Education earlier this year. he told us straight out that he knew what girls had and what happened every month to them. I just said yes to everything as I thought there's no point saying anything else. he's forgotten all about it now. DH has been told that when the time comes it's his department not mine!!!

My son only asked about condoms because he was down at the park and one of the kids found one:huh:, yeuk! That will be the older kids then?!*
I was told to answer the question honestly but vaguely and not to give too much info too early.:P They pick lots up at school from the older ones anyway, whether you like it or not.;)

My daughter is 9 and we've had the talk so she knows exactly how babies are made and how they get out. I took a very matter of fact approach and even explained exactly what sex was and she was so disgusted by the whole conversation that she has vowed never to even touch a boy, ever! Then to top it all off she asked what condoms were (there was a machine in the loo) so I told her it was when grown ups wanted to have sex for fun and not make a baby. The horrified look on her face was priceless, oh for a camera.
Thanks for the welcome all. I'm really enjoying Edinburgh so far - it was verging on warm today. I can't decide if it has warmed up or I'm starting to acclimatize.

Good luck with the house Kara. We are thinking about renting for a while to see what the house prices do - there is a definate slow down here in Elgin.
I have printed that class off too - looks stunning but will take me a month of Sundays to do!

Morning:)
I've not been totally inspired by the classes so far, but am enjoying the challenges. Just waiting for the Bubbly funk class this afternoon as that's the one kit I bought.
