Hello girls:D and welcome to our April 'lounge'! I will try to be a bit more visible this month (I Promise!) but between my classes, workshops and 'load shedding' it is sometimes difficult!

Chat away, and have fun!

Hi ladies :)

I know what you mean, Corrin, it's been lovely and sunny here today (and even quite warm :o) and everyone at work was in a better mood, good weather definitely brings out the best in people.

You know what I was saying about it being nice and sunny yesterday ............. it didn't last long :( Today is quite dull and the forecast for the weekend is SNOW :o

Isn't it supposed to be Spring or something?

Anyway how are you all today? I managed to get a mystery kit for the CC last night so I'm really, really excited

hi everyone I'm back!!!

just a wonderful time at disneyland, we are all hobbling from so much walking and long long days. I have never eaten so much junk or screamed so much on the rollercoasters! we went on tower of terror and I screamed and screamed then realised we'd onlly been going up and still had the scary plummet to go but there was no more scream left in me so I had to whimper

loved the rides, the buildings, the music coming out of the bushes and the girls loved getting autographs from the characters then kissing them on the cheek.

hmmm I wonder what photos I'll be using in the cc

off to find the mystery kit bye!

Oh glad you enjoyed Disneyland Paris Lindsey :) There is definitely something special about disney isn't there. For little kids and big kids :)

We've not had too great a day today, dh had a bump with his car while out working. Car doesn't look too bad but might still be a write-off, just need to wait what the insurance company say. DH is a bit shaken, he only passed his test 3 years ago and this is the first time he's been in any kind of an accident. Tried to explain that it doesn't matter, no-one was hurt which is the main thing. At the end of the day it's only a car!

Oh well, we've had a bottle of wine to ease the shock :o Feeling a bit better now

Our cat was a dark tabby and sometimes when its just getting dusk and in the shadows its easy to forget she's not around or a pile of something eg jumpers etc just looks like she's curled up asleep! That's what i mean Lindsey!

Sorry to hear of the accident Biff but you're right the only thing that really matters is that no one was hurt! Just a pain about the car!

Glad your exams went well Jayne now you can concentrate on CC:lol::lol::lol:

Morning all!

Glad to hear exams are over Jayne... must be a relief!

Hilary... your'e not the only one! I 'see' my dead cat all over my house. I am a bit of a cat lover actually, I have 4 (only 3 live with us though... number 4pays us short visits and lives next door mostly now)
When does the kitty arrive Lindsey?

Glad you had a fab Disney holiday! I forgot about the 'musical bushes' haha! what always got me though was the smell of Disney (always smells of sugar) sounds like you had a great time... its one of those holidays that you need a holiday from when you get back though

Biff, sorry to hear about the car accident. I hope the insurance sorts it out quickly for you both!

ah! just noticed you are getting your kitten in 3 hours Lindsey.

well good luck with that, want to see photos ASAP (and I hope you are not too attached to your curtains or ornaments!!!!!)

biff103
05-04-2008, 10:03 AM
Oh yeah Lindsey we need kitten photos asap. Definite cat person here. Although at times Jack can be a complete monster

Jemm, glad to hear your exams went well, at least you've got a few weeks rest before the next one!

Thanks for all your comments on dh! His car doesn't actually look too bad but I think there is some chassis damage, so depending on how bad that is could depend on what decision is made. It's 9 years old so it might cost more to fix it than it's worth :( Mind you, no point in jumping to conclusions until we know for sure.

Just need to hope my road tax disc arrives in the post today, so we can use my car  It's been one of those weeks for us when it comes to cars. Still haven't found my MOT certificate but at least I was able to order my tax online. Really makes you think just how much you rely on cars, when you don't have instant access to them

we're going to the rescue centre this afternoon, just hope they have one we can take away as it's for dd2's birthday (she was 6 the day before we went on hol)

05-04-2008, 11:51 AM
very relaxing thanks! weather wasnt that great, alternating days of lovely sunshine... then a cold drizzly day. Still.... great to have the break.
We are going back in June for a week, then 2 weeks in August... and another week in autumn if I can swing it!!!

When we got our cat from the rescue centre (9 years ago) we had to wait for a few days to have a 'home visit' (you may have already had that done) then we just went in and chose him (although he has subsequently chosen our next door neighbours!!!)
Hope you manage to get your kitty today... still want piccies though!

Nope, I'm here :) I've been popping on and off all day, in between hanging washing out, food shopping :( and making cards for the CC homemade card swap.

I was quite pleased with mine but they are nowhere as good as your Corrin  Those Penny Black stamps are so cute, seriously need to think about getting myself one or two.

I Love them!

Are you going to post your cards up for us to admire?

biff103
05-04-2008, 09:02 PM
I can't put the cards up just now cos they are for the swap in the CC. But I'll take photos and post them later.

Actually thinking about redoing one of them, more I think about it I'm not really that pleased with it, would do for me but maybe not to swap it with someone

Mind you they dont need to be posted until the 20th or thereabouts so I might make another load before then

Have you got anything nice planned for this evening? Just me and the cat tonight, so I'm debating between vegging out in front of the TV or getting trying to start on the CC mystery kit, got an idea of what to do, just not sure how! Actually I need to look out 'comedy' photos as that is the theme of our kit.

charlie bucket
05-04-2008, 09:09 PM
well at the moment we are sitting through tonights episode of Dr who for the second time... DS3 is a HUGE fan.

Ahh right, I missed that they were for a swap. I'm sure they are beautiful cards, all the other cards you have posted up for us to see have been lovely.

I havent actually got very involved in the CC yet... I dont usually until the actual weekend.
I did notice our team mystery kit sold out in super fast time (just as well I didnt want one!)
Was your kit £10 too? and more importantly do you think it was good value?

Hilary78
05-04-2008, 09:21 PM
Your cards are lovely Corrin - I love the watercolour effect -must try that!

I've been in Sheffield all day with DD2 - altered book workshop. I enjoyed the day and had a go at some interesting ideas/techniques but I don't think I'd better start any new projects just at the moment - well.... apart from new scrapping ideas, CC, painting with light course.........

had a go at the quiz last night - i thought I'd done better than I had - so much for so much effort looking for the answers! I'm better at just chatting!!

great cards corrin, I have a similar stamp which I hardly use. its not penny black or magnolia though. might get it out tonight then I can paint in front of the telly. we watched dr who too, not sure about catherine tate. I keep expecting her to say 'am i bovvered though?'

well we got a cat, a 2 year old girl which we have called lilo. she loves me but just scratched dh tee hee!
she is v playful and into everything which delights the girls. will try and get a pic tomorrow

biff103
05-04-2008, 09:33 PM
Aww Lindsey Lilo sounds lovely :) and a very apt name considering where you've just been!

Corrin, our kit was £10 and I'm pretty impressed with, got a few chipboard pieces in it so they usually increase the price, in fact it's seems to have a little bit of everything. Just need to figure out how to put my plan into motion

Edit: Forgot to ask, Hilary how are you getting on with the PWL course. Have you taken any photos for this week task. I'm still trying to get inspiration from somewhere! Don't know where from yet, just hoping I'll feel inspired tomorrow (and that it's sunny again).

Morning all!!!

Cant wait to see piccies of Lilo!

My kids loved the episode of Dr Who last night... wonder if you can get an Adipose at the rescue centre, they were sooooo cute:lol:
I quite liked Catherine tate last night (wasnt sure on the xmas episode 2 years ago) and there was a huge cheer in our house when Billie Piper turned up at the end (ds1 and ds2... both teens ... big fans)

I have enjoyed water colouring the images I stamped, very relaxing infront of the telly... so I joined a couple of image swaps yesterday

Well, whats everyone doing today? Im going in to work to do my 4th sleep of the week tonight (never putting myself down for 4 again... Im knackered!)

hey! what about your new years resolution???? I bet you couldn't resist

I did the stamped journalling block swap last month and I love having 100 to choose from now! the only thing is sometimes it would be better to stamp straight on the LO, but never mind, it was still a fab swap

Hilary78
06-04-2008, 11:14 AM
Well - I've got up late for a start:lol::lol::lol: that doesn't happen very often!

It's lovely and sunny here so DH and I are going to do some gardening. We had the drive done last year and had a patio made at the same time. I like 'pot' growing so we have a huge number of small pots which we are going to sort out , get rid of some and place the rest artistically! - that's my job!!!
DH's job is to do do the shifting around! The ones we don't want I will take to school for the little ones to plant bulbs and herbs. One class wants to grow veg but I think I can get funding to put in larger beds for that.
After that I'm hoping to do some Craft room sorting - 2 bags of stuff to sort after being at a workshop all day yesterday - and i have photos to take for the PWL......... I should have got up early!!

I think it was 50 for a cj... might be wrong though

new years resolutions were made to be broken... must dig that lo out and see if i actually stuck to one of them!!!
Stamped image swaps are quite a budget concious swap though... thats my excuse

No snow here in South Wales... thank goodness! its very pretty but I like it to melt by lunchtime.

Sounds like a busy day ahead for you Hilary!

Heres a question for you all.... where do you keep your stash?
I think compared to some on UKS I dont have a huge amount and it lives in a little cupboard in my lounge... and I also have one of those totes on wheels that my sizzix and dies/emobossing folders live in.... and my Cricut lives out in full view in my lounge (hes too big to put anywhere else)
I dont have a craft room... would love one, but suppose I would have to share it with DH and all this guitar stuff

I'm lucky to have a craft room - compensation for all the kids leaving home!! I really missed not having the house full of them and their friends. DH converted DS's bedroom into a fab craft room - so I don't now go upstairs and look at 3 empty bedroom!:(

Yes Elaine - i'm doing it and I think it's great too. I'm not doing it as lots of small projects though. I've decided to do a series of LOs in different sizes which I think I will BIA at the end. I really fancy ending up with a book which has a variety of different sized pages.

danemi1
06-04-2008, 05:01 PM
Enjoyed doing the doors one - although didnt think I would at the start - am doing a mammoth book at the mo - or it feels that way - about each room int he house starting with floor plan - dont get me wrong the bungalow isnt that big - its just hard narrowing the piccies down am ending up doing a few pages that open to reveal more photos of same room under - like I said think I am doing too much but I am enjoying myself so much with it - getting each page cut into house shape was erm fun if you can call it that - they arent 100% exact size but near enough...everyone is playing on the Wii now so I have moved all my stuff to the table in the same room and am going to do a bit more now. DId you do the christmas course that SHimelle ran I didnt but now I am doing this one - I wish that I had - maybe this year

I have a bureau/writing desk thing in my bedroom and a short filing cabinet next to it. and a pile of stuff on the floor next to that, which is growing

there's no room in the bureau for the new stuff though but its too big a job to sort it all out!

I either scrap on the bedroom floor or carry some down to the dining room table. I would love a craft room too. my eldest will be 18 in 2018

Hilary78
06-04-2008, 09:12 PM
Now, now! - don't you lot be counting the days 'til you can get your hands on a craft room:nono: just put all the kids in the same room - or the garage - or put up a shed in the garden!! seriously - time goes so quickly they're grown up before you feel you're old enough to have grown-up kids!!

does she do it every year? is it different prompts?

I have decided to do it this december. i'm planning to get my album ready with spaces for photos and journalling in advance, for some of the pages anyway, so I can stick and go!

having trouble keeping up with my a-z album. need to take pics in advance, don't i? I need to have them taken in daylight so they're ready to print out in the evening when I scrap. might do f tonight.

just thinking out loud...

I'm not sure Lindsey how long she's done it for but certainly before '06. Once you have paid your fee you are enrolled for ever! So this year I received the prompts which were very similar if not the same. I just think how you respond may change from one year to the next - but I really loved it when I did it. I wish I could have done it when my kids were young and then now to see if my views of christmas change much and it would have been lovely to have a photographic record of them at christmas.

The Shimelle christmas journal sounds good actually. Did consider in December there but we usually just have a quiet christmas so wasn't sure what I'd put in it!

Corrin, I'm lucky enough to have my own craft room and dh has his own room too (well it's supposed to be his office). One day we will probably have to end up sharing but in the meantime we've got a room each, luxury of having a 3 bed house and only 2 people living in it!

Well I started my cc planner last night, so I intend to finish that tonight and maybe get my door hanger done, so better get started or it'll be bedtime and I'll still be on uks chatting

I was very intrigued by the manequin class... couldnt work out what exactly it will be?

Am off work at the mo for a couple of weeks - missing Dad and needed some time out - so had yesterday and today for a bit of scrap therapy - only yesterday didnt turn out that way as remembered mammogram appointment and few other things I had to do - well hopefully I can have a good old scrap sess today - have drawn the blinds at the front of the bungalow and am chilling out here on my own - am I awful I really dont feel like ANY visitors today - no music - nothing - just a bit of ME TIME!!! We all need it sometimes dont we?

Completely agree Elaine, definitely need some time out, especially when you are grieving. I went back to work two days after my mum's funeral and I really should have taken some time out. There are even times now, nearly 13 years later, that I feel like I'm not coping. So take as much time as you need and deal with things at your own pace.

Naughty Lindsey for forcing you to eat chocolate  Now I want chocolate but we've none in the house :( Might be FORCED to run round to the wee shop for emergency supplies

Did you see Desperate Housewives last night? What do you think of the 'new' neighbour? Definitely very twisted, going to be interesting watching that one play out.

That was about all I got done last night, had great plans but it turned into one of those night when I ran about daft all night and achieved nothing  Oh well only today and tomorrow to go and then I've got a weeks holiday :D All I intend to do next week is play with paper and stick stuff together

hiya :D I've done nothing today, just vegged out of the sofa watching stuff I'd recorded on sky+ MONTHS ago! So now watched all of Journeyman and the last series of Ashes to Ashes.

DH is out tonight playing a gig so I've got myself a bottle of wine, some ice cream and I'm half way through a Penny Vincenzi book. Never read any of her books before and I'm really enjoying this one, it's all based around the Lloyds 'names' crash in the 80's. So I'm going to run myself a bath, pour a glass of wine and read my book. Then watch CSI:NY later :) Ideal Saturday night!

I'm just finishing watching it now (recorded when I was having my bath!) Not sure what I think about really. It's got a kind of Lemony Snickets feel about it, what with the narrator and stuff! Will need to watch next week to see.

Right I need to go to bed, sitting here yawning my head off. Catch you all tomorrow.

Today I've had to nurse a DH with 'man flu' He was feeling a bit snuffly yesterday and today it's a proper cold, although he has been trying to tell me it proper flu  Oh well it's something to do later in the week!

We've finally heard back from DH's insurance company - his car is definitely a write-off :( But on the flip side we have been offered slightly more than we thought it was worth. So we are now a one-car household again, and will be for the forseeable future, having two really was a luxury! So in an effort to reduce our debts and stop wasting money needlessly, we are sticking with one car and going to re-jig all our bills to try and reduce our outgoings  No sense spending more on bills than we have to!

Spend ages looking at things life a loaf of bread, checking prices, do I get the 95p loaf or the £1 loaf  but when I bought my car the other year I found two I liked, one was £400 more expensive and I was like, 'well it's only £400!'. This is just to let you know that I have been having some problems:
I am really battling to keep my head above water at the moment, and not able to spend as much time on the forum as I should, so I have stepped down as Team Leader for the Doodlebugs. Biff has taken over, and I am sure she will do a splendid job.

She pm'd me the other day to say she's been having some problems and wants to step down as both team leader and a team member. So she asked if I would take over as team leader :o I've said yes, really because Jane came across as being in a bind, but if anyone else has a desperate wish to do it, then just shout. I don't want anyone to feel as if I'm trodding on toes

Yeah, sharpies are basically marker pens. I've got mini ones in pink, orange, green and yellow (?) and now bigger ones in the usual red, black, blue & green but they are retractable! (I know it's ridiculous to get excited about marker pens but hey, small things ) Apparently you can get a white sharpie but I've never seen it anywhere.

Must admit we went into 'Paperchase' yesterday, the stationary shop. Oh I got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too excited, could have spent an absolute fortunte! And they didn't even have that much specifically on scrapbooking. Just loads of 'arty' type paper, tons of note books and billions of pens  Oh and loads of birthday cards that were *really* funny

Hi everyone - I think you are the perfect leader Biff! Enjoy the challenge(?) fun(?). You will be great!
I'm glad someone has mentioned ATCs - I received a parcel of assorted ATCs from Karen and I wasn't sure at all whose they were or where they should go!
I have: Beverley 6
7 angels - are those your Elaine?
5 mermaids - Lindsey?
4 birds - Corrin?
7 stars - yours Biff?

By the time I received them all in one parcel I had slightly lost the plot so wasn't sure where they went next!!!!
So - if you all like to PM your addresses I'll send them home.

Hilary78
17-04-2008, 08:24 PM
Right - I'll add mine to each set and then I could post them to their owners if you send me your address. Some sets are obviously smaller then others and i think they should have been sent to other people first. Corrin is right - it's so long since we started this and its gone astray a little! I felt my list sounded a bit like 12 days of Christmas!:lol::lol:

I got a pm FULL of apologies because I had been left the feedback intended for another member of our now finished CJ... not a good feedback comment.
She is very sorry and trying to get it deleted, hopefully this will happen as I want to put some stuff on the marketplace now... and I wouldnt be keen to buy from someone with a feedback comment like this one.

Shimelle's class does look intriguing, I do like scrapping the everyday stuff.

I am shattered tonight, Pete suggested we swap rooms yesterday so his office is now in my wee craft room and I've got the bigger room all to myself. Can't believe how long it has taken to get it into some kind of order, and I'm still not totally organised!

Well its my week for getting other peoples feedback and now orders!

I placed an order with stamping Bellas in Canada 2 weeks ago for 11 beautiful Bella stamps. Got a note from the post office yesterday saying my parcel was there but there was a charge of £14 on it (kind of expected that)
Went and paid for it... opened it... and 27 bella stamps fell out????:o all different (only 2 of them were ones I had ordered)

I have had to contact stamping Bellas to find out what to do next... Problem is I may have to pay postage back to Canada and pay a second lot of custom charges to get my right order.

Just wait and see what she has to say...

I dont have any Banana frog stamps but admired them greatly when I went to Ally Pally... was going to go back and get some but my friend was tired of walking around (who on earth wears high heels to Ally Pally!!!!)

Morning everyone, wasn't about much yesterday. Had great intentions of doing tons of scrapping then Pete realised his effects pedal thingy for his guitar wasn't working so we ended up driving half way round central scotland trying to buy a replacement  By the time we got home I decided I wasn't cooking so we went to Pizza Hut for dinner. Then we watched 'The Shawshank Redemption' on tv. Forgot how good that film is, I could watch Morgan Freeman forever, he is such a great actor. Very underrated in my little opinion :)

So today the plan is to do the scrapping I had intended to do yesterday  And I need to take some photos for this weeks' module in Painting with Light!!!!

still think it will be a brill challenge
we also had ribbons
lots of 'white' space
something else?

I knew you lot would remember, my memory is totally pants. I'm convinced that for every new thing I learn something else falls out of my brain :o Only got so much space for info!

Right then we have

use the sketch
ribbons
'white' space

Weren't we going to go for 6x12 size or am I making that up?

That's right Hilary, doodling!!!!!!! (which I'm still rubbish at!)

so, sketch, ribbons, 'white' space, doodling and possibly 6x12?

Or maybe all we should say about size is, 'try something different from your normal', i.e. if you usually work in 12x12 try 8x8 or 8x11? Yes/no? I'm open to suggestions!

Hilary78
22-04-2008, 09:48 PM

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: That's funny, you mean I'm suppose to know what to do next :lol::P

Right so we're going for the following (with suggested points!)

sketch (provided by Corrin) - 5pts
ribbons - 5pts
white space - 5pts
doodling - 5pts
different size from your normal layouts- 10pts

So let's start to do our layouts, will we say by next Wednesday, what will be 30 April. In the meantime I'll pm Karen (scrapdolly) to find out what the next step is.

I did invest in a couple pf 8 by 8 albums - but apart from that _ I have made paperbag books which are obviously not 12 by 12 - they vary - and also I have made little 6 by 6 and 8 by 8@s and made a cover and hole punched the sides and put a couple of book rings in them - then prettied the book rings up with ribbon

Another thing I have done very recently thanks to Shimmelles course is have an album with different size pages in - did nt think I would like it but its great - adds interest
