April Week 1 team challenge has been set by The Lavender Lovelies and can be found here (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=216360).
Hi and welcome to the April Week 1 challenge hosted by our team the Lavender Lovelies, we do hope you like the challenge we have set for you.
Since 1967, on or around Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, 2 April, International Children's Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books, therefore we would like you to use a fairytale / fantasy / or childrens book title theme for your layout.
Its April Fools day on April 1st so please 'fool us' , you could include some hidden journalling or maybe use something surprising on your Layout that wouldnt normally be used for scrapping.
Also in relation to April 1st ..... in 1891 the Wrigleys Company was started , As a bit of a giggle please use something 'wriggly ' on your layout , this could be ric rac or wavy lines maybe or even scallops .
As it is hopefully going to become more springlike please use spring colours on your layout , these do NOT have to be pastel , but we are thinking along the lines of blues, pinks, greens , yellows, white etc.
To celebrate the clocks changing this past weekend to British Summertime please use a clock or time on your layout , the time can be within the journalling.
So to summarise :
Fairytale / fantasy / or childrens book title theme - 10 points
April Fools element - something not as it seems or hidden etc - 5 points
To celebrate Wrigleys company starting on 1st April 1891 - use wavy lines on your layout - 5 points
Spring colours (do not have to be pastel) - 5 points
Use a clock or time on your layout - 5 points
Tru's layout (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=154809)
Olive's layout (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=154972)
Anita's layout (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=155321&cat=503)
Jen's layout (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=155471&cat=500&ppuser=7959)

Fab area Kevin....and it is so tidy!!
Can some of the Magnolia/Sugar Nellie experts give me some advice please.
There is a great tutorial here (http://ingemg.wordpress.com/tutorial/) using prismacolor pencils, sansador and paper stumps. However I am confused as it soesn't say what type of colouring pencils to use....up until Kevin's post in the March thread I assumed it would be water colour pencils.
I got some sansador and tortillions (paper stumps) today and tried with the "cheap" set of water colour pencils that I have and it did work, infact because they were cheap (8.99) it worked better than with the water which left a harsh line. However perhaps it would work even better with the right pencils.
The prismacolor website is here (http://www.prismacolor.com/sanford/consumer/prismacolor/product/category.jhtml?cat=SNPRCat100001).

Hi Sharon...I just use watercolour pencils and water!.....I have a set from WH smith and some Faber Castell watercolours....I don't really understand the sansador thing!....hope this helps
Tx
love the new desk kevin , will it stay tidy ??.....no i bet it will not , mine is always such a mess
i was at a crop and a girl next to me was doing some colouring with very cheap pencil crayons and sansador , the sansador is an oil based carrier thing that blends the pencils together beautifully, and it does not mark the paper at all , this means you can get the nice shading , so you dont have to buy the expensive prisma pencils or such like , the girl at the crop was using this box of 50 pencils she had bought at "the works " for £3.99,graffix was the brand name .

I have this minute finished watching a fab tutorial on youtube here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCCo9799dWo&feature=related)
I got sansador etc from www.artifolk.co.uk

New desk looks great Kevin, will it stay that tidy though :P !!!
Thoroughly confused about all these diff ways of colouring in, i had just presumed people used pencils
Did a 12 x 12 jigsaw page today, will try and get it photographed later, very fiddly to do, but a bit different

Sharon, what the other fab girlies have said is right.
Using watercolours and water is fine. Sansador is used normally for ordinary colouring pencils and not for watercolours, in order to make the colour blend as normal pencils don't blend with water.
The prismas are (I am let to believe) the highest quality colouring pencils on the market and that's why many people use them. For me, a good quality set of watercolours is all I need. I have a new set of Caran D'Ache Swisscolours and they're fab!

Thanks Kevin. :)
I am begiining to understand now. I bought a cheap set of watercolour from Staples a few days ago for £8.99 / pk of 24 however I have just been in to my loft and dug out a more expensive set that I bought around 16-20 years ago when I wat at uni!! Need to try them out.
I am having a go at making my own background for inchies at the moment. Cam on here whilst the gel medium dries. I am trying something out for a CJ I am in. The one I received today is called Poems and Quotes, I have decided not to go for sentimental quotes but chinese proverbs as they are so tongue in cheek and witty. I am thinking about making inchies and putting proverbs on each.
And on that note I will leave you with a chinese proverb: Never employ a handsome servant ;)
kevie192
02-04-2008, 12:31 PM
What on earth are inchies!?
crafty pants
02-04-2008, 02:59 PM
Inchies are small 1" squares that are made the sam way as ATC's
see here:
http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=inchies&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi
I made mine by attaching torn pieces out of a book on to 12x12" card using gel medium, when almost dry I peeled back some of the book pages to reveal the reverse print underneath. I then painted the whole sheet with three shades of Adirondack paint. When dry I stamped a large background stamp randomly over the sheet. Plus I stamped a medium stamp and small stamp in the spaces with a contrasting colour.
Once dry if making inchies you would cut the card into 144 squares and then decorate in your chosen accent etc however I decided to cut mine into 1 1/2" squares and 3/4" x 3" strips.
I will print the chinese proverbs on to vellum, tear them and stick onto my background strips/squares.
Well I hope it works out. I am pleased with my background though, it came out really well.

Anyone put any thought to our challenge?
I will try and browse sites for sketches this week.
It would be good if we could decide on it for the end of May so we have plenty time to get our own LOs made.
kevie192
02-04-2008, 11:07 PM
Sounds great Sharon... I'd love to see when you've finished! :D
As for the challenge, a few ideas:
Something glittery
Something to do with talking/chatting?
Just a few ideas!
crafty pants
02-04-2008, 11:14 PM
Sounds good kevin. Yes as soon as I have completed the CJ entry I will show you. I will also take a photo of my background before it was altered as I still have half a sheet uncut.
As for the challenge....yes I agree definitely need glitter...goes without saying!!
I thought that for the gossip part to represent gossip/talking they could use speech marks/quotation marks in the LO. ( these are very popular at moment...lots of stamps/tags on the market with speech marks)
Kim, or was it Sarah (;)?) had a good idea of including something to do with Independence day as our challenge is the July week 1 one.....so perhaps stars/stripes or red/white/blue or something totally different to do with independence day.

Thanks Sharon, I was pleased with the jigsaw but it was really fiddly getting the photos to fit the pieces, it could have done with a clear template to help with positioning etc.
Well I am off to the hospital for an abdominal scan this afternoon to see if they can find out why I am losing weight and feeling nauseous, latest theory is it is something to do with the gall bladder
But I am not allowed to eat from 8 am till after the scan at 3.30 (which is bound to be late !) and I am now officially starving !! not even supposed to drink, but if you do you can only have water. So am trying to keep busy, but I'm sure that is just making me more hungry.
Typical that today I don't feel nauseous so would actually eat

***GLITTER
***SOMETHING TO DO WITH GOSSIP ie speech marks ,exclamation marks ,brackets.
***SOMETHING WHICH IS TYPICALLY AMERICAN
*** THE COLOURS RED WHITE AND BLUE
....also needs something else i think , am thinking something along the lines of ribbon or brads or similar to make it a nice round 5 items on it
well my MIL has ordered me the tsv today , the quickutz silhouette machine , its not the cutting machine i really wanted but seeing as its not costing me a penny i am not moaning , cannot wait to get it now

Kim, good luck with the silhouette when it arrives! I'm seriously thinking of buying myself a Cricut machine and using the new SCAL software so it can be used like a robo!
Got an order through from a sponsor today... Not really sure if I'm happy or not! I went for (amongst two other things) one BOY "Grab bag" and one GIRL "Grab Bag" and both packs had papers with loads of flowers on them and BOTH had only one lot of embellies... one was floral chipboard and one was Maya Road bloom slides. Struggling to find the male content there!
Kevin x
thats not good kevie , give them a ring or an email , you never know , the bags may just have got mixed up in the stockroom.
i wanted the cricut , had asked steve to buy it me for the big C at the end of the year , i will not say it , its waaay too early !! but now MIL has bought me the silhouette i might not need it
have you heard that the software invalidates the guarantee , if so then it will be more worthwhile in ordering from the states and saving some dosh as that also invalidates the guarantee
kevie192
05-04-2008, 11:37 AM
I did hear that Kim but I also heard that Provo Craft cannot legally invalidate the guarantee for using third party software.
It's like a printer manufacturer trying to stop people from using third party cartridges - it's not allowed as it's classed as monopolising. PC would not have any way of telling if SCAL had been used anyway.
Besides, I was thinking of getting one second hand and saving some dosh!
Kevin x
Sarah Mo
05-04-2008, 01:56 PM
Was reading about the SCAL software last night and it sounds good, but as I have the design studio software I can't really justify another at the mo, maybe cricut will have to improve their software to try and compete.
Yep Sharon I hate clowns and cherubs, something really creepy about them.:nono: :nono:
Planning on having a bit of a clear out this weekend. there is a girl who is doing craft classes with disadvataged teenagers and is after some bits so seems like a good time to sort out
Finished the front garden yesterday and it is looking really good. Just need a few more plants when the weather improves and then no more mowing a silly little square of grass (and weeds and moss !!) all year round

Great stuff with the gardening Sarah.
Oh boy Kim that shrine sounds scary!!!
Kevin I would send the store an email or phone and explain that you are not happy. The thing that puts me off grab bags, I'm terrified they are trying to pawn off poor selling stock.
I got my Cricut Expression on Friday, only took 5 business days to arrive from the US!! I paid £152 for it yet my baby cricut cost me £270 in the UK when first released!! I bought a UK figure of 8 mains cable for it and it works perfectly. I also bought the design studio software and the seller put it in same box and charged $90 postage. Was going to be $15 postage for the software anyway. All in all my total bill for the expression, software and postage was £230 which I thought was very good. I didn't incur custom charges either!!
Been at a crop all day and made 28 6x6" LOs for a swap I am taking part in for Scrapaganza, Holland. 28 of us are making LOs about ourselves and swapping them over there...should make a fantastic memento.
kevie192
05-04-2008, 08:49 PM
Picked up my cricut machine today but I cant use it yet!! I don't have any cartridges and to use the SCAL software you need to have a cartridge in.
Still, looks pretty on my desk though! DOH!

05-04-2008, 09:10 PM
Did you buy the expression or the baby bug Kevin?
I buy all my carts from ebay US sellers. can get them for £20 - £25 easily.
I am using bid assistant at moment to try and get paper dolls fro no more than $50 (£25ish). Kevin if you want to see the carts go to www.cricut.com click on products then choose cartridges and if you choose see cartridge sample you will get a PDF file showing what it does.
The Paper doll one is very deceptive as there is a lot more on the cartridge by selecting the function buttons for example the pirate shirt with function button gives you a pirate boat. I saw one today at the crop and I couldn't believe how much stuff is on it.....think it would be fantastic for kids cards etc
kevie192
06-04-2008, 10:18 AM
That sounds excellent Sharon. I've got the baby but I'm sure after I've played with it for 6 months or so I will NEED the expression! I bought mine for £110 with 3 cutting mats and no cartridges second hand which I thought was quite good.
The price for your expression is excellent. Only issue is just think how much extra it would have been for the customs charges if you weren't so lucky!
Can't wait for my cartridge to arrive now so that I can get on and do some cutting!!!

Great prices on your cricuts. I havn't had mine out for awhile now, but i take it to all the crops as I'm too impatient to wait till I get home to do lettering !!
You'll have to let us know good the SCAL software is Kevin when your cartridge arrives. Havn't seen any cartridges I fancy at the moment, I 'm sure if my kids were younger all the shapes cartridges would be great, but I tend to just buy the font ones.

Kevin I chat on the Cricut thread...well if I can keep up as it moves so fast!....and from the ladies that have had customs charges they were all around £29 which including royal mail's fee of £8 for collecting the money.
The ebay seller that I bought from marked it as a gift worth $24.95 !!!!! Never asked her too either.

Shrine?! Love the bits on your blog Teresa :D
Sharon, have you actually used that store or just bought from eBay US? I like the sound of that cart, might need to give it a go!
I coloured a magnolia this evening and decided that her face looked strange with a dark area over an eyebrow so applied more water only to completely ruin it and it's now in 4 pieces in the bottom of my bin! It was the petticoats one too, the only image of that I have and I really liked it.
As for the grab bags, I counted the value of the items and it came to £16. There is supposed to be £10 worth of stuff in each one and I had 2 so I emailed them to tell them I wasn't happy. Also said about it being mainly girly etc. I was expecting more embellishments than a few pieces of chipboard and a few flowery charms! Will let you know what they say.
My fire has been well any truly re-lit for crafting. I was not enjoying it so much of late but finding all the stamps and starting to colour and also now my cricut machine has really re-enthused me! Cant wait for the cartridge I've ordered to arrive on Tuesday. It's the "Plantin Schoolbook" one.
Hope everyone is well, will post pics and a review of SCAL when I get my cart and can use it. I very much expect those of you with cricuts big and small will want to buy it. From what I can see it's amazing!

Hi, seem to have got on line at the wrong time again, all of you are offline.
Well hope you are all ok, i have had a great weekend, put a bet on the grand national which i never do as i hate it when the horses fall over, but anyway i won £55, my sis always bets on the national and she got 1st 2nd and 3rd, whats the odds on that happening? Unfortunately there were win only so only won for the horse that won but still amazing. (we couldnt work out how to do each way as it was online)
And my next bit of news is even better, Im in love....................................
with my new camera, not my OH (hee hee) I have been saving up for my 1st digital slr, for a while now, and for one thing or the other, things have come up and havn't been able to save much, anyway, my parents came over on Saturday and they had brought me the camera i was saving for, i was speechless, so i am now the proud owner of a Nikon D40. Havent a clue how to use it at the moment, as i know nothing about SLR's but i am enjoying learning (or not as the case may be) the manual expects you to know a bit about it so struggling but Im sure i will get there in the end. Im so pleased. If anyone knows of any good sites that are helpful or any tips that would be great. Anyway as no one is around to chat too, Im going to go and check out the Nikon Appreciation Thread on here and then going to go and play with my new found love.
One more thing, not sure if i told you all, but was at Wembley last Sunday for the final of the Johnsons Paint Trophy to Watch our local football team play (MK Dons) and we won. Its our first cup for our cabinet, and OH, my mum and me managed to get on the BBC News and Look East 3 times as we was coming out of the stadium - It was a talking part as well, so i have had my 5 seconds of fame (thought it was meant to be 15minutes)
Hope you are all having a good evening, hope to catch up soon. x

I signed up for Cheryl Johnson's Masterclass however my PC broke one week in to it so I fell too far behind. I have just received week one from her Painting With Light course as I felt it was better for me to start there.
I also came across some great tutorials on the two peas website that lasted for 12 weeks.
It appears that the classes fromn the two peas website have been removed now that the course has finished, however if you PM with your email address I will send you the 12 PDF's.

In answer to your question about the store, I have not bought from them yet, I have only bought from ebay US sellers however if you ask about H***m*** in the cricut thread the ladies there will tell you how reliable they are.
I have two Plantin Schoolbook carts as I bought one a few months ago and also got one with the expression. As soon as I posted on the cricut thread that I was going to be putting it up for sale on the marketplace I had a few PMs, then two local girls also offered to buy it!! Pending payment I have sold it to one of the members of the cricut thread. It is a fab cart Kevin, not girly, not childish etc you will use it lots.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the SCAL software, I am interested to know if it welds shapes etc. I really like the Design Studio software.

No I'm not however not long now before I go to Scrap-a-ganza in Holland. I can't wait!! The class schedule changed slightly and I had to alter some of my classes.
The workshops are here (http://www.scrap-a-ganza.com/Class_Desc.php)

I've never been to a crop or class in my life. Maybe I should start!
Sharon, you can download the SCAL demo from the website and have a play with it. It comes with a few basic shapes and all you need to do is click a box and it will weld them no problem. For text it's the same, and click another button and you get the shadows ready to cut!
You can also use Inkscape, which a lot of the Robo owners use to design, to make your designs then take them into SCAL and cut them. Possibilities are endless and you're not limited by your carts either - you can make up designs or use pictures from dingbat fonts etc.
Congrats on the win Tasha - bet you already know what you're spending your winnings on! As for the camera, you can buy "Nikon D40 for dummies" from Amazon for £10. My dad has one for his D80 and says it is excellent. He recommend reading it and THEN reading the manual if you still want more info and you will understand more.
I registered interest for the PWL workshop last year to start at the beginning of 08 but unfortunately I was 'forgotten' off the list so did not get emailed when I needed to sign up. I was told it was MY fault! Apparently, there wont be any more this year either. I don't think I'll attempt to take any of her classes again.
I understand that shrine comment now. It confused me because I thought it was directed at me and I couldn't think what I'd written about a shrine! Sounds slightly scary to me :S

Must also just add that some people have reported problems with their Cricut after installing SCAL, so do so at your own risk! There are also issues with the warranty, although I think that's a load on nonsense!!

Morning all,
Hi Tasha, great to hear all your good news. Will have to think about the SCAL software as my baby bug is still under warranty, once that has expired maybe I will get it as I'd hate to break it !!!
Not going to Ally Pally or Scrapaganza :( :( Would love to go to a show as there are so many nice bits around but never in the same on line store !! Which makes it really expensive with lots of p&p s to add on.
Had a good clear out of papers and bits yesterday so have 2 pizza boxes of bits to send off to the girl that does craft classes for disadvantaged teenagers. So actually have space in my cropper hoppers for once and rediscovered all sorts of papers that I had forgotten about.
DH has one of the hybrid digi cameras and that is too complicated for me to be bothered with , I'm a point and shoot kind of gal :P :P but DH would love a Digi SLR one day

Kevin I have searched these demos for you:
alcohol inks : http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=alcohol+inks&search_type=
paint dabbers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9orhD3s5eg
Dyan reaveley of blonde moments takes off the dabbers lid and uses a baby wipe to paint with (Huggies are best as they are not too wet or soapy). If painting chipboard, apply primer first.

Hi guys...hope everyone is well...just a quick post...i've posted a few bits on my blog......i'm off to the marathon now to cheer my twin brother on...first marathon and he is running for children with cancer.
pop back later and let you know how he got on.

thats weird you saying about dyan using baby wipes as yestarday when i was in my room , i had used an ink pad on a template , it was a littlw tricky to use , but when i removed the template onto a scrap piece of paper to clean with a baby wipe , i got a perfect image on the scrap paper , and all i did was wipe it very roughly to clean  it was much much better than the original image on the lo .:(
kevie have you looked on splitcoast stampers for techniques with all the things you want to use , they would prob be far better than what i could tell you . i am better at showing rather than telling ,IYKWIM , but you are mor than welcome to come round for a cuppa and a craft session :blink:

No tips on using any of the products, other than the baby wipes, which I have used for other acyrlic paints too. Quite messy but a nice result.

Kevin, do you have a blog?
Teresa, how did your brother get on at the marathon?
Sarah Mo
14-04-2008, 06:34 PM
Nope no journal to go with it. Basically it is an Ikea glass jar with ribbons and tags on the lid and 5 tag books inside for them to record what they want on. The teddy tag on the lid has space for time, date weight etc.
I made a couple for a craft stall and they seemed popular. There are loads of things that could be added to it (journal, hair/tooth envelopes etc) but I was trying to hit the balance between cost and time, as we all know that no one ever wants to pay what it actually costs!!

Great work thinking of a sketch Kevin, you could put in a flower instead of the butterfly or another big star or a monogram etc. Could you try swapping the quote and the title around too?
I think we should use a sketch as I know that with other challenges the ones with sketches seem to be popular. Teresa I suggested we use a sketch right at the very beginning.
I don't think we should use something American and red, white and blue. Unless the something American is stipulated as stars or stripes. I feel it should be one or the other, think that was what was "thrown in the pot" earlier as a suggestion.
Out of interest as I am stumped, what would you class as typically American? All I can think of is coca cola, maple syrup pancakes and hot dogs...............can you tell I am hungry!!
Gosh, I sound like a right bossy boots

17-04-2008, 08:35 PM
Here are all our suggestions/discussions about the challenge.
Anyone put any thought to our challenge?
I will try and browse sites for sketches this week.
It would be good if we could decide on it for the end of May so we have plenty time to get our own LOs made.
Sounds great Sharon... I'd love to see when you've finished! :D
As for the challenge, a few ideas:
Something glittery
Something to do with talking/chatting?
Just a few ideas!
I like the idea of quotes and also the american theme... sounds good to me!
It's very true Teresa, I've been bitten! Ordered the spring Magnolia kit now and spent FAR too much this month on scrapping stuff... Just about to place another order actually - Need a trimmer and some scissors... Some papers, flowers and brads jumped into my basket all by themselves!
Kevin x
im liking the sound of the challenge allready sharon
sounding like a REAL bit of a challenge so far ,,,my ideas include kevies as well ...
***GLITTER
***SOMETHING TO DO WITH GOSSIP ie speech marks ,exclamation marks ,brackets.
***SOMETHING WHICH IS TYPICALLY AMERICAN
*** THE COLOURS RED WHITE AND BLUE
....also needs something else i think , am thinking something along the lines of ribbon or brads or similar to make it a nice round 5 items on it
well my MIL has ordered me the tsv today , the quickutz silhouette machine , its not the cutting machine i really wanted but seeing as its not costing me a penny i am not moaning , cannot wait to get it now
crafty pants
17-04-2008, 08:42 PM
Here goes my suggestions:
Use a sketch: 10 points
Use glitter: 5 points
Use quotation marks: 5 points
Use stars or stripes: 5 points
Use red, white and blue: 5 points

Hi All,
Both sketches look great , but agree about not having the butterfly. How do you design these little sketches ?? they are fab !!
Actually did some crafting today, made a mini book with photos from another one of the Disney shows I've made a section in the back to hold DVD of the show, so just have those to do now.

Your mini book sounds fab Sarah. I wish I could say I have crafted this month but I have done nothing since I made the backgrounds for the CJ I am doing.
Been working a lot and busy with the children now that the weather has improved, going to my caravan this weekend so yet another weekend with no crafting :(
BTW I used adobe photoshop elelments to make the sketch, first time I have ever done it. Kevin provided a great sketch and it motivated me to try it too as I love to play around on the PC.
Kevin I hope you don't mind me having a go too, don't want to "take over" but I am glad you did create one as I promised to look for one weeks ago but never got round to it.
I have just watched the double episode of Battlestar Galactica that I recorded on Tuesday....it was fantastic!!! But now I really must head to bed as I am working tomorrow and will need to get up at 6.30am

Great stuff with the craft room Kim. (yes, in PE it is done in layers like digital scrapping)
Our challenge is July week 1.
Once we have decided on all the bits etc for our challenge I will "set them in stone" so we can all go and make our LOs.
What do you all think of:
Use a sketch: 10 points
Use glitter: 5 points
Use quotation marks: 5 points
Use stars or stripes: 5 points
Use red, white and blue: 5 points
............or should it be stars or stripes OR red, white and blue? then we would need to think of something else.

Kevin I am totally shocked and extremely hurt at your comments.
I am astounded to be quite honest. I suggested we use a sketch right at the beginning, you came up with one and asked for suggestions as it was a provisional sketch. I asked you to swap the titla and quote around but in your reply I detected sarcasm in your comment below:
OK, I'll sort it out tomorrow. Glad you appreciate my hard work!
Kevin x
And as it was so much hard work for you I thought I would save you that effort again and create the sketch for you.
I am sorry that you feel that you feel hard done by and want to stay out of challenges in future, hey that's your call, you are a grown man and can make your own choice. I am however puzzled at your attitude as earlier today this was your comment
No problem Sharon, we may as well just go with your sketch now. Glad I motivated you to try it out though.

I am so, so hurt and this. I put so much effort in to being a team leader. I also try to be a good team member showing a genuine interest in others and their work. I can't believe this has been thrown in my face when I decided to help you.
You have taken the fun out of the challenge to be quite honest and the way I am feeling just now I want to quit the team. I am not happy to stay in an atmosphere.
kevie192
18-04-2008, 09:05 PM
Sharon if you look at the March thread you will notice that soon after the challenge was suggested, I offered to put the sketch together and said:
Setting a weekly challenge sounds great I'm happy to pop the sketch together if you wanted once we've decided on some ideas?
To which you replied:
Kevin I'll have a scout around for some sketches and see what everyone likes then you can put it together professionally for us.
So when I put one together incorporating all our ideas I was astonished that you went ahead and made ANOTHER as if to say that mine was not good enough for the team.
If you didn't want me to do it then you should have said from the outset, not agreed to me doing it and then withdrawing and doing it yourself.
I'm not debating how much work you put in as team leader. We all appreciate your hard work BUT being team leader does not mean that you have to do EVERYTHING. I brought the ideas together for the challenge and you slated them. What you suggested was that we go with your idea, not have a vote on the ideas to make a decision.
As far as I am concerned, if anyone should leave the team then I am happy to do so. I never feel like many people appreciate my input to the group anyway. As far as I can see my only worthy contribution was the glittery signatures at the beginning.
I'm not for one minute suggesting that you are a bad person, all I'm saying is that you hurt my feelings by agreeing to me putting the sketch together and then undermining me by making your own AFTER slating mine.
To all other members of the team: I'm sorry to let you down. I feel that this team is not something I'm keen to be a member of at the moment and so I hope you understand and appreciate my decision.
I've removed my signature but will still check the thread from time to time as an observer, not a team member.
Thanks for a good time,
Kevin x
oh dear kevie !!! stop throwing your toys out of the pram please . as far as i can see , sharon has used your sketch with a few little tweaks here and there , now be honest kevie , these tweaks certainly make the lo flow better, your sketch was good enough and the basis of it has been used , however sharons input just added finshing touches . i think between the 2 of you , you have come up with a really , really good sketch
in post 136 i think it is , you were ok with what sharon had done ,,,what changed ????
the comment you said to sharon above is rather nasty ( "just because you are team leader , does not mean you have to do EVERYTHING " ) and i honestly think you should apologise for it .
no-one in this team has to leave and i would hate that to happen , i think we do ok as a team really , not too ott and not boring ,we say what we have to say and dont waffle on and on about all sorts of c**p .
and to say that we seem to be unappreciative of your input , well i think thats a bit of an insult to the rest of us :(:(:(
i reckon we should just crack on as we were , use the tweaked sketch and come up with the rest of the points by agreement between us all , but i am fully ok with what has been suggested so far
come on folks , this is our first challenge the gg's have set , dont spoil it:love::love::love:

I am sorry you feel this way Kevin.
I never slated your sketch, when you made one you said it wasn't set in stone and that it was provisional and asked for suggestions so I asked you if you could swap the title and the quote around, I never said it was a bad sketch. I know being team leader means I don't have to do everything, only reason I went ahead and tweaked your sketch (note I didn't create a whole new one) was to save you "the hard work" and because I was still up and had the time to relax and do it , anyway I enjoy playing around on the PC.
I have never suggested that we go with "my ideas" If I can recall correctly the glitter was your suggestion as was something to do with talking ( which stimulated me to suggest quote marks) It was Sarah or Kim who suggested something American like stars/stripes, red/white/blue etc.
As you can see from my post below I pulled these together and asked what everyone thought:
Our challenge is July week 1.
Once we have decided on all the bits etc for our challenge I will "set them in stone" so we can all go and make our LOs.
What do you all think of:
Use a sketch: 10 points
Use glitter: 5 points
Use quotation marks: 5 points
Use stars or stripes: 5 points
Use red, white and blue: 5 points
............or should it be stars or stripes OR red, white and blue? then we would need to think of something else.
Kevin do you really honestly feel that the only thing you have contributed to the team is the signatures?
You have regularly chatted on the thread. I do not want you to leave the team and I don't want to leave the team either.
Please can we call a truce and forget this whole thing?

Kevin, I came on to PC this morning, knowing that you are an early bird hoping that you had responded. Perhaps you are having a long lie!! :)
No such luck here, I didn't get to bed until 2am, My DH has been away doing a course in London since last Sunday and only returned last night, just as well he was shattered and went to bed at 9pm or I'd have been in hot water.
I am off to caravan later today, I am glad to get a break from the PC to be honest as I have woken with a stonking tension headache. :(
I kept thinking of all yesterday's events, trying to make sense of them but feel it best to move on. I really hope Kevin that you have a change of heart and stay in the team.
If you really want to leave the team because you really believe what you stated yesterday......" I never feel like many people appreciate my input to the group anyway. As far as I can see my only worthy contribution was the glittery signatures at the beginning. then I wish you well however please don't leave because of sketchgate.
I had forgotten that I had responded to your offer in March saying that I would browse around for ideas and you could put them together, all I remembered this month was that I had a sketch to do and that I had better get a move on with it. With hindsight I should have been honest back in March and actually said "thanks Kevin for the kind offer but actually I really, would like to look for ideas and create a sketch for everyone to give opinions on but I will give you a shout if I need help putting it together professionally"
Hindsight is a great thing!!
Kevin are you in or not?

Okay then folks, can we please not let these past events spoil the team's atmosphere and first ever challenge.
Back on to the current suggestions for the challenge I would like some suggestions from you guys on the "Something typically American" and the "Red/White/Blue theme"
Do you think we could put this under the same umbrella for example if we said use something typically American for 5 points this could be interpreted as red, white and blue.
I have been racking my brains all night about typically American stuff and also thought of Mickey Mouse, use and Elvis Presley song title as your title etc etc...............I do keep thinking of coca cola too, so perhaps a bottle top.
All input welcome please!!

Morning Sharon ....hope you have a break at the caravan.....
i'm not sure that we need to stipulate 'something American' as a feature as we have the stars & stripes and the red/white/ blue.....
We can put the 'american' celebration in the 'blurb' as our challenge falls in the week of independance day..but other than that i think it gets too specific and people struggle with that. Does this make sense?....have a lovely break speak after the weekend. Tx

Yes that makes sense Teresa.
I am sure I will have a relaxing time at the caravan if I can get away!! I am going with my youngest son as my DH is too tired after travelling a lot this week and wants to stay at home. He will take our oldest son to his swimming lessons on Sunday too. I have still to pack etc, also want to take along some crafting stuff to chill out with but I haven't even had my shower yet!! It is a 2 hour drive to our caravan it is in the Highlands. There is a great craft shop in Elgin which is owned by one of the sponsors Mrs Mac and I intend stopping in by on way up too. I need more hours!!
BTW Thanks for your PM yesterday too.

wow guys sorry I havent been around things have been mad.
just reading back posts im notsure what happened that seemed to come out of the blue from kevin?
sharon i think you've done a great job as team leader, better than I ever did.
like the idea for something typically american as it gives a lot fo freedom.
KatieMcF
19-04-2008, 11:19 AM
typically american ideas....coca cola, bagels, pretzels, waffles, landmarks, cowboys/indians, stars and stripes, red white and blue, famous ppl from there, movies.
crafty pants
19-04-2008, 11:32 AM
wow katie that is some list!! Your body might not be in America yet but your heart sure is!!!
Perhaps it would give a "challenging twist" to our challenge if we do make that one of our things but we would need to state some examples like Katie has done above in the description. I love the cowboy indian option!! However knowing me I would play safe and opt for red, white and blue as my american thing
What do you all think of this then:
Use the sketch: 10 points
Use glitter: 5 points
Use quotation marks: 5 points
Stars or stripes; 5 points
Use something American: 5 points (this can be the colours red/white and blue, cowboys/indians, Mickey Mouse, american landmarks, bottle cap to represent coca cola, american movie theme, etc)
Teresa, you do a lot of the challenges do you think this would work then people (like me!) who can't think off a tangent could opt for the easier option of the colours red, white and blue.
KatieMcF
19-04-2008, 11:38 AM
ha yes sharon it is though im still begrudging spending all my time tidying and packing!
im sure oh will come up with more when he gets up!
i think the general american theme will give more freedom in the sense of for eg if they went to see grease the musical or something like that they they can fit into the LO.

To be honest with you, I've been very sensitive over the last week. Two looming essays and huge stresses at work (The whole department has been pulled out to help with an endowment maturity crisis and NOBODY know's anything about the systems or endowments!) It's all come at a bad time.
Since all of this was happening, I was really looking forward to doing that sketch - I really tried my hardest to make it different and unusual to challenge people's ideas. It was really nice to make it because other than that it's been work, work, work.
What REALLY upset me was the comment that "I prefer Sharon's sketch" and "Stop throwing your toys out of the pram". I KNOW I'm not even a tenth as talented as most of you on here. I thought that my forté was in the IT area but I guess I was wrong!
I really want to apologise to ALL of you. What I said last night was unacceptable - I know you appreciate my input just as much as I appreciate all of you. I love being in a team and a little scrapping "family".
So, I'm classing this in the same league as a family row. I argue with my sister all the time so Sharon, you've just become my adopted sister!
__________________________________________________ ____________
^^ That's me drawing a line under this. In future I will leave it a while to post and not let my mood drive me.
In conclusion:
Katie, I hope the moving is going better now.
Sharon, did you finish the inchies? If so, I wanna see!
The challenge has been hit on the head I think - the ones I enjoy most are those that really push me out of my comfort zone and challenge my ideas and this will do just that!
Oh and Kim... To make my sketches I used Inkscape. It's a vector image and I really like creating in there :D
Love to ALL of you!

Loved your journal jar Sarah, very professional. i done one for my sister recently, but i just typed questions on to slips of paper and Amy and I rolled them up into a scrowl (sp). Sister never keeps to filling in the baby books but she is doing really well with this.
Well done to Theresa's Brother, that is loads of money to raise, bet you are all so proud of him.
Keep up the good work with your packing Katie.
And Kevin, wow you certainly added even more excitment to our thread - thats the thing with posting, before you get a chance to think about what you have typed its already been posted - we are all human and can be hot-headed at times, i for one have done it, at least all is cleared up now and i think it makes relationships even stronger - love ya honey, Wont mention the 'sketchgate' incident again.

Hi all, got back a couple of hours ago. I had a very relaxing time at the caravan, the weather was so mild and warm I could easily have stayed up another day. ......and yes I was tempted by the stamps at Mrs Mac's shop on the way up. She is waiting for new Sugar Nellies to arrive, there wasn't a lot to choose from but I bought the little boy one (can't see a name on the card) I also bought three Bellas - cosmobella, mumabella and birthdaygirlbella.
I had great fun stamping and colouring them on Sat evening whilst I watched Shawshank Redemption. Kevin I was really, really bad as I bought a Cuttlebug whilst I was there....I blame you for speaking about them
Great to hear from you Tasha, I'm going to look at your new LOs once I have caught up here. Sounds like a few of you have managed to fit in loads of crafting this week.
Kim, you will be itching to get in to your new room....am I right in thinking that you are like me and that you like to tidy stash??
Sarah, you must be shattered not getting to bed till late after your long day too.
Kevin as for blog names I haven't got a clue either but I did like the sound of Kim's suggestion "My Krafty Korner" it has a play with the letter K, which is your initial.
Whilst I was at the caravan I thought of something that you might be keen on doing once your blog is set up. How do you fancy creating some sketches just for our team to take part in if they want/have time? I felt really bad when I realised that creating the sketch was something you were looking forward to doing all last week. On my part the positive attribute of being a helpful person can also be a negative attribute. My youngest sister is a year younger than you and I realised how vulnerable you might be, with hindsight I would not have tweaked the sketch if I had known how hurt it would make you feel and for that I would like to apologise.
Once our challenge is past with I even thought that perhaps we could create a team blog. I'd be happy to set it up through Blogger. A blog can have any amount of authors so we could all post our work to it and if Kevin is happy to make sketches for us from time to time then our LOs could be uploaded there too. What do you all think? (after our challenge is over though!!)

Yea it's a great blog... Think I will treat myself to the next kit!
The funny thing is that I haven't got any Sugar Nellies or Magnolias yet! I'm still working from images that other people have kindly sent me.
You'll have to upload your first creation with the Cuttlebug on your blog Sharon, we'd all love to see it. AND it'd tempt me even further to buy one. I quite like the price of the embossing folders too - they're very affordable!
Anyone here make ATCs? I was think I'd like to try my hand at them. It's that sort of thing that can drive you to craft for craft's sake - not with photos or a specific card in mind. I like that idea. Also, there's a good Tilda and friends ATC challenges blog! I like doing challenges... they inspire me to try out new things!

I made one set of ATC's for a swap with the Design Collective organised by Jane Dean.....did you do that swap Kim? When I received everyone elses in return I thought they were excellent and mine were absolute pants!! I hate cherubs and guess what I did for my theme - yip CHERUBS!! bleuch ^_^
I can hear you all asking WHY did I make them.........it was the only small pictures I could find!! I did enjoy making the background though, I crumpled up and stamped on to plain white paper, ironed it then stamped some images and embossed with gold before attaching the cherubs etc
Here they are (I pity the people who got them):

I didnt know what ATC were untill i googled it, their are lovely, had a look at your Sharon and their are very sweet.
Amy came home crying today, Thomas has got a day off on Thursday because of the teachers strike, and AMy's teacher is not striking so she has to go to school, she wasnt happy. Thomas was quite sweet to her actually, he said he would buy her a present on Thursday out of his pocket money, She was boo hooing and saying how it wasnt fair, to which he replyed 'Life isnt fair' and then when she was still crying 15 minutes later he then told her to shut up 'your getting on my nerves'
I work at the same school as them so i have got to take an unpaid day holiday to look after him, but hey a day off, I don't mind and i have only just gone back from our late easter break.
Hope you all had a fab monday.
Catch up with you soon.

Brought some glitter as well, as i haven't got any, and thought we may be including it for our first challenge.

Tasha I am not surprised your daughter was upset especially when her brother was off. How old are your children again?
Bit of a disappointment that you will lose a day's pay too. Sounds like you have had a great spending spree though, I don't have a lot of glitter either.
Kevin I put in an order at Crafts U Love (http://www.craftsulove.co.uk/cuttlebug_embossing.htm)(a sponsor) for some embossing folders for the cuttle bug as they have a wide selection.
If you want I can emboss some paper for you. Infact that offer goes for anyone else. Just let me know.
I have these embossing folders:
Swiss Dots,
Baby Words,
Happy Birthday,
Divine Swirl,
Spots and Dots,
Tiny Bubbles,
Stylized Flowers.

Also, if ANY of my teamies would like me to cut something for them on my cricut/SCAL, I am more than willing. I can do any font that you can find and also dingbats so pretty much anything!

I have made some Peter Pan characters for my son Peter's birthday card - he will be 5 on Sunday and is daft on Peter Pan at the moment.
I used the Cricut paper dolls cart and altered some of the clothes to suit my needs.
For those that have the cartridge: To make Peter Pan I used the caveboy's clothes and trimmed off a bit. Also put the pirate tshirt under it and clipped a bit to make the collar. His shoes are from the elf with the pom-pom cut off, the belt is from the indian headpiece as is the feather in his hat. The hat was trimmed down from another hat.
Hook's coat is from the three wise men, his hat is the girl's cowboy one with the top trimmed down. The frill on his shirt is fromn two of the pirate's waist scarves with the belt bit cut off. You get the dagger, moustache and hook with the pirate boy. Hook's hair is the mermaid's!!! and his sword is the knights....oh and both of them are wearing the prince's tights
The Lost Boys should be easy enough as there are "dressing up" outfits there. I am hoping that Zooballoo has a crocodile too.
His birthday card is going to have to be very long

Sharon the Peter Pan figures are great.
When you guys are talking about circuits, is that the same as a robo...? Might be a bit of a thick question but im getting really confused.
crafty pants
22-04-2008, 11:52 PM
Thanks for the link kevin, I will get a chance to look at it properly tomorrow.
Tasha the Cricut runs independent from the PC whereas the Robo needs the PC. In order to use the Cricut you need to buy individual cartridges, which have tonnes on them.
In saying that however Cricut have now come out with software that allows you to weld (join) shapes together and do a host of other things as there is a USB port in the Cricut.
There is also a third party software called Sure Cuts A Lot that works with the Cricut too allowing you to cut any true type font from your PC, making lots of possibilities.
Kevin has the SCAL software so he could tell you more about it. I'd like to know if it can weld shapes together, hopefully Kevin can explain the recent version to us.

Thanks Sharon so you buy a circut thing and then buy cartridges, not that I am going to buy one - well not at the moment anyway. How much does a circut cost? i am guessing at around £200?
crafty pants
23-04-2008, 12:06 AM
The best deals are in the US Tasha. My mum bought me the original Cricut (it cuts up to 6x12") for my Christmas 2 years ago and it cost £270 from my local craft store. It now costs around £180 in the UK.
However I bought the Cricut Expression which can cut 12x24" from the US for £152. It would cost £300 in the UK.
The cartridges are around £45 - £60 in the UK but again I buy from the US at £25-£35 per cartridge.
Have a look at www.cricut.com if you click on products and then cartridges there is an option to view a sample of each once you click on one.

SCAL lets you weld anything you want and shadows are created with the click of a button! You can also use Inkscape to make images and then cut them in SCAL - It basically lets your Cricut function just like a Robo!

Sarah I am going to the Holland one, it is easier and cheaper for me to fly to Schipol airport from Aberdeen than it is to fly to wherever in England and hire a car.
I paid for my flight using airmiles and cash. £25 of Tesco clubcard vouchers were exchanged for enough airmiles to get me on the lower tier. I also paid £60. Otherwise the flight would have cost £140

there's 31 votes already counted so am not sure if it's feasible(sp) to shut the poll and re start it with the 2 entries that aren't included, however it seems a shame that the hard will go to waste... also the time taken to do the challenge.
what does everyone think?? shall i close the poll and do a new one or shall I just leave the poll up as it is??

The children are going to sell each book for £4.00 to their family and all proceeds are going to their chosen charity. The charity is called the Starfish project and it is run by a local couple. They raise money to help look after and provide schooling for orphaned children in Ruiru, Kenya.

Wii Fit seems really good, Sam actually let me and Beth on it first as he's gone out to do his paper round. I have a wii fit age of 39 :P :P :P :P :P
Which if you knew me is mad as i am so unfit !!!! All it does to work that out though is a height weight and balance test (with both feet on the board)
Tried a yoga exercise which involved standing on one leg and fell over :P :P Most of the exercises will be way beyond me as my hips are strangely rotated and I can't stand on my right leg without falling over !! But Beth is addicted already. The balance exercises are ok as so far they don't involve lifting a leg up.
I bet you will really enjoy it Kevin, it has lots of fun games as well as the sensible exercise stuff.

Ah Kevin, I know what you mean now, it is a bit like a Dymo labeller.
Lovely blog there too, where do you come across the card blogs? That is what I need to browse through.
Sarah the Wii fit sounds good - I dread to think what my fitness level is. I did the sports test, where you bowl, play tennis and baseball..............my age was 70+ !!!!!!!:(:nono: not good at all! It was the bowling that let me down as I can't bowl for peanuts in real life and virtually. I have cervical spondylosis in the top of my spine and my throw is always "off" not sure if it is linked to my back or not. Speaking about backs, I was just commenting to someone this week that I think my slipped discs have finally healed, I had an MRI scan nearly two years ago that showed up two slipped discs and they have been bothering me in various degrees of pain levels, however for first time in ages I feel "normal."
My friend is emigrating to Canada and moves next week so I am off on a girl's night out tomorrow. We are going bowling (yes, I am crazy as my score is usually 30 something ;)) then having a meal before going to Bingo and then out drinking. I am really looking forward to it. Also got my son's 5th birthday party in the morning but thankfully it is being organised by the soft play place and all I need to do is turn up with my children and a cake :)
I am so tired tonight, I am sat in my PJ's already! so I am delighted I don't have a party to organise here.
Hope the posties come tomorrow for you two that are waiting. :)

Are we allowed to claim points for out team as well, and if so do we claim for 10 pts for SLO, or are we allowed to claim the points that are allocated to each challenge or class (it was 40pts for the challenge i have just done)
Hope you all had a good week, catch up with you all over the weekend.

Tasha you are allowed to claim points for the team but you have to wait until the cybercrop is over and they will tell you how much points each thing is worth. I think I read it in the Cybercrop question thread.
Also to claim points for your cybercrop team there is a points forum you need to visit too.
