View Full Version : Selling templates via UKS

I've been asked about this situation and for some way to allow templates sellers to advertise on UKS.

What we did in the past, with TLC consultants (which we stopped cause it was a bt of a nightmare to administer) is we allowed people to pay a nominal fee, much lower than full UKS sponsorship, which would be pointless for sellers selling 10, 20 designs a month for just a few £ each, and which limited the ways in which they could "sell" on UKS. Obviously we have to consider the interets of our primary sponsors, who pay for the running of the site, so what I have come up with is this:

We could perhaps offer a limited sponsorship, within the CR forum, like what Sandy has for her tutorial video site. The people who came on board would pay a nominal fee (lss than £2 a month - I was thinking something like £20 a year) for which they would be entitled to advertise within the CR forum only. We would add a post that included a link to their template site. UKS would take no (ZERO) % of the sales, and would not administer the sales - each person would have to set up a blog or a shop. These sponsors would be limited to selling cards and CR templates ONLY - ie not general scrapbooking suppplies as that would not be fair to sponsor shops which pay a much higher fee per year to be able to advertise on UKS. I think we could expand this to include the card sellers (and card sellers only - same rules, no general scrapping supplies can be sold for the reasons already stated) in the Cradmaking forum as well.

I need to check with Smax to be sure that creating a seperate user group for mini-sponsors is do-able.

The rules as they stand now are that you may not have a link to your blog on UKS if that blog sells. So if you are doing that now, that is a no-no.

I'm not going to expend a lot of energy on this if there is no interest :) And the other requirement would be that sellers still contribute free templates for this site regularly - not one a day, but a few a month, on the honor system. What I don't want is to attract people here for cheap advertising without them being willing to contribute to UKS and the members! Like with regular sponsors, a link back to UKS from the shop or blog would be part of it.

So have a think about that idea and LMK what you think. It was the best idea I had - if you have another one, so long as it does not include UKS collecting money from sales or being involved in the selling process in any way, I am open to your suggestions!

Hi,

Sounds perfect to me. Although I sell templates through my website, I still contribute on a regular basis.

One question, will the selling of CDs be permitted. I feel that this is an area that is open to abuse, as unless the seller shows pictures of the content of the CD, we could have a similar problem to the one that happened on Ebay.

Maybe a restriction would be that only individual files with pictures of the finished product can be sold via mini sponsors sites.

This may seem a bit restrictive, but otherwise there is nothing to stop a cetain person, or others like her, logging in under a new alias and repeating the crime.

I am open to suggestions on that count. I think that the selling of CDs is hard to prohibit, but it would be a very foolish person who sold a CD of theived templates ON THE SITE THE TEMPLATES CAME FROM! :D

I don't hink we could monitor the contents of what people are selling on thier sites and for some designersthat mght be a deal-breaker. What are other thoughts on the topic?

I was thinking that mebbe if we all had a blinkie saying trusted gsd seller with our website name on it which we could add to our signature line in uks and also to our shops although it would have to have the name of our shops on it because if you didnt then anyone could just take it ....I dont miind making them for people and also it would be a great way to keep a record of who has one ..I have uploaded a sample on to my webpage and although I wasnt sure if i was allowed to put a reference to uks it is possible to add it in ..this way all trusted sellers will use the same blinkie but with their own shop name which they can use in thei signature link in uks to link to their respective shops :) hope this makes a wee bit of sense
love n stuff

I would prefer to keep my templates free on UKS. I like the idea that because we are all members here that we can share stuff.

this sounds a brilliant idea to me
I cannot design anything for the robo and use the templates so I would be intrested as a buyer

I think in the light of what has happened, I too would be a buyer, knowing that I was getting something genuine!
There are some designers on here who produce some stunning work, and if they know they can sell them to uks members they will get something back for their brilliant work.

 Indeed Mary Anne! Not only that but there are members who are willing to buy suspect cds so we can take a look at the files

I have used the 'pay' site of Erika and would be devastated if I wasn't able to use that link again. We all have a choice, and those of use with far less talent than most of you out there need all the help we can get - even if we have to pay for it - please continue to allow it.

Please count me in - although the thought of doing a blog or a shop terrifies me - lol
UKS was the first place I came to get help and advice from the many helpfull people when I got my Robbie and is the only place I put my free templates.

Yep I like this idea as well but I would be buying not selling and to keep all these talented people together would be great. Lots of you donate your files for free and for you to get something back in return now and again is a great idea.

I'd be interested - no time to do much designing of templates, but I do sell my own very specialised cards through my website, and am happy to go on contributing the occasional template.
Think this could be a very useful development.

Best wishes,
Karen

I would certainly be interested as a buyer and, if the project I am working on develops as I hope, as a seller. It would be a means of "dipping my toe in" as it were before I need to chuck myself in bodily.
