Seeing as we have so many DG fans on the board, I thought it would be useful to share hints/tips & uses of the magic stuff:D

my current fave, atm, is removing the c/s or vellum from metal-rimmed tags & placing the metal 'frame' over a date or particular word, in my journaling, then filling the frame with DG. Looks fab:)

currently using it to stick page pebbles over little rub-on letters I bought in Smiths - looks great.

I haven't tried DG yet:( ...but I hope to get some soon, I am going to watch this thread with great interest and see what great ideas come up...Is it easy to use?

elliesmum
24-04-2004, 09:06 AM
Anita! I'm shocked:o I thought you would have been using DG for years:lol:
It is very easy to use, just don't shake it (you'll get air bubbles)

have you got some on order?

Too easy Anita!
I love this, washer from homebase, typewriter alphabet sticker & blob of DG on top! Ta daa!

I have only used it as an adhesive so far so also watching with interest for ideas!!! I had an idea actually maybe one of you bright sparks can help!!!! I like the watch crystal idea, any ideas how I could do a bigger version, I have a sprig of dried blossom that my son picked me after emma died . I thought it would be good to set it in DG , any idea how i could do this???

elliesmum
24-04-2004, 10:18 AM
Kelly,
depending on the 'thickness' or 'depth' of the sprig, try my idea using a mini frame instead, just put the frame around the sprig & fill with DG, it will be gorgeous & will protect the sprig.
does that make sense? the frame will have to be the same thickness as the sprig.

I love a little splodge on alphabet stickers to give them that 3-D feel.

Love Kate's ideas with the washers though - must try that one!:D

I've been a bit anal regarding DG not really knowing what it's all about. But I have just used it to coat my pressed flowers on a LO and it's given them a soft sheen. Have also made a microslide cover as a gift for my buddy Yizz and it has held all the bits and bobs on but also given the whole cover a glorious varnished look. It also protects the rubber stamped images I have put on the cover. I'm sold on it now! :D

I have used it on top of sea glass - it makes it look more transparent, like it's still slightly wet

Kate, I love your washer idea!
DG looks fab on all sorts of stickers, also looks good if you 'fill' a book plate. More 'antiqued'

I've used it on shrink plastic shapes. I did some hearts, applied diamond glaze (after shrinking!) straight from the bottle and then set in a flat-backed jewel. Wonderful stuff.

I covered a primitive heart with 3 coats which made the shape bend- straightened it out and then i had a lovely crackle glazed finish. It also made the heart look aged as it changed the colour to a brownish colour. This was not meant to happen but loved it when it was finished.

I bought a bottle at the crop n shop and haven't dared use it yet, I am too worried about ruining things with it! I cut the tip last night, so might just be daring today and try it on something. You all have some brilliant ideas to try. :)

If you have some of the plasticy liner for baking (you know the stuff you can buy at Lakeland and is brown) or the white backing paper from a xyron you can make your own Page Pebbles and do them what ever shape you wanted.
If you added a touch of ink to the DG (in a different container) you could have coloured ones too.

I wonder if you could do your own 3D lettering too?
Will give it a go later.

Oh I love covering chalked diecuts too.

I don't mind admitting that I have always been scared of DG, mainly cos I have never applied myself to understand what and how you use it and so have never bought any.

I can safely say that after reading this thread I will definately try some. It sounds FAB!

Ok, I have just opened my first bottle of DG and used it to make my QK letters shiny and I am very impressed - they look fab.

I noticed someone said about not shaking because it makes bubbles, well I don't think I have shaken it, but I have got loads of bubble. If I leave the bottle, will it settle again or have I ruined the whole lot? :(

Thank you

Katy :)

you DG will be fine... as soon as you have applied the DG just pop any air bubbles with a pin. Works for me!

Joy!

Put a couple of drops into a suitable "container" I use a paint palette and tint with ink (I use the Dee Grunig stuff). If you only use a drop of ink its lovely and subtle. You can make stained glass effects with clear shrink plastic.

I love the way it dries non-tacky. I've tried glass-painting but that always seems to keep a certain tackiness, so that if you put it on the front of a card, the envelope will stick to it.
I wonder if any of you have tied it for glass-painting techniques -I'd love to know.

I used it on a watch crystal then covered some tissue paper on a tag with it (glazed!!) and stuck it on. Looks fab and shiny.

Only trouble is I have DG stuck to my finger and am having to pick it off. :o Perhaps some sandpaper might get it off.

hee hee, so have I. Not for myself mind. I was thinking of DH. He has been scratching his head over how to fix some glass. I have told him I had found the ideal solution and have ordered him this wonder product.

I dont care if it fixes the glass or not, I shall just be watching him closely so he doesnt use too much. No guesses where the remainder will be going.

Just hope he doesnt check the credit card statement too closely. May be difficult to explain that it cost £9.00

Well postage is soooo expensive these days. Of course I will make no mention of the "Spare" I ordered, just in case :D

I use it for glazing my books like this (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=28696&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1). The cover is ordinary mountbaord, with ordinary printed paper over the top. With the DG 'wash' (1 water to 4 DG) it becomes a hard back and very durable.
I've also used it to glaze individual items with less water where I've mixed water colours to give a coloured glaze. Just mix the watercolour as normal to the right colour and then mix with the DG.
Before gazing, make sure your cover is stuck down all over the mount board and fairly tight, to avoid wrinkling - I cover the mountboard with Pritt then stick the cover on, pressing out any airbubbles.
