Karen Russell designs for Creative Imaginations.

I hope I'm okay to post this thread as it isn't strictly a "monthly" kit.

I have just received my first one ( though they have been going longer) and wanted to share the details as I'm really pleased with it.

It is called "Scrapbooking Outside the Box". The details on how to purchase are via Karen's blog here (http://www.karenrussell.typepad.com). You can sign up for a newsletter which gives you notice of kits in advance. From what I can gather there are around 3-4 kits per year. It is totally different to what I have seen before.

I hope you find it inspiring too.

I'm not sure I can resist. I don't have ANY kits so a one off might just be financially feasible!

I haven't plucked up the courage to ask dh if I can have another kit (3rd this month - and haven't done any scrapping from December til now) and I'm drowing in my stash. I hope someone asks what I want for my birthday for a change.

mine came today and I have made the frame...won't bother posting a photo though as it (obviously!) looks just like the one on Karen's website!!

it was a really fun project...will probably do the other LO tomorrow!!

Kate, I was wondering about making a second LO on the reverse of the transparency....mirroring the first, so that in an album it would be a completely transparent page if that makes sense?

I was going to do one side of DD like Karen has done, and then the other of the 2 DS's, though would need to pick up a couple of extra sheets of paper to have a "blue side".

I love ALL Karens stuff and have every one of her kits - Received the latest last week and I am saving it for the crop I go to on Saturday! I have a few of her LOs in my gallery. I think that is a great idea Kathy I know craft obsessions sell some of her products if you need any more.

...just hoping it will work Shirley, as it is all in my head at the moment...it may be a different story IRL  . Thanks for the heads up on where to locate papers :)

that sounds like a fab idea....the only thing I was wondering about though is that the main picture would not be 'framed' on the opposite side IYKWIM...

Just out of interest how frequent are new kits? Does a new one go up every month? Or are they more spaced out... just wondering if I really want this month's one on her blog, or if I should wait as I have a few of the items in this months kit already and have blown my budget so...

ShirleyF

They are few and far between really - usually when some new products are manufactured she brings out a new kit. TBH I wouldn't rush as she has only just finished selling some old kits that have been on her blog for at least 7 months. I would think she will do a new kit when some of the new products are released, but the 'outside the box' one should be available for quite a while. Have you seen her new stuff? Had an email this morning from her - YUMMY!

Mystik Nat
25-01-2007, 01:05 PM
Yes, I even e-mailed her the other day with a pressing font question which she kindly answered very pronto! hehe Said she'd be working on some lovely fonty things for the summer, can't wait. :D

Me neither!! She is always really helpful and her photography tips are excellent (shame I haven't a clue what she is talking about!!) LOL

think mine is waiting at the post office iwth £7 to pay in customs charge - shouldn't complain - I get parcels from teh states frequently and this is the first time in 2 years I've had to pay anything - looking forward to it as I'd forgotten al about it!

I had to pay that on mine, but like you can't complain as it was my first time being charged. And she did actually put over the customs limit on mine, which is why they charged me. Still the kit is fabulous and worth it even with the charge, so I wasn't too annoyed!! Hope you enjoy your kit. :)

I think you deserve it Annie!! Great to see you here too!!:D You will love it especially with all the lovely pink paper in the kit - I asked her to substitute as much as possible for the pink, and she did. Karen is extremely helpful to deal with, she also says she sends loads of kits abroad, nearly as many as to the states - it is a shame that we can't get more of her stuff over here. If anyone needs anymore paper craft obsessions (a sponsor on here) do have some more of it in stock.

Its a shame about the customs charge - I got caught once I think, but like you said its worth it.

why didn't i think to ask for pink....i got an email from her already saying she is off to the post office with my order.....oh well, I am sure I will love it anyhow!

Shriley, I am wanting to try that photo altering technique you showed me at the Scrapping Angels retreat (with the patterned paper under the photo). I think you said it was a Karen Russell project. Can you tell me where to find the how to or can you share it with me??
xoxoxo

Hiya Annie - took a bit of searching but it is back in her September blog and is September 13th here (http://karenrussell.typepad.com/my_lifejust_not_on_the_ro/2006/09/i_told_the_gals.html#comments) BTW to everyone who hasn't seen this it gives a great effect and well worth a go - my attempt at this is here (not a great photo sorry)

I finally made my transparency lo. I used colour photos not b&w, and a little acrylic paint about the edges of the photos ( I didn't get a border printed and wanted a lighter edge that a mat would give ).

I'm pleased with it. Just need to get a strip or sheet of the blue floral paper so I can do a repeated LO on the other side of the transparency. I think it will look good when it finally gets into an album "being see through" on both sides.

I am so in love with her kits...but don't know much about them....only had the last two. I think someone said they only come about a couple times a year????

kathyb

kellyg - I think there is a link on Karen's blog to e-mail her ( maybe look under one of the kits ). She is usually very prompt to reply. It may be worth asking if the kit can be marked as "gift" . That raises the limit to £36.

I recently had a parcel held "to ransome" I didn't mind paying the vat, it was the £8 handling fee charged by Parcel Force that I object to, as it was more than the vat owed, plus I even went and collected my parcel in person from their depot several miles out of the town. All they did was send me a letter and then happily swipe my cc.
