lighten faces please!

I need this photo for an exploding box - Chrismas pressi for my brother. As you can see the faces are too dark. Do any of you know how to lighten the faces without loosing the background. The where is just as important as the who in this piccie! I'm not very good at photo manipulation, so would be gratefull of your help. If you can give me instructions inPSP6 or if you could actually do it for me I will be forever in you debt!
