*If* I were to be thinking about buying a piece of software to do soe fancier stuff than I can do at the mo, which would you recommend & why?
Paint Shop Pro X
Photoshop Elements 4 or 5
Not that I'm going digi you understand B) Seriously I love my paper too much - and anyway I spend far too much time at the pooter for work to spend all my scrpa time at it too :) I have an amazon voucher & whilst part of me thinks I could use it for DVDs for Christmas presents, the other part of me thinks some decent graphics s/w would be nice too ... so I thought I'd get some opinions ...

It depends what you want to do with the software! I might be a bit biased here (I love my Photoshop) but I'd vote for PSE as a good all round package - great for touching up photos and for scrapping with and is very user friendly.

well, I guess I want to edit photos, maybe get rid of bits or touch them up ... Of course I may succumb to the occasional digi page ;) but more picture manipulation ... especially anything that autocorrects colour casting, does easy removal of weird backgrounds etc...

why don't you give Picasa (free download from Google) a go. It has a very good correction facility and can add tints and soft focus etc. It's really easy to use as well. I personally am a Photoshop CS2 fan, but have just looked at Picasa for my daughter and it looks really user friendly.
Oops - should have said...this is the latest version as it has recently been really well updated.

I ahve both PSCS2 and psp10, I foudn both software together are dynamite.
For a beginner I will suggest psp it's easier and user friendlier than pscs.
Then when you ahve mastered psp graduate to pscs.

Another vote for photoshop elements.
I tried both PSP and PSE when starting out, and found PSE much easier to master. Think it is just personal preference though, as some seem to get on better with PSP. You can download free trials of PSE and I think PSP from the official websites. May be worth doing this to see which you get on best with. That is what I did before commiting to one.
