girls, can i get your thoughts.....i really want to do this...i can do the first bit no problem, its the dec bit thats the problem!. i head down under on 7th dec, and i've either got to open everything prior to that date and not take anything, or politely ask that my secret santa take into consideration the fact that i will have to take my box to OZ and NZ!.
would people be offended by either of those options?.
i'll sign up tonight after work based on the feedback during the day!.

in case any of you are interested, you can add the advent swap blinkie to your signature....

you need to...

1. click on the user cp link on the left hand side of the red bar near the top of the page
2. then click the edit signature link on the top left
3. the in the edit signature box add the following...

only take out the ** at the beginning and end!

4. then click save
5. then come back and post here and admire your new signature!

Hello Ladies.....One of the ladies (Glorious19) who wants to join the swap has not joined UKS for the complusory six months. However by christmas day she will have. She does have 1 positive feedback and has over 50 posts...The rules state that she can join if all the participants agree...soooo what are you thoughts...can we allow Susan to join or not..(she is aware that im going to post this message)...I for one think she should be allowed.....

i think as long as you, as the hostess, is happy that she can commit without any trouble, then i'm happy. she has a good post count so she visits UKS frequently.

I reckon that newbies ( under 6 months) will make up for any shortfall in membership months with their enthusiasm! I'm an eternal optimist , I'm sure none of them will let us down !!

I am happy for Diane to join if e1 else is as she has a huge and all positive trader rating, is in a team, has done CJs with commitment etc

I suppose though it makes it embarrassing to turn down other newer newbies who have less feedback because Diane is exceptional in her case. Most Newbies aren't in a team with lots of feedbacketc.

Do you think we should agree a cut off or would it be acceptable in future for one of us to send a PM to say "no" IYSWIM. I can't imagine coming on here and saying "no" to someone in person if for example they were new and only had 2 bits of feedback or something. It would be really awkward but at the same time the rules are there to stop problems so if we are asked to say we'll ignore them then its quite an expensive swop in terms of money and that's why the rules are there IYSWIM.

Someone in charge obviously looked at any past problems and decided that these rules would be the best route and therefore by sticking to them there is less likely to be problems. I'm not explaining this very well am I - sorry

I'm defintely not directing this at Diane but some theoretical Newbie who might post later and say "I've been registered for 6 weeks and I'd love to join and I have 50 posts and 1 bit of feedback"

I think your comments are very valid Emma.....I do think that we need to judge people on an individual basis so perhaps a pm would alert us if anyone has a problem with an intended participant...

Would it be acceptable to everyone if me and Becky say yay or nay....after say 24hrs (that should give everyone a chance to pm any doubts) and then pm the person privately (if its a no and that way we can give reasons privately) and on here if its a yes.....That way we are not continually asking if such and such a person can join in. We have plenty of time to decide so have a think about it....

I know there were some examples in the opening thread but I thought it would be really nice to hear what worked and what didn't from those who've been on the receiving end ?? Appreciate that it would all depend on personal taste , but think it might be enlightening all the same !!

Claire....Me and Becky have decided not to revel your partner until the 1st of November. The sign up is until the 31st of October. If we were to swap you now the chances are you will guess who your secret santa is too soon....

I think i will be pming everyone with the details of their secret santa on the 1st. I will do this as early as possible so that you have at least 25 days to get shopping...(all parcels to be with the recipient by the 29th)

Nina - how can we find out what our swappee likes (once we know who they are). Does everyone email you likes/dislikes so you can pass it on? Scrapping stuff should be obvious from galleries etc but other things might not be (e.g. does someone drink, do they have any allergies, other hobbies and interests and so on).

Katy - your likes and dislikes are supposedto be showing in your profile now for your swappee to see butI was going to ask Nina or Becky if it would be OK to email a list to be 'put with' my email with my details on with my likes and dislikes. I am a host in one of the other groups and lots of my ladies have done that , like/dislikes by email I mean! Nina / Becky would that be OK ?

Well you can check which types of embellishments/chocolates people like by visting the polls, ive also asked for a poll to be set up for handmade items..or you could read the persons posts to gain some ideas or the likes/dislikes in the persons profile or do as Anita suggests...however please send those emails to me (as i think im going to be sorting the swaps) plus Becky is so busy doing the sign ups i dont think she will like being bombarded with extra emails:lol: . my email is ninacoulton@btinternet.com

Nina and I have had several emails and PMs from people who are concerned about various issues with the rules for who can and who can't join this swap.

Just to make it clear, at the moment I'm only going to add people to the list if...

1. they have been a member since 25th June - so will be 6 month members by the time the swap closes

2. have made at least 50 posts

3. have no negative feedback ratings - it doesn't matter when or why they were given, if there is a negative rating then that's it. If anyone feels a rating has been given unfairly then contact a moderator to discuss.


I realise that this will mean recent members will be excluded, even if they have posted lots and who have good feedback. However, the rules are made by the moderators based on past experiences of this swap. It is a much higher value swap than the regular ones, and is a much bigger commitment. Also it has the potential to become very personal if we start bending the rules and I'd like to avoid any nastiness :)


Now if anyone has any questions, please ask :) One of the emails I read this morning said there have been people getting worried behind the scenes about this :o please shout up if there is a problem - I don't bite (can't vouch for Nina though :o ) and would really much rather you emailed or PMed Nina or myself than sat there feeling unsure about things :)

I did it last year and had a lovely time, but have been truly disappointed by a couple of swaps I did this year as people didn't bother looking at my likes/dislikes :( so I have everything crossed for now.
