View Full Version : So........ are you enjoying it here?

We have been here in our own forum for two weeks now and I wondered how everyone is feeling :D Are you enjoying the dedicated forum for cardmaking? Is there anything you feel is missing - can I add anything else?

An update on questions Ive been asked so far:

Can we get points for card making again?

Unfortunately Ive checked with the ladies that look after the Teams/Houses and Points system and it is felt that at this time, cards will NOT be eligible for points. I can understand the dilemma - the points system is primarily for Scrapbooking, to get the inspiration going, and a line has to be drawn somewhere - so at the moment, its a No. I will keep this on the back burner though just in case there is a change of heart

Can we have a Categorised Gallery?

I have been asked if we could manage with just the one Gallery for the time being. If we all made an effort to put the description of our cards in the title of our uploads to the gallery, then when anyone wants to search - it would be much easier. So, if you make a Female Birthday Card - title it as such. When you want so look for inspiration in a particular category - search using the words "Female Birthday" - this should help. However, see below for my alternative suggestion ;)

Can we have Card Swaps on this forum?

To keep continuity on UKS at a premium, we request that ALL swaps/trades for Cards still go through the usual channels and you use the Swap forum and contact chrismicbritt for authorisation.

MY IDEA

I think it may be a nice idea to have seperate threads as "Sticky's" for different categories of cards - so for example, we could have:

Christmas Cards

Female Cards

Male Cards

Children and Baby Cards

Others (this would include Weddings/Anniversary's/Thinking of you... etc.

When we make a card, we can either post it in the gallery, and/or we can post a picture/link in the relative thread as well.

If anyone has any other requests or suggestions - just PM me :D

What I like about your last idea of sticky threads, and posting a link to the gallery when you upload a card is that you get a bit of feedback. I mean, we all like nice things to be said and because cards don't go in the Layout gallery (obvious I know, keep reading :D) they don't pass across the top of the home page on uploading and so might not get noticed. Also nipping through a stickied thread complete with links would be a good way to search for inspiration at short notice, or am I the only one to leave cards till the last minute?
Thanks for your efforts Janice.

It's fantastic

The challenges are fun - and I promise to try and keep up with them :D

The inspiration is so much better via threads rather than just browsing the cards gallery, and I now feel I can ask for help/ideas (as per the Diwali card) without getting comments about this being a 'scrapping' site --- would have had to either risk that on the general chat, or hope it was seen if I put it in Community (never was sure where to post for card help  )

Yes, many thanks, Janice. Am feeling much more motivated. Still scrapping of course, but the two do go together.

Thanks You Janice

I haven't participated much as I'm a bit busy at work at the moment but its fantastic having a seperate cardmaking forum.

I love the ideas for stickys and can we start the Christmas card one soon as I am desperate for some inspiration :D

loving it Janice....and I love your idea for stickies. What would be great in the threads for particular theme of cards is if its just links to their galleries, with alll comments/praise and questions in the gallery instead of in the thread.

I am glad you are all enjoying it here - I am chuffed to have a Card Making forum as it was my first love and venture into papercrafting.

As much as I adore scrapbooking, I still get so much pleasure from making and giving cards :D

Right - will get the threads organised now :D

Will get the threads sorted out -

 Love the forum and I agree with Ching (Hi Ching, great to see you here again!), could we keep the sticky threads just for links or thumbnails, all comments etc kept off the threads - it would just make it easier when looking for inspiration.

I'm enjoying it here as I don't scrapbook so I can join in now. I've posted a comment in one of the stickies sorry! I can't see how to delete it tho so maybe I can ask Janice to do that for me. I hadn't read to keep them free of comments till now. Sorry.

Its wonderful here, even though I haven't actually said or done much yet but do intend to. Stickies are a fab idea.

Thanks Janice for all your hard work.

Oops, I've done the same. Trouble is, if it's not a gallery link, how do you praise it? And not everyone will be putting their cards in their galleries (not much room left in mine tbh).

Hmm not sure what to do about comments - I can see what you are all saying, but I do think it is nice to get comments.

I'll go with the flow - lets guage it for a week or so :D :D

It might be good to have comments tho as we might have a question about technique or products to ask whoever's done the card.

Like everyone else, I'm loving the forum. I'm a cardmaker who is just dipping a toe into scrapping (off to my first crop this week, am very excited!) but it's great to have links and topics for us cardmakers!

You are doing such a good job, we do appreciate it!

It's great to have dedicated place for cards, it very easy to access compared to the gallery and like the fact that you can share without using up space in your own gallery - mine too is a little on the plump side!

Well done Janice, this is a great place to be!

It has been a horrible few weeks in this house, which has stopped me from participating in the challenges (except the first one) but I do intend to be more active. At the moment, cardmaking is taking over from scrapbooking.. but that will change after Christmas!

I am exactly the same. As soon as it gets to October my scrapbboking mojo fades along with my fake tan and I come over all card-making-i-fied ( ) As soon as Christmas is done (along with the thank you cards - YAAAAWWWNNN) I get back to me scrappin. :)

Hello everyone......Newbie here!!!!!
More used to the Ebay groups, so bear with me, this place is hhhhuuuuuuggggeeeeee!!!!!! Getting myself lost in all sorts of places, when I dare to venture.....LOL.
I have just completed a Congratulations Card for my daughter and her partner who have just had a baby girl, my first grand-daughter!!!!
For whom I'm already setting aside a crafting box and a very large tub of sparkly pink and silver glitter.............LOL.
I have recently joined the UKScrappers group because I'm about to enter into the world of Scrapbooking, as I would like to make a keepsake Album of all the photo's that we will all be taking of baby Alisha.
I will try and put a piccie of the Card in, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it, so bear with me.......................scarletslady.

Gone into insert an image.........no good.......how do I upload piccies from the saved images in my computer?????????

scarletslady
27-10-2006, 08:54 AM
Picked up some info in another thread so might be able to upload piccie now. Hoping that this is an acceptable place, and I'm not breaking any rules...LOL.

No....can't upload.....says file is too big......I have to resize......will have to look for another thread that has instructions on how to do this techie bit now. Oh well you learn something everyday........scarletslady. ;)

I think a monthly chat thread would be good for those who want to chat without starting extra threads all the time. Like the monthly ones over on ATC's I play there quite a bit!

Will definitely drop in more often, thanks Janice
