Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but i was wondering if any of you ladies would help me. My mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer 2 weeks ago, shes had the op etc and is now waiting for the radiotherapy. She has decided that she wants to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and has organised a stall at a rugby club (FOC as she used to work there). She has asked me to make some cards to sell and i was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to make some for me to sell on the stall. ALL the money raised will be donated online to this page (http://www.justgiving.com/momospage). Ive started making some but have limited time (the stall is on the 28th of October). Any cards will do Birthday, Christmas, Wedding etc...We will also be doing cakes, homemade jams (both me and mum are qualified chefs) and a raffle on the stall.

If anyone would like to make a card or two:D to help Breast Cancer Care then me and my mum (and 2 aunties plus countless other people) would be really grateful......:D

What a fantasic idea for fundraising. If everyone donated just 1 card it'll be a good start. Everyone is so kind on here I'm sure you'll get loads. I'd love to know how many you get.

PM me your addy, only thing I don't have is those plastic packets to put cards in to keep them safe.

Why don't you ask on the other forums for other useful things to sell?

I got breast cancer 3 years ago, had an op, had to have chemo & radio, got over that, then last year got secondaries, bone cancer n my right arm. Got over that - feeling good, ride a mountain bike now, also do Norse Pole walking, & have a whole new outlook on life. Love to yur Mum, we are survivors! I'll never get to ride across USA like Jane Tomlinson, or walk marathons like Findlay What's his name, but I'm working on it!! Will send some cards if you PM me. Power.

I would love to help you out with a few cards too, my Nan has had breast cancer twice, once as a young woman, and then also again about 6 years ago, she is fine now, so anything to help raise funds for a worthy cause such as this is the least I can do:wub:

I know I've only just joined but if you PM me your address I'll send some to you. When I was well I used to be a radiographer doing mammos, so I know how devastating it can be, but also I know how many women are surviving these days and how important the donations to charities are.

oh on the subject of cancer are you all aware that CLIC (cancer and leukemia in children) collect stamps and they get money for them not sure how much but they do get something for them. I'll have to ask when I go there again.

So when you all get things in the post remember to save your used stamps and pop them into one of the CLIC charity shops.

Acidburnrosie
06-10-2006, 04:43 PM
My local cancer research shop collects stamps so i will take them there (always do) but it is a good idea. However if you want me to send you the used stamps to donate to that charity the i will, just let me know:D

Hi, I'm very new at this forum thingy and this is the first reply I've posted but I was very touched by your mum's idea to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. I ran the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research earlier in the year for the first time and had to stop reading all the reasons why people were running in the end in order that I wasn't a complete soggy mess at the finishing line. I would love to send you some cards if you PM me your address I'll get right onto it. Hope I've done this right!

The good news....33 cards received today....from jay, lazykaz and suzbits, thay are all fantastic....

The bad news.....mums cancer has spread. She has to have another operation tomorrow to remove the whole breast as there are pockets of tumours but not big enough to show up on mamograms. She will have to have chemo and radiotherapy. She is already talking about what wigs she wants and the colours of the headscarfs she can have. There has been a few tears but she said "she would rather lose a tit, than her life" She is amazing...i dont think i would cope as well if it were me.....

I'm sorry to hear your mum's got more surgery to face, but it sounds like she has a good attitude. She's getting the right treatment for her and its better that they were too small to be seen on the mammo than having been there a while. She's confronting it head-on but I'm sure she's suffering inside so give her a hug from me and one for you too. We're all rooting for you.

Glad the bits arrived ok.

10-10-2006, 05:34 PM
what else are you selling on your stall? is it gonna just be a fundraising stall for breast cancer? Is it well advertised? I am only asking as I had a thought as your mum is talking of which colour headscarves etc. Maybe little late but maybe you could ask for people to make some to put on your stall as there are a lot of women who need them. Lots of people have fabric lying around doing nothing.

GOOD LUCK for the weekend hope it goes really well and you sell everything! :)
How much are they selling for? just being nosey as you said you'd made £40 and was wondering how many you'd sold. Will you have another with your leftovers or give them to charity? Again I'm nosey!:D

Hope your mum is feeling a lot better too.

Oh and I read in a mag that beetroot is really good for turning cancer cells back to normal, not something I heard before. So I thought I'd share it with you all.

Mum has said that other cards have arrived but i wont know who from until i get home. We already have another stall planned in a couple of weeks so any remaining cards will be sold then...we have sold most of the cards for £2.00 and some for £2.50 (we thought that it was better to sell them all than have loads left over).....:D

I will tell my mum that beetroots good for her....luckily she loves the stuff!!!

Hiya all...thanks to ladies that send cards in while i was away......altogether with the raffle, tambola and cards we have raised £386 (ithink the card sales were around the £100 mark). Mum will go through the actual figures tomorrow with me. We do have another sale of cards planned for the end of November so hopefully we will sell lots more then.

Some of you may know that i made my mum a mini book to show that we are all thinking of her...she has put everyone of the letters/cards sent with the cards in there too....she really does appreciate all the kind words and good luck vibes that you have sent....Thank you so much.....

I will keep everyone updated with the amount of cards sold.....

Hello everyone...just a quick update.....

Mums doing fine, she had her first lot of chemo on Monday and apart from feeling a little tired she has had no other symptoms...which is really good (although she does realise that it could be totally different the next time). Her liver scan came back clear and her bone scan showed one hotspot on her t12 (thoracic vertebra) however 3 years ago mum crushed the one so they think it is just that showing...they sent her for a full MRI scan 2 yesterday (normally you have to wait months but mum got yet another cancellation !!) just to make sure.

We are having another sale on Sunday when our town switches on its christmas lights so hopefully we will raise lots of money again....and i will post to say how much...

Mum has asked me to say a huge thank you for all the get well wishes, the cards, and the support she feels she is getting from all of you ladies...it really does mean alot to her. She has also told me to say that every letter that has been sent in with the cards, she has keep in her memory box and when she is feeling a little low she gets them out for a read...

She is really determined to beat her cancer and all those messages have helped her to be very positive...so for that i thank you from the bottom of my heart.....

Would it be alright with everyone if there are any cards left over that i donate them to the sponser who is also raising funds for BCC....that way they wont just be sitting in a box...

So glad to hear that your Mum is doing ok :D

I think that is a great idea for the cards to be passed on - much better than having them sitting around getting dusty etc.

:D :D Keep us posted on your mum's progress and I hope the Scan goes well :D

Yep me too, after all we sent them in to raise funds for breast cancer charities. Tell your mum to rest loads and let others do things for her as much as she can cope with - its difficult when you're used to doing things yourself but she has to be good, she needs her energy to recover. Sending her hugs.
