Hi there!
I'm a complete newbie to digi LOs. I've altered a few photos in PSP, but only just starting to experiment with doing a whole page.
Can anyone tell me if you can get a torn edge look, using PSP? I want to make it look as if I've torn round the edge of a photo, or along the side of backgorund papers.
Also I downloaded a free kit earlier, and I'm puzzled!! The buttons and tags etc. don't seem to be on transparent backgrounds, so you have to select them and 'cut them out' first - is this usual?
Thanks in advance for your help:D

One of my fav techniques to use is the torn edges as shown in my LO here (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=81969&cat=500&ppuser=14354).
I use photoshop CS, but imagine you can do something similar in PSP. Put the 'paper' on a layer on its own. Use the 'smudge' tool and a raggedy brush (like a spong effect or anything with irregular edges works best), and smudge the egdes of the paper - moving from the papers edge to outside the paper. Vary the direction in which you smudge the paper, and also the amount of smudging (distance you move the mouse). The apply a small dropshadow, and even a very small bevel to the layer.
This effect works best on non patterned papers (else you smudge the pattern). I usually use it on a solid block of colour to form my paper (often picking the colour directly from the photo) with a transprancy of about 80%. After i have torn the edges, i apply a overlaid pattern of some sort of natural paper to make it look extra real.
I think the overall effect looks very much like real torn mullberry paper, and i often get comments whenever i use this effect.

I simply bought some torn edge overlays to put over my papers. I know Atomic cupcake also has some torn edge actions, at the push of button you can get the torn edge look.

I printed off this tutorial and by the end of the night I had done some torn paper using pse5 (trial version) loved it. Heres what I managed using SP Splendid kit. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.:D
