As August is the month for us to enjoy The Edinburgh Festival, The Fringe and Notting Hill Carnival as well as all those sunny outdoor barbeques, I have chosen ‘Parties and Celebrations’ as this months theme.

As always the theme is open to your interpretation – I want to see how you party.

This month's prize has been generously donated by noctrl of clevercut (http://www.clevercut.co.uk/) - more details to follow.

Rules:

1) Your photo must be taken by yourself, between now and August 31st, please do not submit a previously taken picture.

2) You have until midnight on August 31st to enter the competition, by uploading your photographs (you may enter as many times as you like but only one entry will be selected for the final 20) to the 'Photography Competition' gallery.

3) Please put August 06 at the beginning of your title when you load it up into the gallery as otherwise over time all the entries from the different months will kind of merge into each other. Only photos identified in this way will be considered for the top 20.

4) In the description when you upload, please tell us a little about the subject of the photo, and what camera / settings you used

5) Please note that you may manipulate your photo in a graphics programme prior to entering it in the competition, if you wish.

How will the entries be judged?

As this month's host, I will whittle down the entries to a shortlist of 20 photos (no more than one from each entrant - if you enter more than once I will attempt to choose the photo I think stands the best chance of getting you the most votes)

The criteria I will use to judge each photo will be:
1) composition
2) technical considerations (eg. focus, tonal range etc)
3) overall impact
4) does it fit the brief?

On 1st September 2006, I will set up a voting poll in this forum and also a link to the 20 shortlisted images. The poll will be open for 7 days, and at the end, we will have a winner.

Finally, don't forget - voting (http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=121892) for the July winner is open until August 7th - if you haven't yet voted, please come and check out the finalists and show them your support!

Thanks for organising Donna, great theme especially as this week we have a Riverside Festival in the town I live, it's my son's 18th and family over from Teneriffe and a host of other birthdays, so plenty of photo opportunities!

that sounds good - are they hot air balloons? That'll make for some fantastic photos! Lucky you - nothing so dramatic around here!

Yes Hot Air Balloons, some are fab, and the morning flight is fantastic but just a tad too early for me, so it will be the evening flight I will go to. I have proabaly cursed it now and it will rain :)

Can't wait for the Balloon Festival Ali, my BIL and Niece fly their balloon each year at this event. Hopefully the weather will hold well for it this year, fingers crossed for a great event and lots of photo opportunities

Doh, why this month, In July we had two 90th Birthday Parties in the family, had a great time, will have to think again. We have a balloon festival in Bristol, but it is a pain to get to and all the traffic, tend to give it a miss. Made it one yr for a trip,. a 5am start, but it was too windy to go up.

We are going to Dartmouth regatta wonder if I can find anything Party and Celebration like for that.

if only my 4 year old could have hung on in the womb for another 2 weeks, his birthday would have been in August, and I could have entered this photo of his brother on the bouncy castle at his party into the comp!

grrrrrr!

no parties for me this month, but I'm sure I can think of something else celebratory to photograph (in fact, I can feel Notting Hill calling me - my OH wouldn't let me go last year because it was just after the London bombings, but hopefully he'll have relaxed about all that by now....)
