Finally sitting here with my new camera. After a lot of deliberation and trying different lenses and my BIL's camera and wide choice of lenses succombed to the EOD 350D plus a Tamron 18-200mm lens. So long since I used an SLR so brushing up on the manual:rolleyes:

It is certainly a lot heavier than my digi point and shoot but hopefully can start taking some decent photos again rather than the snaps I was taking with our little camera. Am looking forward to not having to wait several seconds for each picture to save between shots.

Will have a play tomorrow to get used to the extra weight. I like the feel of this camera, just right size for my hands.

(Very early birthday pressie, DH said no point in not having it over the summer.):D :D :D

I'll let you know when had it for a while. It has a number of easy presets eg portraits, landscape, indoor portrait etc so can use those if don't want to play with settings. As my old ( actually very old) SLR was totally manual I am getting used to autofocus etc. I spent till late last night reading the manual and have had a bit more of a play with settings today. It has a lot of options but you don't have to use them all. I certainly won't be using some, certainly initially.

Helen, I'm looking to get a zoom lense. In fact I'm going to post a thread asking for advice, but I'm interested in how you are finding your tamron one?

Very happy with my zoom. I know a lot of people get the similar Sigma one but I found the Sigma was quite a bit heavier and slower to autofocus. Other than that couldn't really compare them before buying so got nothing to compare to. Only comment I woudl have about the combination is it is (just like my old digi) very keen to engage flash when not necessary so I turn flash off even when using auto. I don't think that is a lens issue.

Only major problem with this camera is easy to take loads ( and I mean loads of photos). Out for a day and have taken 150 photos   As you can see from my avator went to the animal park.
