Printing photos

Can anyone explain to me why my photos print out darker than what they appear on the computer?
I took a lovely photo of the sun's rays this morning and on the computer it looks lovely - then when I uploaded it for the photo comp it was just dark and you couldn't make out what it was all about, where did I go wrong??

Hmmm..it's probably a case of your monitor needing calibration, rather than you doing anything wrong :) Are you using Photoshop at all? Because if you are, it comes with a calibration program called Adobe Gamma which will do the job nicely for you :)
