Ooo did we move - Or are you playing hide n seek? :)
LOL I'm too keen to be put off that easily! :P
Someone was asking about the different colours on my domino - I just inked the stamp with stamping pens rather than a pad - I hope it stays on. I have worn it and it appears to be staying on.
Should I seal it - if so what with?
heavensent_7

That was me asking :) Are stamping pens permanent ink? If not how would you seal them without them running?? It is beautiful anyway I LOVE it. :) I can't wait to try one.

I joined the domino swap!!!! I must be MAD LOL. I made my FIRST ever domino TODAY because I joined and I figured I better practise LOL - It's awful :( (well it's not awful, that's a bit harsh, but it's not how I imagined) As I was practising as well I used one of the kids ones LOL and I think it's smaller than usual and I didn't find it very easy to do.

Bev, your stuff is never awful. Sometimes seriously different LOL, but absolutely never awful!
Oh dear I nearly wet myself LOL! "Seriously different" - DH said "Yep that about sums you up" I honestly nearly choked on my coffee
OK back to the domino effort, I think it's small like I said, but as it was a practise that didn't really matter. It's just I thought, I'll practise and then do the 'proper' one but now I'm scared!
Awful was harsh, but I put metal tape around it, I thought it would look like a microscope slide (which I also haven't made one of yet LOL) but it's just wonky and wrong and small and well you know :(
Anyway going to find batteries for the camera as mine have just run out (taking I lost my tooth pics :D - Well not of me of course - thankfully LOL) I'll get a pic ASAP.
Brace yourselves LOL and be kind to Bev it is my 1st disaster. Well you know not my 1st disaster by any means (or the last no doubt!) Oh I'll just shut up and find some batteries!

Sorry for the dreadful photo. I'd like to say it doesn't do them justice LOL, but it's just an awful photo of awful dominos :(

Try not to laugh too much

I think they look lovely - especially the one on the left, what do you need to do to 'finish' it? I've just done my first napkin ones for the domino swap. I'd happily swap dominos with you any day.

What glue did you use to stick the napkin onto the domino ??? For dominoes, I tend to use Diamond Glaze/Anitas 3-D etc., mod podge/PVA doesn't work as well, or glue as good.
Also - you should only use 1-ply of the napkin ie., the piece with the picture on ... you must peel off all the other layers of napkin ... ie., if its 3-ply, peel off 2 layers and just use the last one ... I hope i've explained that ok ???
Cal xx
heavensent_7
16-07-2006, 02:18 AM
Thank you Annie  - The napkin one isn't drying but if it does it just needs 'finishing' somehow? You know it's rough around the edges and stuff anyway like I say it won't dry at the moment.
Cal - I did use just the 1 ply of the napkin, I didn't know what glue to use and I have something (I've had for AGES and never used!) It's called napkin podge??? It just won't dry though, it's all sticky. I'll have a look at it again tomorrow (or later today now) It's a shame though because I have Anitas 3D
Oh well never mind, I'll know better next time. How do you put that stuff on anyway? I used it to glaze my bottle cap bracelet but it's really thick (I know it's meant to be) I just spread it about with the nozzle but it leaves marks and sometimes air bubbles too.

Bev, your dominoes are so NOT awful!!! You are such an inspiration - I envy all the ideas you come up with!!
If trhe napkin one doesn't dry, I'd try ity again but this time with Anita's 3D - that dries lovely and shiny on dominoes :)
Where did you get that napkin from??
Hysteri-CAL
16-07-2006, 11:13 AM
Bev - I cover my domino with Diamong Glaze/Anita's 3D .. and then lay the serviette over ... I have a little scrunch about until i'm happy with it. I then leave it to dry. Once its dried completely, I go over the domino again with DG if I want a shiny finish .. if not, then I finish decorating the domino - and thats it !!!
Two of the dominoes in my gallery are serviette dominoes.
Annie
16-07-2006, 11:28 AM
Bev, they are scrummy and I'd swap them like a shot :D
Cherry, wilco on the fat books thing, but will have to be next week if that's ok as we are off for a few days from tomorrow, and I have no scanner so it will have to go into work with DH to be done.
I normally use PVA or DG on dominoes. I did loads yesterday, and would love to upload a pic but some are for the swap, so I suppose I'd best not.
Jean, you do have me down for the next kit, don't you? And can you put some beeswax aside for me, please? I have a bit of plain beeswax at home but that's for my soap, and I'll only get cross with myself when I come to make some soap and I've used it all on altered stuff!
heavensent_7
16-07-2006, 01:57 PM
Oh WOW! Thanks for all being so kind about the wonky domino :D
The other one still isn't dry this morning and I only have ONE of those napkins, it had 4 images and I've used 2 of them messing it up! So I've put anitas 3D over the top of the not drying sticky stuff, I have no idea if it will just make it all worse LOL.
The napkin (and the reason I only have one of them) was sent to me when I bought the napkin podge as a little extra RAK, it's really cute with flower fairies on it. So I wasted it a bit by tearing most of it off!
Off out now - Even though it's too hot here to go anywhere. See you all later, and Thanks again
Annie

Will still scan the article, but basically what she had done was do a fat book like this one here
http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/skinnybk.html
then cut out a 2.5"x3.5" hole in a piece of card and moved it around till she found a bit of the page LO that would make a good ATC, and reproduced the "bit" as an ATC. She then stuck the ATC over the top of the original image with something non-permanent, and then when she swapped out the ATC she still had the original artwork and she used the fat book as storage for her swap ATCs. I think from memory that was the gist of it anyway.
Annie
16-07-2006, 04:10 PM
Actually, looking at that totally lush creation, does anyone fancy doing a fat book sort of like a circle journal like she has done? I am thinking you could do it in reverse to the way the person in the mag did it : do your fat book entry and ATC of a bit of it and send it the CJ and keep the ATC as a piece of the entry you did for someone else. Does that make any sense to anyone?
Annie

still trying to figure out what a fat book is  and no- its probably me but i get no sense of what you mean at all :D
Annie
16-07-2006, 04:41 PM
Well I must admit I am struggling to understand the difference between a fat book and an art journal, but I think it is sort of like an art circle journal LOL. Where an art journal is your art and your journalling, a fat book seems to be one done as a circle journal. Ready to stand corrected though.
And as regards the CJ/ATC thing, takes deep breath and tries to explain better. If we all had a fat book/circle journal/whatever you want to call it, and did an entry in each one, but duplicated a 2.5x3.5 bit as an ATC to keep. Then instead of the CJ owner having your artwork you would have a bit to keep. Or the way they seem to have done it in the article is that you do the LO and the ATC and send them both on. Either way, it looked like a lot of fun.

Yikes! Have dug out the article and a fat book is 4x4 (so nice and manageable) but typically has 45-60 contributors :o (which would be why it is fat, of course!) I guess then rather than it being a circle journal, which would take forever and cost the earth to post, you would do it like the ongoing ATC swap thing and have a list of people playing and you send to the next on the list that you haven't sent to yet. That would allow for differing timescales for different people, people to come and go from the list, etc.
Annie
16-07-2006, 04:58 PM
LOL that was the one I linked to a few posts back! Isn't it fabby?

I think it would need some careful organising if we're all to end up with 60 plus pages !!! In theory sounds great tho !
Annie
16-07-2006, 05:24 PM
I have read it properly now! What they have done is do one piece of 4x4. One side is your entry and the back is a very simple collage or whatever with your details on, like the back of an ATC. So the back of yours forms the LHS of a double, iykwim. So to get over any clashes, she has chosen a white/cream colour scheme, so that everyone's work tones together. Then from the front, you choose your ATC sized bit and make an identical ATC of it, so that when you put your ATC on top it fits exactly with no glitches. You attach your ATC with clips/bulldog clips/pockets/ribbon/whatever and send the LO and the ATC. Then the recipient can either keep it intact or trade the ATC. I'd be inclined to make 2 ATCs and keep one for me too.
I guess this would be a rolling thread in the Altered Art forum rather than a swap as such, as it would be ongoing, potentially with people coming and going as suited them. I quite fancy a go, the "artier" and more altered the better for me LOL, and if some of youse guys are interested I'd post a thread (when I am back from hols on Friday, probably) and see how many people bite.
And I have read LME's thread again, and she did it on an "I do for you and you do for me" basis. So we could either do it like that or you do, say, the 2 below you on the list that you haven't done yet, each month.

Cherry that is lovely! I think I shall do a fairy version - gotta get mileage out of my stamps LOL.
Jean, because potentially it could be open to a lot of people, I'd do it in the most flexible way possible. Maybe the 1 for 1 swap would be best, as then people could do the odd one here and there, or jump in and do lots. Will have a think this week and then bung a thread up when I have thought it through a bit more.
And the ATC trade thing is that you trade other people's cards. We only seem to trade our own creations on here, but apparently other places you can trade ones you have got by trade iykwim. A bit like Disney pin trading - just because you have traded pin A for pin B, doesn't mean you have to keep pin B. You can trade pin B for pin C later if you want. I think no-one has done it on here in case of bad form, but if they were made expressly for that, then no-one could mind/complain, could they? Although I think I would keep mine complete.....

Hi everyone, back from my weekend camping. My domino from the kit was a bit of a nightmare.... I used versafine ink not staz-on and it didn't dry over the weekend completely so I covered the worse smudge(I was checking to see it it was wet LOL!!!) with a bit of bling and PVA covered the whole thing and it looks kinda fuzzy but i like it!!! As for the bracelet..... well it is still drying but that is enough said on the matter frankly!!! I will just keep an eye on what you guys are doing and get some more tips (tried to do my own thing - silly girl!!!!)

I have NO idea if this works as I'm really new to this, but I read somewhere you can dry them out if you heat set them with a rubberstamping heat gun? Might be worth a try if you have one?

Thanks for the fabby mini kit, Jean :) It arrived today and I shall have a play later - in this heat I don't even need to bother with the melting pot  Just put the wax outside and it'll melt in 5 minutes

You melt the besswax (just put it in a bowl and sit outside with it  Alternatively use either a melting pot or put the wax in a heat proof dish and heat it with a heat gun until it melts) and use it as adhesive and varnish for collages :) Apply with a brush or finger (CAREFUL! It's HOT!) and add more after each layer of your collage images.

the wax is best used to give a "varnish" (the effect will be dull not shiny , if you know what i mean , if you rub the wax when set itbe comes more shiny)to your items , rather than a glue, use it on ATC's to add texture it realy is a nice effect , put on one layer with a brush and then build them up for depth and colour , go on song have a mess around with it , it's good fun

Hi Sue Hi Sonja :D
Well I received some great stuff, lots of games pieces - jigsaws, counters, bottle caps, dominoes, coasters etc. Couldn't tell you what kit it is. Anyway I've been pondering what to do with them but I'm gonna ponder a little bit more before I play. Ideas have varied from doing a 'Games' altered book, to a decorated bottle, and I'm thinking perhaps I could also do something colour related taking inspiration from the poker chips. As I say, lots of ideas but I'm waiting for the Aha moment to strike :D

Yup an Art Doll crossed my mind & I threw the thought out straight away. I'm afraid I don't like them. I've seen them in various publications and Ginger has one on her Tote bag but I haven't taken to them. Not seen one I like yet. I love the idea of them and I love the creativity behind them but they are just too freaky for me :D However there are plenty of people who do love them as there is a whole magazine devoted to them. Maybe one day I'll be persuaded but not perhaps for this kit

Thanks all...have to say I'm pleased with the results plus most importantly I had fun making them.
Yes I made three things from all the kits elements.
The jigsaws were painted with orange acrylic paint, then I stamped a gridded pattern whilst jigsaw was connected together. When dry, I stamped a textured image and used the embossing powders from the kit. I then separated the pieces and added an eyelet to each. Finally I took a tiny stamp and versamarked it onto each and embossed in gold.
The book was made by gessoing the coasters then adding neutral coloured acrylic paints. I stamped my images on each and put eyelets on the edges. I tied the coasters together with rubber string knotted at back. I cut out various collage images from kit and stuck onto bottle caps. I tied thread thru each hole in caps. Then stuck onto coasters.
The cubes I painted with black gesso then daubed blobs of vaseline on (a technique in one of Claudine Hellmuths books and copied by Tim Holtz in his latest DVD) then I daubed on various mettalic paints. The circular numbers were a challenge but I painted them in black gesso then mettalic blue. I carefully versamaked over the raised numbers and embossed red powder over each. The dominoes I coated in textured medium then painted black before adding Perfect Pearls Iridescent powders. Made them look like jewelled stones. I'm not keen on alcohol inks but in order to use the copper paint in my kit, I daubed the dice with red and copper inks. Glued whole lot together and voila.

that would be great , the basket system is still not working how it should , so emailing is much better if you dont mind
Jean, what are the Queens Dresser Drawers Skinni Minis ? Not clear from the site. They are under stamps but I assume they are images of some kind?
nejxr25
10-08-2006, 04:52 PM
yes they are images , very nice too , strange place to have them i know with the stamps but since they are by QDD company i thought i would slip them in there
they are a similar sort of thing to tim holtz doo dads but nicer , great quality and ideal for ATC an other altered things

As somebody mentioned it can I just say: The old site, if you clicked on the pics they were big enough to see in some more detail but on the new site they don't get any bigger. Personally if I didn't already KNOW they were LUSH I probably wouldn't order.
Sorry to be negative but I don't want you to lose orders if you can change it still because the products are GORGEOUS!

Ah well *sigh* you can't blame me for trying, I have five good teachers in the art of manipulation here
Ok then, I'll try sulking instead and vote - bovvered?
I'm so naughty tonight! I've been doing this on another thread too! I think I'll go to bed before I get myself in trouble LOL.
If I say something like "I really don't mind, whatever is most convenient and acceptable to yourself and the group" can I have more stash now???
OK, OK, I'm going!

E-mail is Ok with me Jean - suppose it would only really be a problem with anyone on dial up if it is a large file

Jean I have a few questions:
What size were the links that came with our bottle top bracelets please? I just bought some links from eBay but they are so small you can hardly see them LOL - You don't sell them do you?
And do you sell the bottle top stickers?
I've made some more can jewelry - butterflies and stuff and somebody approached me to buy some for their shop!!! I'm so excited! :)

Emm I think I am confusing things - the kit with the melting pot? I'm sure you mentioned something about that   The is an artical in creative scrapbooking about using UTEE and melting pots.
Is it easy to use and do you stock it?

I've finished my jigsaws. I had a hairy moment on monday though.
I craft on a table in my sewing room and had purposely stored the jigsaw pieces high up away from prying fingers. My 2 boys had got up very early and my eldest explained that elijah (age 2) was in the sewing room. I rushed in to find him on the desk, storage boxes all over the place and the jigsaws gone. I quickly found the 3 plain ones in their bag but the finished ones which had been separate were missing. I found 2 on the shelves beside him and 3 on the curtain but one was nowhere to be found! We spent an hour searching my untidy sewing room, through papers under the table, bags on shelves. And I eventually found it wrapped in spaceman fabric on the floor. Phew!
annie
Oh no Annie - I'm glad they all turned up.
As I've been on hols I've not started the jigsaws and atm I have no ideas :( I'm off today so I hope to trawl some sites for inspiration.

Some very pretty goodies arrived in the post this morning! Love the embellies, so cute and so many! The colours, surprisingly for someone who makes floral nappies, aren't ones I usually use (more of a sludge than a pastel myself, lol!) but I'm definitely going to find uses for these, especially as the papers are so scrummy.
Thank you so much Jean, a wonderful kit again, brimful of interesting things at a bargain price.

Awwww Thank you Jean! My stickers that I bought, I lost one of them as it got stuck to a 12 x 12 sheet of paper, so that got spoilt too :( But it was nothing major really, the majority of it is fine. The postie just annoys me the way they even leave my recorded delivery parcels on the front doorstep!!! (ok DON'T start me off!)
I can't believe everybody is so controlled opening their boxes! Mine came VERY well wrapped and I couldn't get into it at first, I looked up and DH was cracking up laughing, he said "Calm down! It'll still be there in 5 minutes!" I was like a woman possessed LOL.
Oh and BTW if we're not allowed to open the birthday ones until our birthdays you better make sure mine comes ON my birthday ;) :D
Ohhhhhh I LOVE my kits
