My camera fell and I just recieved news that repairing it will cost £129.00.
I've had it since May 1st and reeeeeaaally loved evrything about it. I even forgave it for bieng not-so-slim:lol:
But my delimma is do I just fork the money over or get it repaired? I did pay £150'ish for it;) . What other cam is similiar.

Sorry forgot to say it's a Fuji S7000.

So sorry to hear that. I too was gonna ask about claiming for it. If you cant, then i personally would pay £130 for it to be repaired. i'd get a new one. Good luck with whatever you do

I'd get a new one at that price. You must be devastated! Definitely worth trying your insurance company first.

Poor you Marilyn, I'd try the household insurance as well as accidental damage is often covered. Did you pay for a repair warranty? could that cover it? Hope you solve your dilemma.

Exactly what I thought - we have accidental damage insurance which covers things like this. Its worth checking.

*most* household policies do include accidental damage. If yours doesn't I would definitely look around and see what is available - most things come down quite steadily in price so you may find you can replace it for the same as the repair - you can then sell the damaged one as spares or repair - so long as you advertise it as such you may find a camera enthusiast who would pay a few quid (ok not much but every little helps!)

oh what a nightmare! I had lots of problems with my last camera so when I upgraded I added in the cost of an extra two years warranty just for £35 from Jessops and it covers everything down to the kids dropping it in the toilet! I'm not a big believer of warranties but with cameras I make an exception because of they way they are taken around everywhere and subjected to weather and so on.

I've currently got my eye on the new Fuji E900 as it's mostly a compact digital but you can add lenses to it (telephoto etc). At £179 (Amazon) it's an excellent deal for a 9 megapixel camera. My fave bit is it has an underwater housing and can take RAW format images which are necessary for underwater photography really.

I dropped my 2 month old minolta Z5 in october:( It wasn't worth claiming on the insurance cos the excess was £150! DH was lovely enough to let me buy it again - but the newer model had come out too!! So I go the Z6 for the same price and definatly took out the camera insurance like fruitysuet - the one time a £35 insurance is well spent!

My DS sprung the flap holding the batteries on my first digi camera - it wasn't covered but when I took it to see about mending it I was told it cost £50 just to look at it cos it had the word 'digital' in the description. It just lived with selotape holding the batteries in for the rest of it's life!
