My tutorials (http://web.mac.com/becksibook/iWeb/Home/DSLR%20guide/DSLR%20guide.html)cover a lot of things which are equally applicable to compact cameras with some manual or semi-manual features. There's also one article on Program Modes, which is very much applicable to cameras. As with all cameras, you need to read the manual to find out how to use those features with your specific model.

I also found this article which you might find useful. http://www.photo.net/learn/point-and-shoot-tips

Much appreciated, Becks, and thanks for asking, Jo :D .

I think it is often forgotten that you can take some wonderful pics with compacts, if you use their good features and work around their shortcomings.

Don't forget that most of us who now own DSLRs have probably had several compacts before that and taken pics they were really happy with. I had two compact digitals before my D70 and I still love the photos I took with them. :)

 I'm quite little already ;)

Don't know if anyone saw A Picture of Britain's episode where they let some pro photographers loose with a mobile phone camera. The results proved that you can take great pics with even the most basic equipment.
