Book marking for future reference.

Niamh - I usually stick to auto if Im honest! I tried taking some pics of friend on her horse doing some jumping - I started out with the sports mode - but they were awful - went back to auto and they came out lovely!!

Just line your camera up where you want to shoot the picture - dont try to follow the subject IYSWIM ;)

Niamh, you need it on aperture priority. This is how it works on my 9500. Set the mode dial to 'A' then you will see two numbers at the bottom of the lcd screen. Both numbers need to be in blue...so toggle the other dial on the top of the camera body until they are. You don't really need to master the number settings just yet, just fiddle for now :)
Will attach a pic to show you how it makes a difference!

Here we go...
Not a fantastic example, but Lettie was going at full canter (which is very very fast!) and I was just clicking away from the barn! Should give you a good idea of what kind of a difference it makes!

YAY - I DID IT!!!!

Here is a photo I have used following the instructions from the fuji forum - in the absence of any REAL flowers - and due to the strong winds in the garden I needed to photograph a "steady" object. Had this ornament and thought it might do the trick....hey presto! A gorgeous close up with a blurred background.

You need to follow the instructions I posted yesterday (on the old thread) but you need to use a tripod - camera set on FULL ZOOM - taking the camera away from item until in shot as you require ;)

You need to use the up and down arrows, on the ring around the menu button, NOT the left to right arrows - sometimes you have to press quite a lot before it starts to move - and you need to have the camera focused on the subject as you do it.

If taking photo outside the settings change as the lighting changes.

ok managed to get the pointer moving lol....followed the instruction on old thread...zoomed in and moved back till thing was in shot but it wouldn't bloomin focus and this is what i eneded up with lol...pretty hiddious. does fab clear normal shots though lol

guess i need to join that forum you found hun...any chance of a link....

That looks more like camera shake to me, do you have a tripod you could use? Or somewhere you can set up on a steady surface

eaton0171
24-05-2006, 03:34 PM
i had the cam reastin on the mantal piece so i wasnt holding it just pressed the button lol......i can tell i am gonna have lots of fun with this hehehe

TraceyJ
24-05-2006, 03:50 PM
I did use a tripod for my shot.

Also - if you are TOO close to the subject once you have used the full zoom then it will not focus properly on it - you need to move back until the subject CAN be focused on properly. also - make sure your makro is on too!

To make the background blurred it needs to be some distance from the subject IYSWIM, which is why a flower head works well if not in BUNCH ;)

I had the subject sitting on edge of decking - the background is the hedge right at the bottom of the garden - over 40 ft away!;)

Niamh (great name, same as my DD!) if you want to catch really fast movement, set the camera to shutter priority and go for the highest number you can without the camera flashing to say it will blur. What you are doing is taking the picture in a fraction of a second, so 1/1000 is faster than 1/500 for example. If it seems blurry, you could increase the ISO in the camera settings to let more light reach the sensor or reduce the speed so it is 1/350. Hope this helps a bit. You should have no problem in broad daylight with this speed. :)

i had bought the olympus sp500 for the size but am not as impressed with the picture quality as i am with the fine pix so i will just have to get used to the size!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Not quite so impressive as the first - but rain stopped play!

I am off on holiday tomorrow so I hope for PLENTY of photography time - AFTER I have got up at 8am to help get in 14 horses - groom them - tack them up - escort rides all day - go out riding myself - untack the horses -feed the horses - put them all back out in the field - in other words - so long as we have light evenings I SHOULD get some photos taken!

I got a fuji s5500 for £100!!!! second hand though! but ....***doing the happy dance*** i am still using the camera with films lol!! so going digital when i get this camera in a couple of days time! cant wait to take pics with it as your photos are fab!!

kate8679
06-06-2006, 09:48 AM
wow! you are going to be amazed at the difference between the old film cameras and a digi! - well as long as you have a large enough memory card. The freedom of being able to take LOADS of pics and not worry about wasting film is great!!
I was at our local airshow last week and out of maybe 100 shots i got 10 really good ones and another 20 useable. This one was taken from the top of the cliff while the heli was out over the sea (obviously!) so i was miles away but the detail you can see with 10x zoom is great

Sharon NI
06-06-2006, 10:26 AM
Wow, that is really good shot did you have extra tele zoom lens attached to your camera for that shot?

Memory card... I am getting 16mb with the camera and I have looked online for a bigger memory card and keep seeing XD type "H" or type "M" what is the difference between type H and type M?

TraceyJ
06-06-2006, 10:35 AM
you shouild get a 256mb card at least!! I couldn't manage with less - and am hoping to get a bigger one soon;)

kate8679
06-06-2006, 10:36 AM
i just used the 10 zoom on the camera - no extra lens - i can actually see more detail in the pic than i could on the day with my own eyes!!
With the 16mb card i think i could get 9 pics taken on 5mp mode, i now have 256mb card which can hold 204 pics on 5mp
the difference between m + h is just the way they encode info - according to fuji there is no difference in performance or quality

Sharon NI
06-06-2006, 10:51 AM
Thanks for that info.....Oh I am getting really excited now! no extra zoom lens and you got that shot! many days i have lost a shot cos i had to walk up to the kids and the moment was gone as they turned to look at me .... i have loads of tiny hard to make out pictures of kids kneeboarding and water skiing so this year i should be able to get close up shots!

I have the S5500 and today when I tried using it to take pictures with the viewfinder everything is blurry, the pictures I take are fine and so is the LCD screen but I can hardly see through the viewfinder no matter what way I zoom? anyone any ideas what this is? or what I have done?

TIA

Have you actually adjusted the focusing on the viewfinder? there is a little black wheel next to the eyepiece - you can adjust it to suit your own vision ;) HTH

Oh well - you WONT be disappointed!!! I bought mine MAINLY for my Darren Hayes concerts!!

Got photos where I can count the pores on his skin!! :P (ok so I was front row! But I can achieve ALMOST as good from several rows back too!) I have some STUNNING shots! Would point you in the direction of my website at this point - cos had some brilliant Blue concert photos (the group not porn! ) on there as well as Darren ones - but I am in the process of updating the site and I think I only have one page of Darren photos on at the mo - and they are by no way the best - this years pics are FABULOUS! ;)

I leave my camera on auto for concerts - but make sure your ISO setting is as good as you can get it - better to use the flash if you can -although some venues don't allow this - or even photography so be careful! At Bristol venue i had to go plead my case for my camera as it apparently "looked too professional" Finally persuaded them to let me use it!

There was a japanese girl infront of me that had this teeny weeny slimline thing - but it took MUCH better photos than mine did!!!

Good luck - and enjoy the concert!

I haven't had this trouble with mine yet (S9500), but i think the reset is in the menu, just flick through all the menu options and reset will be there somewhere. I hope i never have this problem, at the moment it stays on auto:)

I am sure someone with better knowledge will be able to point you in the right direction though:)

Ooh, hello! :D I've stumbled on this thread while looking for something *entirely* different!

Right, Heather? The easiest way to get a good shot of wee Lucy with a blurry background is to take her outside on a bright (but not too sunny day), sit her in front of some pretty greenery or an interesting background and set your camera to portrait. You've a 5500 like me, haven't you? That's what the portrait setting is for.....getting blurry backgrounds. I've just whisked Hol outside for a demo. She's not happy but you get the picture. Ooh, a pun! :P

The first one's on auto, second is portrait. I've taken *much* better examples but for demo purposes they'll have to do!

princessmowgli
29-06-2006, 08:55 PM
Found the reset in the menu.
Took lots of pics at TT. As I was in the 3rd row  , bright lights etc I tended to take the pics on the auto setting as they seemed sharper. Forgot about the button for taking lots of quick pics in succession but none the less I'm dead chuffed with my 5600.
Now I need to learn how to add pics to posts etc.

OK I have a problem. My pics are on the pc in a folder BUT I can't cut & paste them. The cut option is available but when I want to paste it's not highlighted. I think I must have either missed a part of the installation OR I must need another programme which I've not got...I am stumped & really haven't the fogiest what to do.

My old camera used eezie touch/shuffle but not sure about the 5600. Any pointers anyone.

Sonia

TraceyJ

Can you open them in a different programme - ie - use windows picture and fax viewer - this is how I view my photos - from there you can save the photo again into a new folder and make sure it is a jpeg file. Then you need to use a photo editing programme to alter them - I use Serif;)

Dont know if this helps - I have never installed the fuji programme - i know a few others had trouble using it and we werent any help on here cos we hadnt ever installed the fuji stuff! lol

Something is def amiss as my images are jpeg but when I try to upload them to photobucket I get an error report saying it's not an allowed image type!!!!

I really don't know what else to do, my old camera was so much easier but I must persevere.

with my S5600 I connect with USB and turn the camera on. Then my cameral shows as G: drive. I select all and cut and paste. I do this is my window software. I paste them into my documents/pictures file and don't usually have any problems with them.

Are you trying to upload directly from you camera or you folders on your pc. If you still have your photos on you camera you could delete the ones on your pc and try to reload them.

lesleyuk
06-07-2006, 11:39 PM
I was thinking about this on the way home. Do you have zone alarms or some other firewall. It may be that you need to shut that down before loading to photobucket. Or did you set the camera to RAW if you did you would need to convert them to jpgs with an additional peice of software.

princessmowgli
07-07-2006, 10:15 AM
Do you know what I should have never got this camera 'cos I can manage point & click & that's it. I'm prepared to read the manual so I'm not lazy but I'm fazed by all it's functions etc.

I did load them straight into a folder from the camera so will try that again. Also I do have zone alarm so that too might be the problem, though my last camera coped OK & that was a right old donkey of a digi cam! They are showing as jpeg so I need to go back to the drawing board.

Sonia

I have to shut down zone alarms to load my pictures to photobucket. Not just pictures from my S5600 but from my canon too.
Can you see them in the folder on you pc. If so its not a problem with your camera.

princessmowgli
07-07-2006, 11:11 AM
Yes I can see them on the pc in a folder. I was prompted to call the folder something so added 2 initials. These initials now appear in each pic eg 284385943tt89293843 so not sure if that interfered with anything.

Oh, I hope nobody minds if I join in on this thread. I bought an S5600 yesterday. Not had too much of a chance to play just yet and so far it's just been with the auto setting. Will go back to the beginning now and read through all the previous posts to see what I can learn.

I'm going to a firework display tonight so what would you suggest as the prefered camera mode/settings?

I'm after continuous shots & a fast shutter speed to get a chance of catching the sparks in all their glory.

Anti blur has a fast shutter & can be combined with continuous but not sure if thats my best option.
I'm guessing using the flash would be pretty hopeless anyway but TBH I'm not sure what can be combined with what on this camera for optimum results.

ANY advice & I posted here as lots of you may already have subbed to this thread so are more likely to read it rather than start a new thread, CHEEKY but true :D

Oh gosh, I need this thread, I have a s3500 at the moment which is brilliant except for indoors and in dim lighting conditions so I'm upgrading to the s9500, I really can't fault fuji for the price, I've been using my s3500 for a year now but I'm looking forward to more of the manual settings of the 9500.
