I'm trying to do something clever - and failing miserably!
Working in layers I'm trying to erase part of one photo to layer on top of a different photo - each time I try to open my photos in another layer it opens them as another file completely. Am going round in circles here - will someone take pity and explain it to me? Preferably in words of one syllable :D

You need to open one photo, then the other. Find the photo you want to be on the top layer and go to Edit> Select all, then Edit> Copy. Click on the other photo and go to Edit> Paste. That should paste the photo as another layer on top of the other photo.
Think of each layer as a piece of acetate one on top of the other. When you erase part of the top layer you should be able to see the second layer coming through underneath.

Thanks for replying -BUT it won't Select or Copy or Paste. select all isn't even in the Edit menu and the copy and paste section is all non-bright(??) i.e. can't click on it??

You haven't dragged it across on to a workspace I only know that because I went round and round for weeks before it clicked when I first got it.
Open a workspace 12x12 background transparent is what I work with open your photos then go to window>images>tile or cascade (personal choice) click on your photo and drag it on top of the blank page you should see a black box around the blank page let go of the mouse and then just resize it and do what you wanted.
Hope that helps

Hi Jaine.
Isn't my team leader, Crystal, a total sweetie? She started me digi scrapping ... so watch out, she makes it infectious!!!!!
You can add the elements in the same way as you 'dragged across' the photos ... if there is more than one on the bit you load, 'lasso' it, select the 'move' button and drag it across onto your page. Does that make any sense?
