CJ info! So I guess you'll need to know what a CIRCLE JOURNAL is all about before deciding this is something for you! Have a look at these links which will give you an idea of what is involved and how you go about it.

Hi Everybody
I'm the latest addition. Looking forward to it, just need to think of a theme now. I might keep it simple and just go with 'colours'. Has anyone else decided yet?

hello!
Didn't come & chat as was no-one else here!! Can't wait for this to start....nearly there now :)

Haven't really thought of theme - will we all have to do something similar or is it going to be an 'any theme' circle?

Jackie P
20-04-2006, 07:09 PM
Hello,

I didn't realise we could chat in here, you can tell I'm new to all this. Can't wait for it to start but I am rather scared but looking forward to the challenge.

I've had a couple of ideas for what to do, but I'm not really set on anything at the moment, but I guess I will need to decide soon as it looks like we'll be ready to start.

Are you taking part in the cyber crop this weekend? I don't think I will be this time, my DH is going to need the PC on Saturday and then on Sunday he is working so I will be minding my DD. Shame though but I plan to do some of the classes afterwards.

Hi Everyone!! I'm the latest recruit :) Am really looking forward to doing this but am a bit nervous at the same time.
Have signed up for the cyber crop... not sure what I've let myself in for :D and am almost prepared!!
Think I'll probably just concentrate on the classes rather than the challenges as I'm still a bit on the slow side when it comes to los:)
Speak to you all soon

I love the name Rias Rebels. I'm not sure on a theme though, the only ones I can come up with at the moment are

Inspirations (i.e. what inspires you personally)
Favourite recipes (bit sad but I'm trying to broaden my cooking skills and thought this would be a good way of getting a selection of favourites)

I'm sure everyone else can come up with something better than I can, but I happy to give anything a go.

hello!
Not really sure how this works - are we all meant to have similar themes, or all do our own one?
My ideas so far are natural beauty, or i am inspired by which obviously aren't very original lol!!
Can't come up with a name yet though....

Ria979902
21-04-2006, 02:38 PM
You all come up with your own themes, so you get to do a dlo in everyones cj on their chosen theme as they get passed round to you:)
I was in a cj wjere someone did favourite recipes and I copied them all out to try as there were some fantastic recipes in there:)

Think I'm probably going to go for 'natural beauty' as a theme if that's ok with everyone. I thought I might start making my journal ready as I'm hoping to move house in a couple of weeks so could get a little hectic, especially as I've just had my second baby a couple of weeks ago!!

Does it need to be any specific size, or are we free to choose for ourselves?

Ria979902
22-04-2006, 03:46 PM
you're free to choose the size although when deciding bear in mind postage costs:) 8x8 would be the maximum size really.HTH

Hi all, didn't realise this was going here. I've been humming and haing about this but have decided that I'm going to do 'Techniques' as in favourite scrapping technique. Demo/describe your fave technique or a new one that you fancy trying out. The cc has shown me loads of new things this weekend so I'm sure that there's plenty of scope there- hope so anyway.

Hi, I'm definately going to do Inspirations (as in what inspires you). I'm loving the ideas everyone else has come up with and I can't wait to start. I must now think about making my Journal as I know the start date will creep up on us.

Maria, Are sarabooks okay to use, I was thinking about using a round one?

Debbie, I think you're very brave, starting this, moving house and only just had your second baby. I only feel ready to cope with this now and my DD is 1 in less than 2 weeks!!

Best of luck everyone, can't wait for this to start now.

liz x

ally16
29-04-2006, 06:55 PM
No the themes dont have to relate to one another, you choose your own then everyone does a page in your book on your theme and you get to do lots of different pages on everyone elses themes. I think that keeps it more interesting :) Dont be afraid to ask questions, no matter how simple they seem :)

Morning Ladies - just got the OK to join your cj group!
Has anyone got a theme yet? I'm thinking of 'quotations' - would that be OK? I'm assuming we all have to have different themes?
Sorry too many questions for a first post!
Anyway - Hi!!!!!

ally16
03-05-2006, 11:15 AM
Hi jilly yes you can all have different themes though it wouldnt matter too much if a couple were the same. It's your book, you decide what you'd like. Quotations sounds good as a theme :) The next thing to think about I suppose is the cj itself - what size book will you use, are you going to make it yourself or buy it? I've seen them all shapes and sizes, just recently did an entry in a coffee filter one, it was fab!

lilllizylu2
03-05-2006, 11:37 AM
Hi there how fab, half way there and we can start i am so excited i really enjoy doing mini books, did my 1st proper lo yesterday ( not a book)and it was ok tried the weekly challenge!

My theme is going to be: 'I BELIEVE IN.......'

e.g:Love at first sight
Fairies
Ghosts
Angels
or could be a religious aspect! Anything really!

Quotations sounds good to me have a few ideas whirling around in my head!

Jilly
03-05-2006, 03:21 PM
Are most peeps going for 6x6 then? Never done anyting that small - sounds tiny after 12x12!!!

ally16
03-05-2006, 03:36 PM
6 x 6 is a fairly standard size for cj's I think. The biggest I've done is 8 x 8 you really have to think about how heavy they get and postage costs etc. It is quite good fun doing tiny LO's  for a while there I was doing more cj entries than LO's.

Hi Peeps :)

Just checking in to say hi now I've had confirmation from Ally (thanks Ally) :D

I'm a complete newbie to this  but I'll have a read of all the info and hopefully be alright. A bit scared though!!!

I love all your themes, I haven't thought of anything yet - gulp.

Anyway, looking forward to chatting to you all :D

ally16
04-05-2006, 01:35 PM
I answer to jilly's questions I would say we would have 4 weeks between setting up our cj thread when there are ten of you and the first posting date. This is to allow time for everyone to sort out their themes, buy or make a journal and decorate it. You also need to do an introduction page, introducing yourself and your cj theme and stating any preferences (acid and lignin free for example). Then you need to decide what kind of sign in page you want. A lot of people use tags for each person to sign and decorate! Finally it is usual for you to do the first double page LO in your own book, if nothing else it gives those following a good idea of the kind of thing you're looking for.
Liz you need enough pages for everyone to do a double LO plus your intro page and any sign in pages you need. Sometimes it's best to put in a few extra just incase :D
Dont worry Di you have plenty of time to think of a theme :)

Jilly
04-05-2006, 02:02 PM

Hi, everyone. Just checking in. Only 4 more needed -wow I'd best get thinking of a theme!!! I have no idea at the moment...... On the book to use front, does it have to be a standard size like 8x8 or 6 x 6??? I picked up a hard backed sprial bound book the other day - its about A5 size - would that be any good?? I liked it because it had black pages (with little motif) but felt drawn to it!!! Ummmm lots to think about... Love the themes you are coming up with (feel a bit under pressure now!!)

Hello everyone!!

I am really looking forward to this. You all seem to know what you are doing?! and preparing for it already! Gosh - I'm not sure where to start!

I guess the first thing would be to buy a journal.......does it need to be a certain size or can we go with whatever we fancy?!

Look forward to getting to know you all better.........:)

Goodnight for now............

bertbaby

I asked that too!! I got an A5 size sprial bound book cheap in Wilkinson and I plan to use that!!! I liked it because it had black pages but you probably wont see them anyway!!! But I just feel the urge to buy it so I reckon I'll use that!!

Hi Caroline
Ally has said we can use a ready made book of some sort or make our own - and anything around the 6x6 size is OK...............think its pretty much upto what you want/can get!!

ally16
05-05-2006, 12:27 PM
Getting exciting now girls :D

Caroline the biggest I'd go with would be 8 x 8. If you are thinking of buying one the pink pig books are good and some of the sponsors sell them.

Anyone have any ideas for the name of the cj group?

bertbaby

Now I had better check out these pink pig books just in case I need to get one!!! May be I can use my other book for something else!!!! LOL

Afternoon all, woo only two more peeps needed... :)

Think A5 is fine, it's not any bigger than 6 x 8 which shouldn't cost much more to post than a 6 x 6, hth.

Hmmm a name; maybe Ally's Angels - can't think of anymore at the mo'

I am so looking forward to doing this CJ. Going to go into the town centre today to have a good look around for a suitable book. If I can't find one I might consider making one....... .........

Morning All

Liz, I've bought an A5 book too with thick black pages. I'll probably get one of the pink pig ones if I do another cj though because they're a bit cheaper.

I think the one I've got will be okay though, I've taken some of the pages out but I've left a few extras in there in case they're are needed - is that what we're mean't to do?

Ally's Angels is fine with me :) I'm useless at thinking up names!

Have a good day, looking forward to getting 2 more to join.

Hello!!

Went shopping today and managed to find a lovely 6x6 book from my local Art Supplier. Its got 40 pages of 160gm black paper and a lovely sturdy spiral spine.

I did think that I would leave all the pages in and then if mistakes are made there are plenty of spare sheets. When I do get it back I may have some sheets left in which to finish the book off by adding a few finishing touches. We'll see! ;) I can't wait! :)

Morning everyone :D I'm back! It looks like, (subject to some info I'm waiting for) we may have a full cj group. I should be able to let you all know later then we can get our thread started. Just a thought, what posting schedule shall we have? I've done 2 week, 3 week and even monthly before. It might be an idea to go with three weeks, that gives loads of time in case of any hold ups in the mail. Let me know what you think.

Jilly it was lovely meeting you at Bonanza I had a fab time and met loads of UKS'ers. It was good putting faces to names.

Primary 5 - so aged 9- 10, I'm taking 75 away - but they're brilliant kids so I don't mind it at all.

I guess once we have our own thread Ally will pull things together and finalise who's doing what and give us posting dates.

To make mine like a bar of chocolate it won't be a square journal but will probably end up being something like 6" x 8" - I hope that's ok with everyone?

the sarabook i went for is 5 x 5, it has a hard cover and 12 pages - all predrilled with 3 holes so its completely alterable!!! the holes mean you tie it together with whatever takes your fancy - i bought mine from scrapfaries, i'll find the address for you!! but the come in different sizes you can get circular or rectangler and their about £4-£5, made by HOTP

I'm going to have a proper look tonight when I have a bit more time. I am wondering whether to go for fairies and angels as my theme of flowers/garden sort of theme. Oh god I just thought of another one...the colour pink!!!! Ohhh I am going to have a serious think now. I know tinky likes pink too lol. What about you Rachel do you like pink? Pink is cool. Im going to look at the books now as you may have all changed my mind;) Mine is going to be a beach/summer theme. Ive done cross stitch and loved it and I do drawing and card making and make fimo models and anything to do with crafts and I love drawing dragons

Hiya, just logged on to look at those sarahbooks, but thought I'd check out this thread first:D I love dragons...if you can draw them maybe I will change my theme to mythical:D well...that would include fairies and angels wouldn't it? lol. A pink lover too, oh goody this is getting better by the minute:D Beach/summer theme sounds great and relatively easy for us 'haven't got a clue' type people (me!!). I brought some fimo in pink and purple a couple of weeks ago, thought I'd make some scrapbook embellishments, I made some gorgeous loopy flowers for my dd's pages...until I baked them...I don't hink you are supposed to use a fan oven:wacko: mine came out light brown (pink bits) dark brown (purple bits) along with alot of smoke!!! I will have another go soon as its great stuff, shame I can't air dry it though. Luckily I have a double oven range thingy so next time I will use the normal oven not the fan!!!

I cook my Fimo in a fan oven but only on 130 fro 30 minutes, you have to be careful as sometimes it can go a bit crispy:lol:  Ive made many a bear thats gone wrong

A mythical book that would be fab with dragons and wizards and castles ooooooooohhh how exciting I cant wait.

I dont know whether to buy a sara book now:( :( :( :(

I can't find any of those sarabooks online...have you??
Tink (leanne) told me she got hers from scrappyfairy but I can't find them;) Chelsea flower show...damn forgot that was on...I love that, I'm upstairs in my loft craft room:rolleyes: It took me ages to go to sleep last night cos I was trying to work out in my mind what I wanted on my cj cover!!! Woke up when dh got up today at 5am and started to think about it again and couldn't get back to sleep so got up at 6am:wacko: Don't normally get up til 7am. Really tired today, so going to bed earlyish. I have to walk 3.5 miles to take dd to nursery and back three times a week and its draining me lol too old for that distance!Edited to say: I have found the books, I misread her pm its says scrapfairy, cheap too.

I think I will order two, one would be good for my fairy and angel atc's :D I am assuming you can add lots of new pages if you want? Would 12 pages that come with them be enough for a cj or would we need to add a few more? I was thinking of having pink and purple pages:rolleyes: I will have to have a better think on that one though as it might restrict what you do in it colour wise...Oh unless I specify ebverything to be pink or purple lmao:D I am going to order my books later today or tomorrow (payday for dh tomorrow lol).

Would 12 pages that come with them be enough for a cj or would we need to add a few more?

For the intro page and sign in page I usually use the inside front and back cover as well as the opposite page to make it a double, and as there are 10 to a group....12 pages should be enough.

SharonK
23-05-2006, 01:39 PM
Thanks for that caz:) But what would happen if us newbies cocked a page up
godforbid:wacko: Could we put say18 pages in it to allow for any mistakes? would a few more pages make alot of difference to the postage costs? I think I may be looking for problems after just re-reading my post!!

Jilly

Sharon - I'm sticking my nose into your group here - the cj's I have seen at our crop group, people measure the page size and do their LO on a piece of paper or card the right size and don't stick it into the journal itself until its finished! That way any 'cock-ups' can be sorted before the entry is finished!! HTH

 Oh god...of course, please just ignore me I am having a truly terrible day here, with one of my 'brats' Now I think about it its no different to scrapbooking a LO. When an idiot like me posts questions like that it must be a bit worrying for the others in my cj:lol: Rachel and Tink I promise I will have my head in gear by the time we start this cj. Jilly thanks for putting me straight on thisB) (can I delete that post lol)

Oh thats ok then if I'm not the first to ask it and Tinks' not worried:rolleyes: lol. DD wet the bed last night, didn't tell me til we're up and about and she'd made her bed. Quilt, pillow, duvet, sheets all washed now and back on bed. Wet again up the town whilst shopping for scrapbook stuff:wacko: Spilt a huge glass of chocolate milkshake over table, wouldn't eat her lunch she asked for;) I discovered she had been to fridge and had been drinking crusha undiluted choc milkshake straight from bottle neat!! This is a child that has been dry for over a year!! Don't know whats got into her, shes the beast from hell today...in bed now and playing the little darling while daddy reads the story....grrrrr<_< Thank god its nursery tomorrow afternoon:D Feel a bit better now lol, thanks for listening.

Hi Rachel, yes it is still just us three, the list is on page 11 of this thread if you want to check if anybody new joins:D Mind you I expect Ally will update us if there is any new members joining us. I have just spent the best part of an hr trying to get past the checkout on scrappyfairy online shop to buy the sarabooks but it is not having any of it<_< It won't let me proceed past checkout to pay:wacko: I am ordering two of these books, one for the cj and one for my atc's which will have to be made much bigger for my collection:) On the other hand I might stumble across something else for my atc's and use the book for something different!! I am going to try again to get through the checkout in the minute. I know what you mean about 9 going on 18!! I also have a DS who is 11 and going to secondary school is Sept, DD is aged 4 going to primary school also in Sept....peace and quiet, peace and quiet for me........Going to miss her though:wub:
Anyway I will post again later to let you know if I managed to order them or not:rolleyes: BTW its the 6x6 I am getting in case you are interested.

Hi...back at last, internet problems, internet shops not letting methrough checkout...the day gets worse lol. Right I could only get one book from scrappyfairy, thats the reason it wouldn't let me pay for them lol there was only one in stock!! I found a shop with loads so I went to order two at £3.95 each with £2.75 p&p. Well that was 75p more than p&p than scrapfairy but when I got to the checkout it added on vat as well:blink: I decided the books weren't worth nearly £11 when they started off at £3.95!! I am going to have a look round this week and see if I can find a 'real' shop that stocks them, I begrudge paying postage charges when I'm buying things (I;m poor anyway and it could be going on stash lol):P I too have a bit too many things on the go and have got so behind with the scrapping, I was really into it then I thought I'd have a go at these ATC's and now I keep going back to them...now the cj..I love it all though and am going to try and make some time for scrapbooking this weekend. I brought a sizzix and a sidekick after selling loads of stuff on ebay cos I wanted all these alphabets and whatsnot dies and now I can't affird the dies:wacko: Mum's brother lives in US and I was banking on parents going over there soon as they usually go over twice a year and getting them to bring me some back in their suitcase. Mum has just announced they are not going over this year!! Am I jinxed:blink: Sizzix still in box unused cos you don't even get a free die with it!! Sidekick cuts nice flowers, hearts, mini tag and stars though:rolleyes: (the free die you get with it)
Sharon
Edited to add...nothing else in shopping cart, didn't have anything that I wanted!!

Morning everyone, its a lovely sunny day here and its payday!! Hoping to buy a few 'little' bits today for my cj. Saw some great charms that I can just see looped onto my ribbons holding the cj together. I think I am going to go with the theme of mythical. That way fairies, angels, goblins, elves, dragons (Rachel can draw them lol) castles, wizards....oh can't wait. Does that theme sound alright to you tink? (rethink) course it does Tink (Tinkerbell) Are you still going with your theme of handbags? I wonder if I can ask my friends in the atc forum if they are interested...mmm thats an idea theres alot of newbies there. A lunch pail intrigues me too...so does a paint tin. Not yet, not yet, scrapbook, atc's, cj, dabbling in decoupe as well. Musn't spread myseld to thin lol:lol: With atc's you CANNOT do them wrong, its impossible. You just play around with bits of paper (collage) embellishments, whatever comes into your head, they are brill for using up all the little bits of leftovers too. To make my point my DD aged 4 made an atc that would trade if I put it on here, but I am keeping it lol. You have actually found that charm of tinkerbell? Thats quite hard to track down isn't it cos its new. I have seen the castle, faires, wizard in one of the threads where someone was looking for the tinkerbell charm I think it was. They are the ones I want to buy:D That paper sounds lush tink, I haven't even got that far yet...more into looking at pink ribbon and fairy charms lol. Mentioned this thread in atc's (hope I'm allowed to:ph34r: ) We'll have to wait and see if we get a response;)

It's still raining here. I havent done anymore to my book and I still need to look for the sarabooks. I have been running round like a headless chicken getting everything ready for a class tomorrow evening. Hi Rachel...raining? Absolutely pouring here and has been on and off all day. I got a lucky 30 mins I think, only got a few in before the heavens opened and DD and me ran indoors (trowel, compost, plant etc still where we left them lol)
I am in the loft room with the velux window and the rain is hitting it like bullets. I don't mind though cos its warm in here, kids in bed and DH playing on the other pc downstairs. Oh and got no nursery tomorrow so haven't got to go out in it:D Are you a teacher at a school or do you mean a student at night school? Be brilliant if you could do some drawing in my cj I'd love that. Today I also order DH doesn't know yet:ph34r: some silver charms for the ribbons. I got some fairies, a wizard, a castle, a dragon a witch on a broomstick (I think) and I'm sure there is another one but I can't remember what it is:wacko: Also brought some blossoms for the newbie swap I am taking part in. Only came to £7 with postage so not bad. Still only us three though isn't it? Come on peeps;)
