Morning :)

Am now on my husband side, researching his family tree - was given his grandfather's month/year of death by his mum and couldnt find him. Have just been informed that he actually died whilst on holiday in Bermuda - my questions is, will his death have been registered in the normal way or would it have been done differently? He died in April 1977, have searched both 1977 and 1978 BMD indexes and cant seem to find him?

Anyone any ideas please?

Suzy, deaths are normally registered in the country in which they take place; as a Registrar, I cannot registrar a death which has occurred outside of my district, so any England & Wales registrar can register only deaths occurring within their district. It would be usual for his death to have been registered in Bermuda, regardless of where the funeral took place; he may well have been brought back to this country for burial/cremation, but the death would almost certainly have been registered in Bermuda :) - hope that helps.

Thanks Jo, that explains why I cant find it! lol

Apparently he was brought back here and is buried in their family plot somewhere in Manchester.
